  1. On the whole, I liked the homourous portrait of Kenneth Clarke, and the Norman Rockwell-esque painting of Tony Benn. Bercow’s “young Moses the lawgiver” I find nearly offensive in its hubris, and his “family crest” with [bloody??] Islamic head chopper scimitars over the rainbow banner “All Are Equal” (or off with your head??) is effin gross, even with the clown-posse 4-way ladder tie (cf T. Pratchett, “Making Money").

The part that I detest about Diane Abbott’s portrait is that the artist has no talent! He has changed the contours and perspectives of her face, and taken away both her innate attractiveness and her look of intelligent gravitas. WORSE, he gave her flattened Elf Ears underneath the baby dreds that she never wears. Google her up: this is NOT what the woman looks like.

  2. So, did this twit insist the artist draw here like this?  If so, she went out of her way to make it look like she is straight out of the brush.  No clothes, and dredlocks, that she has NEVER worn.  If a white artist did this intentionally to a black person who expected a real life-like portrait, there would be cries of racism, as it would be assumed that the artist paints black people as he sees them, fresh off the boat from africa, ready for auction.

This is no different than blacks using the word “nigger”, but we can’t.  If it is racist, it’s racist no matter who does it.  This woman has achieved greatness by obtaining the position she has, yet wants her painting to make her look like a bush monkey.

    It’s disrespectful.

  3. My dislike of her, the liberal part aside, is what little I’ve heard on the radio when she’s on one of the panels.  It’s usually she who talks over others even after she’s had her long, long say. And her says are very long as a rule. Generally, the photos of her I’ve seen printed in the papers, and granted the papers I read are not usually going to work too hard to find a flattering one, are ones that look nothing like the one Drew posted and btw, I did Google her and yes, I did find better pictures as Drew did.  That said, what caught my eye was the portrait and the hair and my thinking is, it could not have been done and displayed , if the paper has it right, without her approval.  Which based on my hearing her on the Beeb, I’m ready to believe. I don’t doubt she is smart. Lots of ppl on the left are smart. I’d question the greatness part though.  Sure, she made her way somewhat on her own but, you can bet the pc band was playing for her.

  4. Now I don’t care who you are, that’s ugly.

  5. When said she achieved “greatness”, I was in no way saying she herself did this, but said this as an honor to the title she obtained.  Her position is one of greatness, but she herself is not and in my opinion, undeserving of it.  It was respect for the position, not her.
