DC to copy Boston’s Dumb Idea

DC cops want to search your house. What are you afraid of? You aren’t hiding anything illegal are you?

“Uh, sarge, I think there’s something hiding behind this wall, inside this television, and inside this mattress. “
“So? Tear them apart, let’s see what this ‘alleged’ honest citizen is hiding. Rip up the floorboards too.”

  3. “We are not satisfied with the number of guns on the streets of the District of Columbia,” Fenty said.

So why are you looking in houses for them ???.
Shouldn’t the slogan be Safe Streets!.
And why not stop and search on those aforementioned streets?.
Oops, sorry, the American Communist Lawyers Union would be on that like stink on sh*t now wouldn’t they?

  4. Well after all, if you refuse to let the police search your house, you must be hiding something illegal. Therefore refusal to submit to “voluntary” search constitutes “probable cause”.

  5. Uh huh, nice bit of double talk in this one.  On one hand, they make it sound like a wonderful, voluntary program where parents and guardians can invite the police into their homes to help them with naughty children.  The flip side shows up when the police arrive at someone’s door and ask if they can look around.  Technically, it’s voluntary.  In practical terms it’s not unless you have a videographer and lawyer immediately present.  The way this is presented in the attached articles is what I call pushmepullyou.  People who can’t deal with critical thinking are susceptible to it.  Net result is that while it technically isn’t a warrantless search, functionally, it is.  Oh yeah, did anyone notice that while they’re declaring “amnesty” on anything they find, they also state that they will investigate if they think a gun has been used in a crime?  How far will this investigation go?  What happens to the amnesty?

    P.S.
I looked around the ACLU web site.  Not one word about this.  They’re more interested in presenting reports to the U.N.  Here’s the link:  ACLU Home

  6. So why hasn’t anyone filed for an injunction to block this?

If they were searching simply for drugs or terrorist weapons, the ACLU would be all over like - you pick.

It strikes me the Washington, D. C. city government is ‘doubling down’ on their attack on the Bill of Rights.  Not being satisfied to violate the 2nd Amendment, they are going for broke by ignoring the 4th Amendment as well.  And as Dr. Jeff points out, the 5th Amendment is bent pretty hard in offering ‘amnesty unless’.

Come on, Supreme Court; do the right thing and uphold the Constitution!

Then we need to remove the WDC city government from about the first supervisor level up.
