K-Cup Koffee?

  1. We’ve had Keurigs for about 4 years now. I use the plural because they’ve now replaced the unit (at no charge) *six* times.

When it works, its great. The coffee is decent, and you get it when you want it, in whatever flavor you want it.

It’s more expensive than brewing another pot, but less expensive than Starbucks, or Dunkin’ Donuts, or whatever. The price gap closes a bit for us when we take into account the amount of stale coffee that got thrown away after it had been sitting in the conventional coffee maker all day.

The last one that was swapped out we’d been descaling religiously every 3 months for a year. This one we’re going to run on bottled water and see if it does any better than the first six. As I said, so far the replacements have been free, but if that changes, I’ll probably kick the habit.

If you shop the k-cups aggressively, you can get into the 40-45 cent range. For a while, I had a deal with a local coffee distributor buying is expired stock for 22 cents a pod, but after a few cycles he improved is stock management enough to sell the stuff before it expired.

Enjoy the thing, but if money is tight you might be better off the old fashioned way.

  2. I got a Keurig Mini coffeemaker for my birthday this past Nov. I do sometimes get the K-cups but I also have a My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter, which means I can use my own coffee with my Keurig so I’m not buying as many K-cup coffees. As far as the K-cups, you can order from the Keurig website and I’ve also heard good things about Big Cat Coffees.

  3. I wish I had a strong opinion about coffee but I just buy whatever is cheap and test and brew accoringly. I have never in my 55 years paid for cute overpriced south american liquid cocaine and I dont plan to start anytime soon.
    But thats just me.
    crazy

  4. This aint related but I thought it would warm the hearts of most BMEWSERS here:

Dihanna McCullock says she is a fighter, and Thursday she proved it. Two men, one armed with a knife and one with a gun, attacked her. She always wears a gun on her hip for protection, and she says there is no doubt it saved her life. . . . McCullock carries ‘the Judge’ in a holster. It’s a pistol that shoots a shotgun shell as well as .45 caliber bullet. McCullock said the robber’s bullet just grazed her right arm. She fired back a shotgun blast at point blank range.

Are you sure you hit him? “Yes, I’m positive. I’m positive. I’m a good shooter. Definitely a good shooter. My husband taught me well.”

The two robbers took off running, dropping her wallet and the knife.

John McCullock says he taught his entire family to shoot, and he is proud of his wife. “If we got to fight, we got to fight. I’m glad that she did.”

SO DREW,Give us the lowdown on the TAURUS ‘Judge’.

  5. My parents bought one for Christmas and my father has one at work. It makes very good coffee because the water is at some pressure when it goes through the coffee. I’d recommend one of the aftermarket fill-your-own coffee pods. An ex had a Senseo, which is a similar sort, and after I found something that held regular coffee, it was pretty economical.

  6. I use my Grandmother’s old 12 cup Pyrex perculator and it still makes the best coffee. I get Dunkin Donuts coffee beans and grind them myself just before brewing.

I recently found a 8 cup Pyrex at a flea market for $5.00 and gave it to my cousin and her husband for their place in Nova Scotia.

  7. Rich - off topic as usual, eh?

    Here: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm

    My choice: M-4_Derringer.jpg

which is a loose physical paraphrase of “Hey baby, why be with a zee-ro when you can dance with a hee-ro?”

(free caulk to first person to ID that quote!)

besides, you answered your own question:
She fired back a shotgun blast at point blank range. ... Are you sure you hit him? “Yes, I’m positive.” ... The two robbers took off running.

Had she used the .45, she could of killed them both with the same bullet if they were lined up right.

  8. Have one of these machines myself, dont drink a lot of coffee, but when I do I like the single cup sizing so no waste in the pot.

But, the k-cups can be expensive. I got a set of the Kaps from http://www.my-kap.com/MYK/ for my unit. Love ‘em.

  9. No quote IDers? Ok. It’s a line from the disco scene in Earth Girls Are Easy. Newly de-furred alien Damon Wayans “oh my God, you’re like totally black!” quickly learns the smooth moves in a dance-off, while a baby faced Jim Carey -another alien- shows off interstellar oral abilities to get the last ice cube from the bottom of the glass. “I’m going home with him!!”

    Great scene. Fun flick.
