  1. I believe he’s the guy my wife did a phone interview with long ago.  Around the time of the WELL publicized-by-MSM gay man’s murder by some whack-job with homosexual panic.  They made a movie of it, full of lying bullsh*t, starring the usual Hollywood asshats. I REFUSE to Google all this.

Anyhow, if this is the same man, he’s a sane stone assh*le, and a hard cold publicity seeker.

  2. If the members of the Westboro Baptist Church consist mostly of Phelps’ extended family, I’m afraid we may have to wait until they die off for this particular problem to go away. Phelps and his ilk fail to realize that we are defending ALL LIFE in this country, whether we agree with it or not. Including them.

  3. A scumbag of the lowest order is Phelps. Apparently he discounts the teachings of Christ in his “church”. He’s also got at least one website. No, I’m not going to post it.

Considering the old saying “he doth protest too much”, perhaps Phred has a problem he’s trying to hide.

On the positive side we have this fine bunch of folks in the Patriot Guard. Others have done the same, including local municipal police forces who have blocked the demonstrators from view and IIRC a police bagpipe band has also marched to shield mourners from this vile filth.

  4. StinK: Could be, but I doubt it, in this case. See above #1—“Thank You For Not Posting” (Scumbag’s WWW)

We need to save ‘homophobic’ for people who are—“An irrational fear of”, not ‘dislike, disapproval, indifference’.

  5. I guess we’ll never know unless he’s caught in a compromising situation with a young boy. Or an old boy, for that matter.

Okay, I’ll buy your assertion that he may be of the “I don’t care what they say about me as long as they spell my name right” crowd.

I just wish he’d go away ... or die ... painfully. Taking his vileness to the funerals of others is just about as sickening as I can imagine anyone doing.

Posted by StinKerr    United States   02/21/2006  at  11:15 AM

  6. Kerr: Don’t know if I got the right turd man; NOT gonna go surfing to find out.  Could be he’s deeply closeted. My friends had an older woman neighbor who was morbidly afraid that some Big Buck red face  African-American was gonna rape her.

    With any luck at all!

Posted by Oink    United States   02/21/2006  at  11:32 AM

  7. He wouldn’t necessarilily have to be closeted to be full of hate.  Plenty of those types out there.  The MSM is just pretty good about publicizing any whackjob spewing vile that claims to be a Christian.  If you are a ‘reverend’ then even better, you might be the front page!

I found his daughter’s comments that we are a country that embraces homosexuals (and therefore deserving of God’s wrath) especially troubling.  I detest when people try to twist the WWJD message to fit their own agenda, but in this case I believe that we are called specifically TO embrace them.  Just not their actions.

Posted by Beccayinn    United States   02/21/2006  at  12:39 PM

  8. Phelps is no better than one of the Iranian Immams who preach their hatred and then retreat into freedom of speech and tolerance for all except their chosen targets.

WWJD?  He’d kick Phelps’ ass and them tell him, “Go and sin no more!”

  9. This “church” scheduled protests here in Logan County, WV for the funerals of the two miners who died in the Alma mine fire recently. At the last minute the protests were called off. Good decision. Lots of good ole boys here were just waiting for that bunch of Christofascists to show their asses.

  14. Sorry to spoil your fun ‘plans’ for this group of nut cases - but you didn’t catch the real line here - his daughter is an attorney. They are being particularly obnoxious and targeting the military funerals especially (you know those military folks are a violent lot)just to get someone to attack them SO THAT THEY CAN SUE. It is their entire agenda, which is aided and abetted by the msm - as pointed out - who relish any enity (the weirder and more obscene the better) who claim religious (especially Christianity) affiliation.

I can not understand why the Baptists or Southern Baptists and why some legal eagle isn’t after them for corrupting the name Baptist Church and hiding behind the tax/legal issues by claiming to be a church/religion.

This is nothing but a cult and one that is particularly defaming church, the Baptists, Christianity and American freedom of speech. Not to mention the concept of family.

  18. from “Screwtape Proposes a Toast” by C.S. Lewis, first and last paragraphs. In Hell of course, “The Enemy” is God.

