“...he killed the American illusion that “it couldn’t happen here”. And he unleashed an argument...”
Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case. The left has spoken and all but shut down debate. Krauthammer is pretty well alone in the mainstream media. The rest of the papers and television news have pretty much gone on to the next soundbite. For the portion of the country that gets their news from those sources, Hassan is in the past already with no debate being had at all. He was a nutter. End of story. Heads back in the sand, everyone, nothing to see here.
Once Congress gets around to hearings on the incident, it may reignite a bit of discussion, but overall, I have no doubt that the result will be the same. A short period of tongue clucking, a lambasting of the military and a dismissal of Hassan as a lone gunman with mental problems. There will be no deeper discussion held as the article above rightly states there should be.
It would be better if we enforced Britain’s cultural values on immigrant communities, rather than allowing them to dictate government policy.
Wonder how long it took for them to figure that one out?
I think a lot of the problem lies in lack of distinction between those cultural values chosen by religious preference, etc., and those cultural values inherent in the social contract embodied in law. The fuzziness of that line is regularly abused by all sides.
Wonder how long it took for them to figure that one out?
Harley ...The Govt. here still hasn’t figured it out. And sad to say I don’t hear this from Cons either.
BTW ... Janet Daley is an American, married to a Brit and lived here many, many years.
