  1. I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing that.  Yuk!

I think I’ll send this to all of friends.

  4. Hmmm, didn’t the nazis use human skin (with tattoos) for lampshades, etc… Macabre, indeed. Right out there with “long pork”...sick barf

  5. Could this be the origin of the expression “tan your hide” question

Posted by StinKerr    United States   01/11/2006  at  12:40 PM

  6. I don’t think so, Stin.  It probably came from the process of tanning hides to make leather....

  7. Then there’s the lines out of Rolf Harris’ “Tie Me Kangaroo Down”, from around 1963(?)

Tan me hide, when I’m dead, Fred, tan me hide when I’m dead.
So we tanned his hide, when he died, Clyde, and that’s it hangin’ on the shed

    Rat Pat, CRS to remember…

“May all your chooks turn into emus, and kick your dunny down”

  8. Well, as the article shows, it wasn’t always bovine or (pardon me, pig ) porcine hides being tanned. grin

  9. Ethics and morality have changed a lot.  From the apologetic book binder with a rich client to our modern concepts of criminality and perversion.  I think this is one of the things that has improved with age.

  12. Of course not, Oink. We’re rigged for high pressure depths. Jacques Cousteau could only dream of reaching the depths that we are capable of reaching here.

OCM, I think that a skin graft requires the same matching techniques as do other organs. (The skin is your body’s largest organ, Long Dong Silver not withstanding.) Gotta get a good match to have good results. It’s more than just blood type, I fear.

  13. Yeah, as a temporary measure to allow the injury site to heal and regrow close enough would be good enough. I understand that there is some sort of “artificial skin” for just that purpose.

  14. It just occured to me that library fines might have been stiffer and librarians tougher in the old days.

  15. Back in the 80’s they used pig skin (no joke) for a temporary patch on serious burns.  I declined to be one the donor list.
