  1. "We brief the President” CIA rep to Air Force intelligence under Adm. Turner.

“Well, then, who the hell’s going to tell him the truth?” My father, Deputy Director of Air Force Intelligence for Systems and Technology to the CIA rep.

We can look squarely at Turner, Zbiggie Brezinski and the Church Committee, among others, for the situation we find ourselves in. Incompetant or traitorous?

  2. How very true, Rickvid. Turner was responsible for destroying the HUMINT arm of the CIA which everyone now admits was the reason why we were caught off guard so badly by 9/11. I recall reading hundreds of articles right after 9/11 decrying the lack of “spooks on the ground” and and over-reliance on TECHINT and electronic surveillance from afar. One more black mark for Carter and the Donks who controlled the Senate in 1977 and who heartily endorsed Turner. BAH!

  3. So the opposition is really against a competent military leader.

  4. The whinners are against anything President Bush does and yes, I think that they are against any competent military leaders.

I am getting tired of all this garbage and sandbagging - I just hope that Nov proves (once again - remember 2000 and 2004) that the majority of citizens (who vote) do have functioning brain cells. We are at War - some situations change and some freedoms have to be reigned in in such times.

  5. As for military men running civilian agencies, both Gen. George Marshall and Gen. Colin Powell served as Secretary of State.

Thinking back, the predecessor to the CIA, the OSS, was run by Gen. William Donovan, an FDR appointee.

He was succeeded by a number of military men over the years:
    Rear Adm. Sidney Souers, USNR
Lt. Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg, USA
Rear Adm. Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter, USN
    Gen. Walter Bedell Smith, USA
Vice Adm. William Raborn, USN (Ret.)
    Adm. Stansfield Turner, USN (Ret.)
That’s about half the men who’ve ever held the job.

The Left’s position is a strawman to avoid admitting that they hate Bush so much and so blindly that they would oppose a cure for cancer if they thought Bush would get any credit for it.
