3. The man is right.  Look at the Palestinian insurgency against the King of Jordan or against Hafez al-Assad of Syria.  In each case they simply killed between 20 and 25 thousand Palis and haven’t had trouble with them since.  The Palis called it Black September. 

   There are certain varieties of murderous insanity where the only way to stop it is with extermination.  It’s the most basic imperative of all:  survive.

4. More history from Syria.  Hafez al-Assad vs Islamists back in the early 80’s.  I pulled this from Wikipedia.

   The final showdown, the Hama massacre, took place in February 1982[96] when the government crushed the uprising.[97] Helicopter gunships, bulldozers and artillery bombardment razed the city, killing thousands of people.[97]
