  1. The pendulum swings one way, and then the other.

    And then one way--too far--

    And then the other--

This is only a foretaste of things to come.

    oh oh

  2. Sadly Tann I fear you are correct, but we have been saying this for several years now and all we get is derision from the immigrant hugging lefties. In Britain the Conservatives are too frightened to even discuss immigration. All this does is play into the hands of extremists. What many people don’t understand about Italy is it is a country of two halves. all the industry is in the North, all of the poor people are in the South. The Northern League is a right wing party that has effectively allowed Berlusconi to take over power.

The Italians have a lot of problems they are within spitting distance of Albania apologies to anyone of Albanian descent but Albania is the rectum of Europe. There are tens of thousands of Albanians in Italy illegally. having had a great deal of experiance first hand with Albanians they are generally not people I would want in my back yard. There are tens of thousands of Romanian and other gypsies who are there legally but are universally despised by the population, added to that thousands of illegals attempt to get across the Mediterranean. It doesn’t bode well.

I don’t know if you caught it but there was a big outbreak of trouble in Spain yesterday between African immigrants and gypsies. With Europe’s economy becoming increasingly shaky you can see where it is heading. Italy isn’t helped by belonging to the curse of the Euro. They want to raise interest rates but they can’t as the European banks control this centrally.

In schools in Britain now they are abandoning teaching real history. Otherwise they might see parallels with the situation in Weimar Germany in the 1930’s. All they need now is a charismatic “leader” and we will be back to 1939 again.

  3. None of it surprises me one iota, Lyndon.

We may like it, or we may not, but “tribalthink” is based on something that cannot be cast out of any of us.  It comes from depths of the mind that are older than we are, depths beyond the reach of willpower or even conscious thought.  Those depths generate more than one kind of emotion, more than one kind of instinct, that is based on something beyond our own experiences.  We are born with it, all of us.  We can’t turn it off.  We can’t throw it away.  We can only keep it in check, if we can do that much.

Those who know how to invoke and harness “tribalthink” are very much aware of this; you need only look at their ways of doing their work.  A politician who tries to be too reasonable, or too goddamn academic, gets nowhere with such work.  The successful one is a demagogue who hammers away at the depths of your mind with simplistic invocations and imagery specificially designed to arouse it.  Call it visceral or hormonal if you want to; call it anything you like; but the successful demogogue knows what beast he is trying to whistle up.  And the beast is always there, waiting.....

    hmmm

  4. Well it’s just possible that the reason he’s unwilling to trash Mussolini is because Mussolini made the trains run on time.

Think about it for a minute. If a British politician ran on a platform of getting your money’s worth again out of your council taxes, caging up or shooting down the yobs, deporting the illegals and tightening up the borders, and showing no mercy at all to terrorists..... how popular would he be?

And how many people *would not care* what road he took to get such results?
