  1. I dunno, the “There will be no amnesty” sounded good up until the point where he explained it was amnesty with fines....

  2. I knew it, I knew it.  Placating baloney for the most part.  Instead of sending the National Guard that has fought at Meuse-Argonne and Omaha Beach, or in Iraq and Afghanistan, he going to castrate them first and send a bunch of eunuchs. I’ll bet all the money in my pocket that shortly after their deployment or maybe sooner, we’ll see phrases like “the troops are using restraint” or “the troops have no ammunition in their assault rifles” in the MSM. We don’t need to pacify and placate these invaders, but make it very unattractive for them to come here. A large part of that has to be fear of the consequences, and that doesn’t mean the mere inconvenience of catch and release, but fear of jail, immediate deportation, or being shot.

And he made excuses for not prosecuting employers who hire illegals.

    Damn I’m pissed.

The politicians (esp. #1 fucking RINO Specter)are talking about whipping up legislation to make sure the troops don’t have arrest powers, so what good can the troops do? We’re just going to piss off the troops and drive re-enlistments down by taking them away from families and jobs in a paper tiger mission. We’d be better off to let the Minute Men, many of whom are retired and whose children are grown, be eyes for the Border Patrol if the Guard is merely going to be Border Buddies.

And what is the concern about arrest powers? We’re not talking about arresting US citzens, but stopping an invasion of foreigners who at minimum steal from us and at worst come plotting mass murder.

Arrrgghghhhhh. When and where is the barn meeting? I have 200′ of 3/4″ rope I can bring….

  3. Squiggy: why use the government’s crap computers at all? I’ve spent a good deal of my life as a government contractor. I know what crap the systems are and I know how much is literally wasted every day. This is a crisis and needs to be addressed now. You are correct in saying that the whole plan needs to be implemented. My taking umbrage with his third point was my way of saying that the five points are good UNLESS they are simply half-assed. Example: what is stopping employers from using the current background check systems already out there? There are hundreds of services available on the internet to do background checks, credit checks, etc. A bogus SSN account will show up immediately. Companies aren’t doing their due diligence because they want the cheap labor. Government could also help. The SS administration does indeed receive a lot of funds each year with no valid SSN account. Sure, they’re glad to get the money with no need to worry about having to pay it out later but why can’t they at least take a look at where it’s coming from. If employer ABC reports collection for several bogus SSN accounts, then somebody needs to pay a visit to employer ABC.

I have the same problem with the other four points. If done properly, they will work and this problem will be solved. If they are done half-assed, such as sending the guard to the border with no bullets, no arrest authority and no clear rules of engagement then it’s a waste of time. The problem here is lack of confidence in government actually doing these five things efficiently and properly. It is a lack of confidence that is based on past examples of government bureaucracy and on current actions or the lack thereof to actually address this crisis in a meaningful manner. The five points are good and I’ll support them all in this plan. Will the government do the same? I’ll bet you a steak dinner that none of these steps will be actually implemented as they should be. Cynical? Yep. With good reason. To borrow my state’s motto: “SHOW ME”.

  4. RE: Checking social security numbers

I prepare many tax returns electronically every year. If my clients name, social security number and birthdate don’t match I get a rejection from the IRS that says “this information does not match Social Security Administration records, check all information, make corrections and resubmit.” This is the same for the taxpayer and/or spouse and all dependants.

I have one client who is married with 8 children. That’s ten social security numbers, names and birthdates that have to match exactly with the Social Security Administration records. If ANY of these records don’t match I will get a rejection notice in less than 24 hours. So don’t believe that it’s impossible to tell if some illegal alien is using a fake social security number.

This whole issue has me really exercised. My husband is second generation American and my inlaws tell stories of how long it took their families to come here legally. When they came they immersed themselves in the American culture, had to learn English to get along at all. Their children did not learn to speak the language of the old country because their native tongue is now American and they were not allowed to have divided loyalties.

Employers need to be fined huge amounts. Take away the incentive to hire cheap labor. It’s costing us a fortune already to take care of all of the illegals and their families. This issue is making me so angry, that I’m losing my sympathy even for the children. And I hate that, because, the poor children have no choice, they’re always the ones to suffer.

  5. I like the Presidents plan, but I’ve seen firsthand how the Congress *spit!* works and I don’t trust them as far as I could throw Ted Kennedy…

Posted by Severa    United States   05/16/2006  at  09:29 AM

  6. Sev, that image – you, ol’ lardbutt, a BIIIG heave. Yuck, but perversely compelling.

The SSN is NOT supposed to be a means of identification, as I recall. When developed the issue was to not make a national identity paper system. You’ve all seen the movies…the big snarling burly guard holding out his hand saying (in an evil German accent) “Papers, papers!” In the ‘30s that image was all too real and we wanted to avoid that.

