Do Gun Sales Reflect National Mood?

  1. It’s a gun. We’re Americans. We can have as many as we frickkin want.

Exactly. Though as practical matter, I do try to buy firearms that use the same common ammo. 12-gauge, .38, and .22.

Just trying to keep things simple. I know if I reach for any revolver I need .38. Shotgun, I need 12-gauge. Rifle is a little tricky, .22 most of the time. I don’t rely on that for home defense.

Though I do have great grandpa’s Mauser from WWI. Hard to find decent ammo though.

  2. What, 7x57 or 8x57? Easy as pie. If it’s an 8x57 make sure it’s got the .323 barrel and is marked JS, and if it is Pritzi Partisan makes all the ammo you’ll ever want. Or Sellor & Belloit. Or Dynamit Nobel. Or RWS. Or ...  ... just making the point that EUropean companies make lots of ammo for European calibers.

  6. the one rifle to have if you could have only one

Umm, let’s see there is defense - that’s one

There is animal hunting/stocking the freezer - that’s another

    and

There is damn the world is falling apart, I need to be able to defend me & mine - that’s another

And that is just the rifles - we aren’t talking about the handguns. Plus we are talking about just my guns - hubby’s are a whole different thing.

Wonder if this isn’t directed to those who are on the line about owning a gun - kinda of pull ‘em in? Who knows in this Cult of Personality regime - everything is sinking to the lowest common denominator (which is utter vapid stupidity).

Oh well - those figures are going to go down as people struggle more and more to just survive - but that is I believe intentional with this regime.

  7. I will give Ruger credit; they have built a fine little rifle that should meet the needs of just about everyone. It’s a sturdy little bolt gun with a Mauser style controlled round feed, a weather proof laminated wood stock, stock spacers for adjustable length of pull, a big fat recoil pad for the sensitive folks, and a minimal length barrel for easy handling. Then they hung a military standard M14 magazine on it (or so it appears), chambered it for a military cartridge (.308 aka 7.62 NATO), and put robust military style open sites on the gun. Lastly they hung a rail on the forend so you can mount a long eye relief scope on it if you want. So it is as close to a modern bolt action battle rifle as you’re going to find in the 21st century, and short enough to make the Close Quarters folks happy. And the .308 can be loaded down for small game, or loaded up to handle game as big as elk at moderate ranges. The rifle ships with a 10 round magazine. If they also sell a 4 round mag they’ve got the hunting rules covered for all states, and if the rifle just happens to take M14 mags (20 rounds) they’ve got the militia angle covered.

Had they used a 22” barrel of heavier design and a full length stock, what they built would be a modern incarnation of a SMLE and thus look “too military”. And be too heavy for the lazy hunters who demand very light rifles.

So Wardmama is probably correct; this is a Universal Rifle that could appeal to the folks who don’t yet own one. I just don’t like their slogan, but it is better than a “my first rifle” campaign, which conjures up both images of boy’s toy guns and a perception of low quality. What other choice did they have, something like a takeoff on Tolkien “one gun to do it all, one gun to find them”?

  8. Want a great gun campaign - How about Make My Day - or - I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire six shots or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Of course I know that the gun manufacturers don’t really want to go to the defense against people aspect - knowing it will get the Brady Bunch panties into a knot. And the new lying studies about how dangerous we gun owners/conceal carry people are.