The scene is in Hell at the annual dinner of the Tempters’ Training College for young devils. The principal, Dr. Slubgob, has just proposed the health of the guests. Screwtape, a very experienced devil, who is the guest of honour, rises to reply:
    ...
But now for the pleasantest part of my duty. It falls to my lot to propose on behalf of the guests the health of Principal Slubgob and the Tempters’ Training College. Fill your glasses. What is this I see? What is this delicious bouquet I inhale? Can it be? Mr. Principal, I unsay all my hard words about the dinner. I see, and smell, that even under wartime conditions the College cellar still has a few dozen of sound old vintage PHARISEE.  Well, well, well. This is like old times. Hold it beneath your noses for a moment, gentledevils. Hold it up to the light. Look at those fiery streaks that writhe and tangle in its dark heart, as if they were contending. And so they are. You know how this wine is blended? Different types of Pharisee have been harvested, trodden, and fermented together to produce its subtle flavour. Types that were most antagonistic to one another on Earth. Some were all rules and relics and rosaries; others were all drab clothes, long faces, and petty traditional abstinences from wine or cards or the theatre. Both had in common their self-righteousness and an almost infinite distance between their actual outlook and anything the Enemy really is or commands. The wickedness of other religions was the really live doctrine in the religion of each; slander was its gospel and denigration its litany. How they hated each other up where the sun shone! How much more they hate each other now that they are forever conjoined but not reconciled. Their astonishment, their resentment, at the combination, the festering of their eternally impenitent spite, passing into our spiritual digestion, will work like fire. Dark fire. All said and done, my friends, it will be an ill day for us if what most humans mean by “Religion” ever vanishes from the Earth. It can still send us the truly delicious sins. Nowhere do we tempt so successfully as on the very steps of the altar.

  20. Doll: The speaker is from “The Screwtape Letters”, by C.S.Lewis—a MUST read.  Sorry if I’m preaching to the choir, but that book has answers for the problems we’re discussing in this topic.  And it’s short, easy and funny.

Posted by Oink    United States   02/21/2006  at  06:26 PM

  21. Probably echoing the obvious, but ANYTHING by CS Lewis is worth a read!  Though I never read any of his science fiction.  Something tells me that someone here may be familiar with it.

It is SUCH a fine line, though, and probably why the enemy (the real enemy!) exploits it with such success.  We have to stand against evil and heresy and sometimes both of those are found in the church.  But, you have to embrace people in love!  No matter WHAT they stand for or against.  It can be a tricky number, balancing that line.  And I think God has purposely left some things rather vague (things that churches and denominations disagree about) for the express purpose of having us learn to work together (IN LOVE) through our differences.

I think there is a HUGE difference between calling fire and brimstone down upon gays and thanking God for the instruments of war that have killed men and disagreeing over baptism and communion and other such teaching.  The former should be resoundly condemned and the later should be worked through (IN LOVE!!!)

  22. Becca: I agree about accepting people, not always their ideas.  But with real evil, for examply that malicious & spiteful troll we had a couple of days ago, neither of us is good enough to deal with him. I’d probably lose my temper, you might become too accepting. (As I understand you having not met you face-to-face.) Listen well:

  25. Bob: You meant to say Moo-On.org would not be deductible.  A church needs to be careful not to cross the line into ‘politics’ or it can lose it’s tax-exempt status. I agree, in principle, that churches ought to stay out of direct electoral politics. (Our Catholic priests are forbidden to run for office.) Thanks to our tax code, we have the government deciding if you are, or are not, a church.

On that issue. I was/am no admirer of David Koresh, nor a believer in satanic conspiracy theories about Waco, but the guy went into town regularly, and was always civil when the sheriff dropped in. There was every reason to believe that a phone call and a knock on the door would have worked just fine.  After the smoke cleared and the ashes cooled, many sensible people were wondering if they could get a list of government-approved churches, so as to feel safe.

Posted by Oink    United States   02/21/2006  at  11:06 PM

  26. Bob—I thought it was a typo. Even the Feds are smart enough to avoid listening to sermons and acting to revoke tax-free status, so far. It’s the organized behavior outside the sanctuary that gets one in trouble. “Cult” is maybe true, but problematic, since they’d been there for decades.  The problem with “Waco Wackos” is they try to paint Koresh as some great guy—he was not—but the ATF’s behavior made him look sane and reasonable by comparison.

OCM - Right! Hell’s Angels was first the name of a WW2 fighter squadron; and a movie.
“Common sense” cannot be invoked with people like these.  They are ruled by strange internal biochemistry.

Repeat:  I think ”Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms” should be the name of a convenience store.