If we want to change it, we should have the national debate and do it or not do it by consensus.

Finally, it is clear that the little employer will have a harder time doing background checks – hell the little guy is already burdened with compliance bullshit. But, hitting a number of larger employers with “meaningful” punishments would have a ripple effect. The net effect will be to push large numbers of illegal workers out of the system from the inside. No mass deportations with video of poor little Conchita in her momma’s arms crying as a big bad cop/soldier hauls her off like a little German Jewish girl in 1940, no big protests, no revilment from the UN and other usual suspects….

  7. I am disappointed with the President’s speech downer  actually this is one area where I’ve always disagreed with the President. What they (Congress critters and administration) need to do is realize that America’s LEGAL citizens (who vote) are not content with placating bs that amounts to nothing - something must be done and done NOW.

Sad, sad - they’ve all become spineless PC poll fearing whimps. What has America become? And what will happen next?

I sent a brick, I just sent ANOTHER email to all my reps. and I fear this situation will not be taken care of.  Pretty soon there will be no place to hide - the insane and evil people of the world will take over - ‘cuz these spineless morons aren’t gonna stop ‘em at all.

  8. Amnesty...no amnesty, indigents....illegals, penalties and back taxes.......free ride and front of the line… wtf ?? More politically correct crap that needs to stop! The law today only seems to apply to tax paying citizens, if you are an illegal or a Kennedy, no worries! the law don’t apply to you. Screw the wall and fences, that dog don’t hunt!, cost is too high and the lil buggers are industrious. A simple warning sign in English only crazyposted every so hundred yards (meters to you Bulldog!) with the message.

Warning ...Mine Field Ahead, Cross at Your Own Risk!!  big surprise  peace

  9. Love it Gizmo. Electricfied, mines, auto-guns - as I said in another post - too bad the Nasty Guard won’t get ‘shoot to kill’ orders.

I resist the urge (two Spanish speaking daughters kinda pushed me toward Si Habla) to ask every Hispanic person I see - are you here legally?

Pray for a local tavern who is being raked over the coals - months ago he put up a sign (in the window) Speak English to get service. Then changed it to - If you don’t speak English, you won’t get served. Now being sued for second time. Must see if he is getting legal fund asistance.

At the same time - Butler CNTY Sherrif who put up sign Illegal Immigrants (arrow pointing to his jail) is being attacked for the sign. He sends the bills for his illegals to Homeland Security.

Always the way, the criminals are given a pass and those who stand up and enforce the laws or make rules for their privately owned establishments are taken to the financial cleaners.

    What is happening to America?

  10. Wardmama, Thats the beauty of land mines, they are non discriminating!  grin

Posted by Gizmo    United States   05/16/2006  at  03:03 PM

  11. You know what really pisses me off? the preggies who sprint over the border to give birth. My daughter was born in Germany - I never had a single rad ask me if she wanted to become a German. It was a given that we were just ‘working’ there - no intention ever of becoming citizens.

Whoever, let this auto-citizen crap start should be shot and strung up and shot and quarted. That is the biggest insanity and it needs to stop NOW.

  13. the leader of the free world (GW GOD) spoke, and the bbc dident even show it, so i did not see it mad

  14. Normally, I stand by G.W. - but his speech was wrong.  Simply put, it was political pandering to both sides.  I feel this is, what, 1986(?) all over again...amnesty now and a (broken) promise of enforcement for later.  This bullsh*t has got me fuming.

Since when did America start becoming the refuge for the losers from other countries.  This is not to say all immigrants are losers.  But why is it that we have to take the rejects from other countries?  Mexicans have their own country: Mexico.  If they can’t “make it” there, why in the hell should we want them here?!?

Time stock the Rio Grande with piranha, mine the first 10-15 miles of our Southern border, and put signs at the Rio Grande, in Eeengleesh and Espahneeesh, stating, “Nearest authorized entry point ‘x’ miles thataway...trespassers will be shot on sight.” As for deporting all the existing illegals here now...I’d like to see the long-term cost/benefit analysis of immediate deportation costs versus a 10, 20, or 30-year welfare savings with the illegals gone.

It is past time to start making a stand on this issue.  G.W.’s speech only succeeded in helping his poll figures.
