  1. “Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient Causes; and accordingly all Experience hath shewn, that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while Evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the Forms to which they are accustomed.”

    --- U.S. Declaration of Independence

    however, the document continues ...

“But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government,...”

  3. How about we throw them all out and start over?

    Not a bad idea.

  4. The obvious fact is that we vote for a Senator and a Representative, not for “Congress”.  “Congress” is a bunch of pork-barreling scumbags—but OUR guy is pretty cool, and got us that nice military base.

  5. Amen Suidae.  despite the polls, any number of morons have been continually re-elected.  Once in office, incumbents have the ability to virtually assure re-election with patronage, pork and sucking up to special interests who turn out the voters.  Congressional staffs have multiplied exponentially since the 80’s and their primary task is to save their jobs.  Everytime one of them says he is doing the work of the people i could puke.

  6. One of the few things we’ve gotten right here in California is term limits.  The Democrats, especially the loathsome Perata (State Pol - not much national coverage on him, except he doesn’t like the 2nd Amendment) are going nuts trying to get a phony people’s petition going to amend the law and let them stay in power.  Gov. Schwartzenegger has told them that he will consider going along with it if they agree to redistricting.  The Dems aren’t anymore likely to go along with that anymore than they would like to have sex changes.  Then again, some of them might like that - a sex change that is.

  7. Anyone familiar with “The Prisoner’s Dilemma” in game theory?  Look it up.
As it applies to Congress, it’s to (for example) Indiana voters’ interest that the other 49 states have term limits—but we don’t.  That way we’ll have senior Congressscum who are able to secure us lots of Porkbarrel Goodies.

  8. Suidae; one depresseing thought after the other.  Never thought about that aspect.  Lets start shooting them.

  9. If we really want*** reform we can handle it—force every state to play by the same rules.  Perhaps a rotating term limit thing, so that Congress would get recycled every 10 years.  We don’t want EVERYONE to be a total green-ass who can’t find the toilet.

*** Marked by willingness to do more than bitch. (Not that bitching isn’t a sacred right). The willingness to think hard and then act.

  10. Point taken, but do you really think a bunch of green-asses could do any worse than the crop there now?
The reason term limits make sense is they know there time is limited and they no longer focus on doing things that are primarily aimed at getting re-elected.  I had a bit of dilema with the immigration bill because the whole idea of our Republican form of governmetn is that elected officials would be the better educated citizens and they would act in the best interest of the county even if the rest of the rabble didnt see the wisdom of their actions.  Unfortunately, the only time the congress takes their eyes off the polls is when they are pandering to a particular group.  In this case all those potential voters.

  11. I’d take an all newby congress anyday as long as we have all new staffers as well. Some of the staff critters are as bad as the congresscreeps.
A better plan though would be to block inscumbutts from campaigning on anything other than their record. All they would be allowed to pass out is a list of how they voted and what exactly the bill was.