  27. You’re about right, OCM, and their political power. I seldom read, “After the resurrection of Jesus, the early Christian Cult ...”
Cults may be characterized by a single charismatic leader with absolute power.

    Reprinted by OINK—By popular demand:

How the United States Marine Corps Differs from Cults
Margaret Singer, Ph.D. and Janja Lalich, M.A.

The Marine recruit clearly knows what the organization is that he or she is joining.... There are no secret stages such as people come upon in cults. Cult recruits often attend a cult activity, are lured into “staying for a while,” and soon find that they have joined the cult for life, or as one group requires, members sign up for a “billion year contract....”
The Marine recruit retains freedom of religion, politics, friends, family association, selection of spouse, and information access to television, radio, reading material, telephone, and mail.
The Marine serves a term of enlistment and departs freely. The Marine can reenlist if he or she desires but is not forced to remain.
Medical and dental care are available, encouraged, and permitted in the Marines. This is not true in the many cults that discourage and sometimes forbid medical care.
Training and education received in the Marines are usable later in life. Cults do not necessarily train a person in anything that has any value in the greater society.
In the USMC, public records are kept and are available. Cult records, if they exist, are confidential, hidden from members, and not shared.
USMC Inspector General procedures protect each Marine. Nothing protects cult members.
A military legal system is provided within the USMC; a Marine can also utilize off-base legal and law enforcement agencies and other representatives if needed. In cults, there is only the closed, internal system of justice, and no appeal, no recourse to outside support.
Families of military personnel talk and deal directly with schools. Children may attend public or private schools. In cults, children, child rearing, and education are often controlled by the whims and idiosyncracies of the cult leader.
The USMC is not a sovereign entity above the laws of the land. Cults consider themselves above the law, with their own brand of morality and justice, accountable to no one, not even their members.
A Marine gets to keep her or his pay, property owned and acquired, presents from relatives, inheritances, and so on. In many cults, members are expected to turn over to the cult all monies and worldly possessions.
Rational behavior is valued in the USMC. Cults stultify members’ critical thinking abilities and capacity for rational, independent thinking; normal thought processes are stifled and broken.
In the USMC, suggestions and criticism can be made to leadership and upper echelons through advocated, proper channels. There are no suggestion boxes in cults. The cult is always right, and the members (and outsiders) are always wrong.
Marines cannot be used for medical and psychological experiments without their informed consent. Cults essentially perform psychological experiments on their members through implementing thought-reform processes without members’ knowledge or consent.
Reading, education, and knowledge are encouraged and provided through such agencies as Armed Services Radio and Stars and Stripes, and through books, post libraries, and so on. If cults do any education, it is only in their own teachings. Members come to know less and less about the outside world; contact with or information about life outside the cult is sometimes openly frowned upon, if not forbidden.
In the USMC, physical fitness is encouraged for all. Cults rarely encourage fitness or good health, except perhaps for members who serve as security guards or thugs.
Adequate and properly balanced nourishment is provided and advocated in the USMC. Many cults encourage or require unhealthy and bizarre diets. Typically, because of intense work schedules, lack of funds, and other cult demands, members are not able to maintain healthy eating habits.
Authorized review by outsiders, such as the U.S. Congress, is made of the practices of the USMC. Cults are accountable to no one and are rarely investigated, unless some gross criminal activity arouses the attention of the authorities or the public.
In the USMC, the methods of instruction are military training and education, even indoctrination into the traditions of the USMC, but brainwashing, or thought reform, is not used. Cults influence members by means of a coordinated program of psychological and social influence techniques, or brainwashing.

  28. I wanted to respond to something Bob said earlier in these comments. Bob you are absolutely wrong if you think that sermons from the pulpit are sacrosanct from being listened to by the government.

Its called 401(c)3. This is the tax status code that churches operate under. One of the most important codecils in the law is that if a pastor uses his sermons to comment on ANYTHING to do with who to vote for or what laws to select in an election, the church WILL have its status changed from nonprofit to political for-profit...PERMENANTLY. This includes taxes on donations, property taxes, everything. I have been told (although I am not sure about this part), that it is retroactive for the time the particular pastor has preached at that church.

If you think this is not enforced, think again (!!!!) and it is for very partisan purposes.

