  2. 50 minuntes?!  Either the crime rate is outrageously high or the local cops are nothing more than British versions of Barney Fife.

  3. And here the left was howling when a woman in OK shot a guy who spent minutes bashing at her glass door (back, completely passed the front door) because she did not wait until the police got there 20 minutes after she called. The 911 operator told her to go lock herself in the bathroom (only room with a lock on the door) - She said - I’m going to close myself in a small room with no escape and a flimsier door than the one he is bashing in? No if he comes in, I’m going to shoot him. She did, he died and she asked God to forgive her - all on 911 audio tape. Still no police.

The problem is several fold - people who have no business reproducing who are too busy with their own addictions or vices are not raising the children they have, so the kids have a huge chip on their shoulders and turn it outward, police who no longer act like they have guts and/or authority (or if they do face lawsuits and public outcry) and finally a criminal justice (NOT) system that lets ‘em wheel and deal and go with a slap on the wrist - and crime goes wild.

And all the while civilization goes further and further down the drain.

  4. Corsair ... seems like they’re getting more like the keystone kops every day. Hate to say that.  Of course, commit litter or smoke in he wrong place or hurt someone’s feelings and they’ll be on ya like stink on a skunk.

  5. When seconds count, the police are only minutes (or in the UK’s case, possibly hours) away.

Unless of course you tell the police calltaker on the phone that an officer of the law has been shot and is down, then it’s amazing how fast (and how many of) the police will show up.  (Yes, they then will file a charge against you for filing a false report, or obstruction of justice, or some such thing.)

But I’m not cynical.  Nope.  Not me.

Just handle things as best you can at the moment of crisis, and call the police in after the fact as the investigative/mop-up crew they really are, and remember these key words, they may save you from a lengthy defense in court:  “I was in fear for my and my family’s lives!”

  6. criminal justice (NOT) system

Wardmom, no.  It’s The Criminal System.  Strike “justice” as there is none. The ‘SYSTEM’ works for the wrong ppl, therefore it is the criminal system.

  7. Every time I read or hear something like this I think of a case 20some years ago in Lewisberg, Oregon (a few miles north of Corvallis).  A man heard someone breaking into his car about 3 AM.  He got his gun and caught the crook in the act.  However, instead of stopping, the perp turned and ran.  The homeowner shot him in the back and killed him.  Then he went in and called the police.

The burgler’s girlfriend was sitting in her car several blocks away and did not know what happened.  One of the cops stopped (it’s rather strange to see someone sitting in their car at 3AM) and found the car full of stuff they had stolen from around the neighborhood.

It turned out that the dead robber and the girlfriend both had criminal records; his was fairly extensive.  His latest conviction had been armed robbery in another state and he was out on parole.  Of course, he was violating parole by being in a different state committing crime.

The liberal hand-wringers (and Corvallis is full of them) lamented this loser’s death.  Oh, his poor parents, his poor girlfriend, the guy who shot him was a gun nut, etc.  The only thing the homeowner did wrong was shoot the crook in the back, and a grand jury refused to indict him on the grounds that he was protecting his property from a career criminal.

Several days after the incident, someone wrote a letter to the editor of the Corvallis paper.  To paraphrase: “While the death of a person is never a happy occasion, the fact that the dead criminal had been convicted numerous times of similar crimes shows that he considered burglary and robbery his career.  Many careers have some dangerous activities associated with them.  In the case of this person’s chosen life’s work, he experienced the most dangerous of occupational hazards...being shot and killed while performing his self-assigned duties.”
