It isn’t what she is doing that has me concerned. It is the look on that cats face that is bothering me.
Poor Tom. If they are going to neuter him, they really ought to put him under, for the sake of being humane.
And why should anyone hate a kitty cat? I have seen dozens of tomcats in my life, and I think I am fairly familiar with their average behavior. The average Tom expects the household to be run according to his book, and no other. He expects to be fed and watered according to his schedule, and no other. He always takes over the most comfortable chair and bedplace. If he had his way, he’d lounge around all day and stay out wenching all night.
Let’s face it, guys, are many of us really any different?
Tannenberg - We’re not any different in our fantasie.... ahhh, wants, but probably differ somewhat in reality. Fact is, dogs have masters, cats have staff, and I empty the litter box.
I’m with you Skipper. Cats are supercillious buggers and the damage domestic cats do to wild bird populations in Britain is scandalous. Give me a mutt any day.
OCM - I live closer to the Skip than Barb does - we are both in St. Louis...........but I’m not about to leave kitty poop on his doortstep...........
Had both my cats to the vet this past week for checkups, immunizations, lab work, etc., cost me $300 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!............Pixie’s (she’s 9 years old) labs were all normal...........BigCat (15years old) has lost 3 pounds since September & we don’t know why - his labs were normal except for an elevated creatinine (but not more elevated since 6 months ago)...............He has now lost 6 pounds in the last 6 months - this is a concern to my vet............I now have to monitor his feeding habits...............I will take him in again in February ..............if he loses more weight we will have to investigate further..........? thyroid ? diabetes ..........
Heard from the vet - he doesn’t think it’s diabetes nor a thyroid problem...........BigCat’s teeth are fine except that he has to have them cleaned once a year............I will monitor his feeding habits - hard to do as he & Pixie eat their dry cat food (a mix of weight loss & kidney disease food) from one bowl in the morning & they each eat from separate bowls in the eve - a tablespoon of moist food in the eve - they like their moist food in the evening..........The only thing I have noticed is that BigCat’s urine is very odorous, but his urinalysis was normal..........will monitor his habits............
Dottie-
Maybe your cat’s strong urine could be due to dehydration, or getting a hold of asparagus. Has he been drinking enough water lately.
U2 - BigCat seems to be drinking enough water -not a chance of getting any asparagus........
OCM - you may be right that it is just a sign of aging..........will monitor his eating & drinking habits............and probaly let him grow old gracefully.........My vet treats only cats & seems to know what he is talking about - have been with this vet for many years..............so we will do the labs every 6 months & observe his weight...........Haven’t seen any signs of “dementia”.............