In Wisconsin, in every election year Democratic activists by the boatload are sent out to “visit” Christian churches to make sure nobody is preaching against Democrats or Democratic causes. We have all been warned about what is said at our church and the Pastor reminds us to watch our comments around strangers because a number of churches here have been targeted.

The courts here are elected as are the D.A.’s and the vast majority of them are Democrats so you can imagine about how many times a church has survived being charged with this “crime”. They believe in making examples of the guilty.

A number of churches I know of have long ago decided to avoid the whole trap and went underground. They own no property, they rent everything they have, and they encourage their parishoners to do the same. They take care of their congregations needs using barter and generally avoid the government. Some memebers do not have Social Security numbers, bank accounts, or any legal status with the government. There is a lot more but they are also very secretive so I don’t know a lot of other things for certain. Don’t ever break into one of their homes or cars if you value your safety.

    I digress.

My point is that the government watches churches very carefully. The Clintonista’s saw the armed Christian as the greatest threat to national security they faced. So much so that they were completely uninterested in dealing with piddling little annoyances like Al Qaeda.

The whole Waco massacre was a message directed at US. They sent in the military against US citizens to disarm a religious group!!! We were being warned not to resist when they came to disarm us so they could create the great socialist society. Hand over our guns, our kids, everyone makes love with everyone else, and we all sing Kumbayah beneath Hitlery’s smiling visage.

I first heard the word in the book “The Magic Christian” in the very early 60’s. Very briefly, a prankster is trying to make the passengers on a cruise ship think the place is falling apart.  The closed circuit TV shows a gorilla steering the vessel, and moronic graffiti begins to be painted crudely on the walls, “LET’S KEEP THE CLAP OUT OF CHAPPAQUIDDICK!”.

  39. Anymous: Of course the MSM and, very seldom, we at BMEWS tongue laugh , seize upon the nuttiest example of The Opposition’s behavior to publicize.  There are always freaks and geeks willing to oblige, as long as the publicity is free.

Consider Dick Cheney’s lesbian daughter. (The subject was publicized by the Democrats.) There she was, with her partner, on the stage with her Dad & Mom, cheering her father’s victory. The pathetic NYTimes did not identify her in the photo.

    ‘Conservative’ Republicans?—99.9% didn’t give a rat’s ass.

  41. Lady DMR, you are welcome to continue to visit and engage in discussion here. We pretty much tolerate anybody as long as they’re not hateful and/or insane. I checked and sure enough, Phelps’ web site has a link back here.

For those of you wwho are interested it’s on this page: http://www.godhatesfags.com/news/wbcnews.html and is the entry titled: “Reverend Fred Phelps - 2006-02-21”. It’s as if they’re proud of our discussion here. They also gleefully post other links to people who think they’re totally bonkers. I guess that reveals the fact that their real goal is publicity for their insane acts.

For all the rest of you here: take comfort in the fact that Phelps will eventually have to die, whether from old age or “other causes”. When that happens, he can explain to God his actions. I would love to be a fly on the wall at that hearing.

Just keep in mind that I am neither Democrat nor Republican and I vote for who is the more honest person (A rather hard thing to find in politics anymore.) and who will get the job done with little fuss and cost. I will also speak for both or no sides depending on the subject.

Other then the previous background on me posted above. I joined the Army in 1975 at 17 only to be mustered out a week before graduation on a Medical-Honorable Discharge for too many medical problems. They did not say it then, but it looks like the medical problems mentioned in my posting above made a mess of my life with the Army as well. But this does not negate the fact that I was (And still am.) more then willing to go where I was needed and to catch a bullet for my country. I may not like this war today, But, But and then again BUT! I WILL NEVER, NEVER DISRESPECT OUR SOLDIERS! They went in, signed that paper, put their right hand up and said “I WILL!” AND I LOVE THEM ALL FOR THAT! In my eyes, they are all my fellow soldiers and I will take their backs any time they want or need me to!

Since I was 18, I have been from Calif. To Texas to Utah to Washington State to Minnesota and I now live in Minneapolis, MN and have been here for 8 years. I have been a toy repair woman since I was 9 years old when my Grandmum taught me how to fix my toy bump & go robot. I collect and repair GI Joe/Action Man (GI Joe is Action Man in England.) and Barbie 12 and 11 inch figures and other action figures. I also collect Hot Wheels cars, Star Trek and Star Wars toys, toy robots and large radio controlled robots, collect and repair the old Talking Teddy Ruxpin bear and other talking toys made by WOW, (Worlds Of Wonder.) build and launch Estes model rockets and collect stuffed toys. I love Sci/Fi and Fantasy books and movies, play a mean game of chess and collect chess sets. I am also a self taught computer repair woman.

