Fall Colours: Letters From Littleton

 

1. One the wife’s favorite poems Drew. And she can still recite much of it.

   Chawton House. I’ve been on the grounds but not inside. Need appointment for that.
   I have a bunch I’m collecting on it.
   Did I ever send you info re. one of the founders of CISCO SYSTEMS? Her name is Sandy Lerner.
   She pretty much single handedly saved that building and its treasures and added to it.
   Chawton House holds manuscripts written by women as far back as 1400s. You can make appointments to study same.

2. PS:  Running Horse Pub is just around the corner and up the road from us. Not even a mile I don’t think. Haven’t been there in awhile. But yes, it is the local for this village. On a nice summer evening it can be walked but I’m not much for uphill walking anymore.

   Been raining here last two days. Heavy most times.

4. That is what I miss most about Germany - the little local pubs/taverns (English) and gasthaus (german) - great food, the hub of the community and just a pleasant time. Here it’s franchise city and if you don’t go early - you sit around for hours. Or like yesterday - my son had a Drs appointment - so we did a quick lunch and by evening we were both feeling bad. Not fun at all. Certainly not worth the money spent either.

   I also enjoyed the respect for the past - the Pop culture-ists are going to destroy any past we have here in America - in the name of themselves. Like they are any more important or great than anyone else.

   Beautiful simply beautiful.
