I got this message from one of my church leaders:
We need three brethren to go help stock the Bishop’s storehouse in Columbus this Sat - we need to leave here about 7:45 so we can be there at 9-noon. I can drive, please contact me if you can assist.
Having done this before, I’m wondering how many ‘gaps’ we are not observing?
The ‘gaps’ identified by the health and safety executive included ‘inproper (sic) use of cleaning materials’ and storing heavy objects too high up on shelves.
I mean really… how ‘high’ is ‘too high’? Define ‘inproper (sic) use of cleaning materials? Were they not used for cleaning? How? In what way?
Mind you, we are a volunteer church association. The Bishop’s storehouse is just that; a warehouse of food and clothing either donated, bought through tithes and offerings, or actually grown (we have a Bishop’s farm), by Church members for distribution to needy members or non-members. I’m thinking that these ‘health and safety executives’, who’ve probably never grown a tomato plant, have no idea of what actual charity entails.
Just a guess.
Funny isn’t it? How it’s always people who are divorced from the land (growing, herding, butchering) that end up trying to tell us how to live. They can’t grow a tomato plant in a container, they’ve no idea of how to raise chickens, either for meat or eggs; and they think steak comes in shrink-wrapped styrofoam packages.
If that isn’t bad enough, then they think that people can’t decide what is ‘too high’ for them to handle. Honest, I’ll tell you if I can’t handle it and ask for help. I do it at work when necessary. A mail package might be within weight guidelines, but it’s too bulky or unwieldy for me to handle sans help. Guess what? I ask for help.
I’m not stupid. I know, the ‘health and safety executives’ assume I’m too stupid.
Well, ditto. I assume they’re stupid. Willfully stupid. I refuse to ever help them in an emergency.
My Christopher, you’ve been very chatty lately.Welcome back to the Noise,,,,,,,,
My chattiness is in an inverse relation to vodka consumed.
Translation: I’m sober.
