I follow weather like a kid with comic books but Holy ^%$.....that is one hell of a tornado. It had to be a class 5. I wish the entire town a fast recovery and am saddened by the losses.
Most kids get snow days to excuse themselves from school. In Plainview, Texas I got five tornado days. They are not much fun.
God help those folks in Kansas.
I’ll bet there is very little looting, unlike New Orleans.
I’ll bet there is very little looting, unlike New Orleans.
Seeing as how there’s very little left to loot…
Another blog said it looked very much like a couple cities in Japan, circa spring 1945. After seeing this photo, I’m inclined to agree. Dayum.
Sorry, make that August ‘45. Forgot my nuclear history.
My gosh!! How do you rebuild that? It looks like it’s going to be a complete tear down and start building new.
I’ve yet to see one person on the news yelling “Where’s FEMA”.
You’re right Red Five, it looks just like the pictures of Hiroshima after the bomb.
One thing worse than a tornado during the day is a tornado at night. There is nothing more terrifying weatherwise because you can’t see the visual cues. I lived in the region for nearly two years and the three months of “tornado season”, (April-June) was one of continual stress with “tornado watch” being a common daily weather fact.
It is the main reason I left and returned to the East Coast.
But my heart and prayers are with these people as I lived in a town very similar to this one. God be with them.
I don’t expect them to be screaming “Where’s FEMA?!?” ie, ‘government handouts. Midwesterners are a hardy, self sufficient group who will pull themselves up by the bootstraps and repair the damage and heal themselves. They wouldn’t want to burden anyone else with their “problem”....unlike those in the deep south who continue to bitch and moan and attempt to capitalize on their “victimhood” nearly two years after Katrina.
Looks like a lot of people are in OZ,
Amen to that ‘cuda.
Trust me (I speak from experience), the second most horrifying sound you will ever hear is the sound of a tornado close by your house in the middle of the night.
The most horrifying sound is the howling nightmare of a tornado IN your house in the middle of the night.
I pray to the Lord I never hear it again.
The Cheney Halliburton Weather Machine at work again! Damn that George Bush! (/moonbat>
Except for the local pols, I am surprized that the usual suspects are not down there grabbing camera time showing how empathetic they are as they chopper in, pose for a few shots then go off to a cushy hotel for din din.
Yep, nothing to loot, and if anyone did they’d get shot as they’d be from out of town; that’s just how little towns like this are. Nobody’d loot from thier neighbors. And nothing to “rebuild,” either. Get a few Rome plows (http://www.romeplow.com/kgblade.html) and clear it all off. Hope they were well insured.
Rivid & BobF this isn’t going to play out like chocolate city NO - these are salt of the earth middle Americans - who work hard and play harder and will just pick themselves up and do what has to be done. And because (personal opinion only) probably 90% or better are white - the usual suspects won’t be bothern’ themselves none to go down there and pander - for two reasons - can’t make it a racist issue and can’t insure any votes. Plus we all know, they don’t care when white America gets hit - they deserve it.
Sad - God be with them all.
First, let me just say, God bless all of them and help them in their struggles which have only just begun.
Second, I’ll bet they rebuild faster than New Orleans even with their nearly two year head start.
Okay, just hear that REGULAR ARMY soldiers have been arrested for looting. Might be the result of a “misunderstnading” but the upshot is that they were looting. Hmmmm....
