Bush was a reckless near-dictator; his successor is returning power to the people.

  1. Andrew Sullivan is a twit.  I used to read him, but stopped reading when the most important thing to him was gay marriage.

  2. Now look at Obama. . . And yet what one senses is restraint

Proof of what bikerbob said. Twit is being generous.

  3. Guys, why do you take any heed of the UK media, they are in the socialist thrall, Goeballs would be proud of the censorship in Europe, and all without any legal powers to censor. Without blogs like this I would be clueless too, one viable source of probablle truth is the EU referendum on blogspot, it has evolve wildley since its birth, has a lot of researched comment on the US and Iraq, Afghanistan etc give it a read!
Good luck to Peiper and his family.

  4. Why is Andrew Sullivan still alive? Dang I wish his mother had been pro-choice.

  5. I wonder what color the sky is in this buttwad’s universe. It would seem to be more productive for him to put the lance to the communist’s that have stolen his country, and leave the fight to the death, against our socialists here, to us.

  6. I’m sorry, but the “Bush is a dictator” meme is ludicrously stupid when you actually look at the facts.

And, as Pieper noted, others had a far WORSE record for that then Bush. I mean, you think the Patriot Act is bad, take a look at what FDR, Harry Truman, and Woodrow Wilson (three people the Left has always tried to claim as their own, with varying degrees of accuracy) actually DID.

And before ANYONE sprouts off some tripe about the above being “Fascists”, keep in mind that not only is that ahistorical, think of who was even MORE ruthless then they.

Yes, I am talking about ABRAHAM LINCOLN, compared to whom Bush is a pushover. You think Bush cracked down on dissent, well trust me, Lincoln ruthlessly targeted his most unrepetent opponents into the ground, targeted and eliminated newspapers attacking him and the US’s role in the Civil War, and authorized interrogation techniques that would be considered torture now (sleep deprivation, stopped from using the restroom, etc).

But he, and the above, are not condemned as “Fascists” but as heroes of Democracy. And RIGHTFULLY SO.

I believe that a wise man said that “a paradox of warfare is that Democratic nations are forced to adopt some of the trappings of authoritarianism to defend their ideals against enemies.”

Unfortunately, few people actually understand that in this world.

WTF is this actually suppossed to mean to common folks?

The rough translation is that, in order to remain Democratic in the face of a threat (be it Hitler, Kaiser, Stalin, the Jihad, etc) , Democracies must sometimes take a page or two from the Dictator’s handbook. (See torture, Japanese Internment, carpet bombing for examples.).

The key issue is to make sure that those methods are TEMPORARY, and are relinquished after it is over.

  9. As an adjunct to Turtlers response to LFW2 let me say this: While our Presidents in the past have on occasion taken steps we deem a travesty to our ideals as encompassed in the constitution, at the end of all such hostilities we have always abandoned those usurpations at the earliest moment possible. That is the difference between this nation and all the rest. We actually believe and respect the words and ideals our founders gave us.
