  1. and it’s gone up another 35c since this chart. This is getting ridiculous, fast.

  2. Go for some decent protection. You can always get some extra steel tubing welded over the bumpers. I’ve been trying to balance the two factors for years.

Money won’t be doing you much good the next time some drunk idiot nails you and you’re in a 50mpg beer can.

    But you knew that.

  3. Go for the “protection"… A big V8 diesel gets far better MPG than a gas burner, even at the somewhat higher diesel prices, $PM is less than gas.  I currently have a 1995 F150 with about 125K on it, and really showing its age, and I’m considering getting in on teh current ford “family specials” before it ends in early september. One will never catch me driving or riding in some tiny tinny Asian death-trap-mobile.  Masshole drivers are just too nutty, I believe in the old adage of “drive defensively, drive a tank”.
I live in the neighboring state, but have to drive thru fatboy-kennedy-land every day back and forth to work (so I Can join this merry group on company time) LOL

LC RP flag  uk_flag (gas costs a lot more over there)

  4. Wow what a bargain, here in the UK we pay £.9 per litre (about $6.50 per US Gal) thats what you get for voting liberal/left (not me, just the rest of the muppets here)

  5. Notice how cheap the gas is in TEXAS.  Coincidence?  I think not!

  6. Hey, we’re getting better(?) payoffs benefits here in Ohio, I’d say. I hadn’t realized that we were being paid off. I would appreciate more of a payoff though. ME, ME, ME… doggiestyle everybody else. LOL

  7. We used to get dishes from the Fleet Wing station too. I don’t recall the details but you might have gotten an entire place setting with a fill up. I think Mom still has some of them left from 1957.

You probably remember that most service stations were truly service stations complete with at least one mechanic. Some were better than others, of course, but they were there.

I’d guess that the differences are state and local taxes. Look at it with a red/blue state aspect and it seems to confirm that opinion.

  8. I watch the price of gas at my local station.........but it doesn’t really bother me that much as a tank lasts me about 2-3 weeks - don’t drive too many miles per week - have a 1998 Cady & just passed 30,000 miles........Car’s paid for, so what the hell..........

  9. I paid 2.38/gallon for diesel near Wasilla, AK which is about the same price as mid-range regular.  My 1-ton ford diesel is about 18 mpg in the summer but when the switch the the winter-grade it will drop to about 15...grrrrrrr. I miss my diesel rabbit!  50 mpg but I was on the Las Vegas Air Qualitiy most wanted list. When you get passed by a Winnebago on a hill, the drivers of which were flipping me off, it is hard on the make ego.

StinKerr: I think that you are on to something. It would be interesting to “normalize” fuel prices to a taxless basis. Fuel taxes are definately hidden.
