so skip - how do you buy one ???
Bah humbug. I stopped playing the fancy scotch game when MacCallan 20 upped the price to over $200/bottle. fugeddabowdit! I like quite a few of the single malts, but I’m not spending $80 and more just for one little bottle of booze.
Best taste for the money is a $35-40 1.75L bottle of Famous Grouse. Better taste than any other blended scotch including Crown Royal and Pinch, better taste than lots of single malts too. Hey Santa, are you listening?
Expensive scotch is like expensive wine. Only reason it costs that much is because someone is willing to pay that amount. Expensive tequilla on the other hand, is a sucker’s game. $80 for a half size bottle of Cabo Wabo? Mwhaaahahhaaahahaahaha! Sucka!
You can buy this at any number of sources (provided you have the $$$). Try this one:

Many years ago, i had the pleasure of sharing a 25-year-old bottle of glenmorangie with some firends. that’s a fine scotch.
Drew you’re right the Macallan has got too expensive but this may be due to the Japanese now owning the distillery. Personally I favour the Islay malts such as Ardbeg but they are very much an acquired taste. Some twenty years or so ago I was working in import export and we had a crate of whiskies that dated back to the 1920’s. All sorts including Macallan and Glenlivet. They were covered in dust. They ended up going for auction where I believe one of the bottles made something crazy like £30,000. It was bought by a Japanese guy to give to his boss as the ultmate kiss, ass suckup!!! I like the Japanese but they have some funny ideas!
Drew if you get a chance and see it in a duty free shop try and get a bottle of Macallan “as we get it” cask strength so you need a few drops of water!
Laphroaig!
Anything else is just scotch.
It not only puts hair on your chest - it then plucks it, slowly, one hair at a time.
LyndonB the cask strength Mac is for sale here. Bit of a rough edge, but ah, that’s what a scotch should taste like. I found the older Macallans to be velvet smooth, but lacking in body. I didn’t know the Japanese bought the place. That would explain why suddenly there is a 10, 15, etc., year old on the market in addition to the regular 12, 18, 25.
Hmmmm, let’s see, make a bottle of scotch that is so rare and expensive that the suckers, er, customers, can never afford to drink it.
Brilliant!
I don’t think MacAllan bottles a 20-year old. I agree the 25 is overpriced, but if you can find the 18 for ~$65 it’s pretty good.
But when I was at the distillery last year, I had a taste of a 44-year old, and it was the closest thing to Heaven I’ll ever see. I’ll certainly never *buy* one (not at $3K a bottle), but getting a free glass was amazing.
I have about 60 bottles. My own favorites tend towards Highland Park and Glemnorangie.
Obviously, I should imbibe a bit before posting; it might improve my typing and spelling skilz.
