2. Symbols are important.... But .. Is Osama a head of state? Can he sign a surrender?  It would ease my heart to slit his throat, but how would it would make much difference in The War?

4. Osama, at this point, is a major figurehead. Do not make the mistake of looking at him thru weatern eyes - his confirmed death would be a huge blow to the psyches of the al Q and other tangos. Soldiers offer truces for very few reasons, only a few are good ones - to pick up the dead and wounded during an on-going battle or in recognition of a mutually respected day or event such as the Christmas truces in WW I (not the facrical ones in Viet Nam!) The other reason is just what we had in Viet Nam - a chance for the losing side to get a breath and come back better than before.

   Pound the bastards, and go into Pakistan and get this asswipe, screw what the Pakis and muslim street says.

6. The Doolittle bombing raid on Japan in April 1942 was an important symbol.  It raised our morale and showed the enemy where the wild bear s in the woods.  It did not win the war.
