  1. Wow those were some great pictures.

I am still going through boxes of my Mother’s things. It has been a long but interesting adventure.

The latest find that almost went into the garbage bag of time (which means I will probably have to go through every garbage bag before I toss them) - was a letter to my Mom from a woman in New York mailed in 1964, wrapped inside, still in the original envelope, a letter from my Grandmother to her about my Uncle’s death, written in Dec of 1942.

These are pieces of family history that are priceless and I appear to be one of the few people in the family who care.

In loving memory of CMDR (USN MC) William Morris Fischbach (1912-1968) and AAC Cadet Carl Geoffrey Stridsberg, 1918-1942. Truly Men of the Greatest Generation.

  2. Nice Work,Great stuff.
DId you know that because the admiral( Nagumo I think) in charge of the attack stopped the second wave from being launched, that the entire fuel stockpile of the fleet evaded destruction. If not for that, the Midway campaign would not have been possible at the time because of a lack of resources. Just one little thing can change history.

  3. The first shot shows, in the upper left quadrant, directly above the stern of the first ship on the left, USS Nevada, three spurts of water with a white line running from the tallest spurt down a line to 4 o’clock, directly at the USS West Virginia. You see the concentric circles running from the Westie. It is thought, and well founded, that this is a shot of the only midget sub to get inside the harbor and get off a shot. Just to the right of the spurts in a dark image tht would easily fit such a sub in that firing position.

If there had not been a Pearl Harbor, there would not have been a Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

  4. Amazing. All praise and honor to the men who fought WW2.  The war itself, like all wars, sucked shit.

  6. True Suidae, however, at least they had the support of the people and government which probably shortened the war considerably.
I do appreciate the link Peiper, I am a bit of a jack-leg historian of WWII, mostly the European theater, but you can’t study one fully without the other.

    Just a comment…