I am also a volunteer once a year with the local GLBT Pride event booth for Intersexed youth. I do my best to help other young people (15 to 20 years old.) that were born like I was and have no one to help them and have had their own family turn on them (Like mine did.) for wanting to make a choice to be either male or female and not to be stuck in the middle for life. I have had more of these kids in the past 8 years, adopt me as Mum then I care to count. Most have moved on and lost contact with me, but one young lady (She had reparative surgery 1 year before I did.) is still here in Minnesota, engaged to a very nice young man and they are getting married this spring and I get to take Momma duties. May I say that I take these duties with pride! I am so very proud of her!

But the one hobby that I love the most and I wish it would last all year is the local Renaissance Festival. I am very much in love with the Renaissance time period of time and I wish more people would remember the honor and chivalry that most people had then. The people that work at a Renaissance Festival (I work for “The Midsummer Knight’s Dream.” http://www.fantasypuppet.com)
are in my opinion, the best people in the world. The ones at our Renaissance Festival are more like a family then you would know. I camp out at Renaissance Festival for the 2 weeks before it starts and the whole 2 months of the run and these people treat me like family and we are all very protective of each other.

My Grandfather was English (I am 3/4 English.) and he taught me all the things that he felt a young English Nobleman should know. Swordsmanship, defending one’s family, friends and those below one’s station in life, honor, chivalry and all the other things that go with it. Grandmum taught me all that a young English Noblewoman should know. Most of what Grandfather taught me plus being able to sit at court with the other ladies, keeping the home, cooking and all that a young lady needs to know.  They both knew about my medical condition (Like most Grandparents do.) and gave me the best of both worlds and I think they loved me a bit more then my younger brothers (Right or wrong.) because of it.

My Grandfather on my Mum’s side was Lord Emmit Royce, House of Royce, Devonshire, England. He died in 72 and after Mum died in 93, I inherited the title officially in 1998 when I changed my name to Donna Marie Royce and Parliament recognized my claim on the title. I gave up my old name and father’s last name because I did not want to be connected with him and my 2 card packing KKK brothers. (He is KKK as well.)

I have many things I can bitch about, but my biggest bitch (Other then the Phelps hate cult.) is these damn Somalis that are flooding into this country and taking all the resources that those born, working and retired here need. They are given more free goodies then I could ever afford, get welfare, food stamps and medical help out the ears, get Section 8 housing and are still allowed to work and not report a dime of it. I have 3 ruptured disks in my back and messed up hips and I get a meager $500.00 a month in SSI/RSDI (Social Security Disability) because I can not stand and work longer then 4 hours at a time without a 2 hour break and a mess of pain pills and relaxants. And I have to fight for that meager amount and a bit of food, medical and housing help that these things get handed to them on a platinum platter. The killer is that I WORKED for the meager amount I get and these things get HANDED 5 times more then I have a month! WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

And then these freeloaders have the balls to put down America, try to ram their Islam and Mohamed down our necks and then threaten our people with death and their men make plays for our Women and say they are worthy of rape because of how we dress. Minneapolis is really being flooded with these low lives and I have personally had their men tell me that a person like me offends Mohamed and that I should have my head cut off in the town square for being an abomination. If they are so blasted unhappy here and Americans are so disgusting to them, their Islam and Mohamed. THEN GET YOUR BLACK, SOMALI ASS, THE HELL OUT OF OUR COUNTRY AND STAY OUT!

So there you have it folks. My likes, dislikes and political feelings. Thank you all for the good words and B Good

    Lady Donna

  44. And welcome aboard! I may be Anticipating The Order, but The Skipper usually likes me to encourage New Folks to stay on topic.  smile barf Bull shit .  OK, I’m maybe the 2nd worst offender in that regard; anyhow, THE TOPIC usually looks like the new puppy’s stuffed doll when we finish with it.

Hope you have a high tolerance for rough n’ tumble.  My personal goal is to read, and even respond to, what others have to say before I jump right in. Oh yeah, The Skipper has encouraged me, in his mild avuncular way, machinegun  to stop flaying certain jerks who insult the ladies.

    An unofficial pig Welcome.

  46. (OINK steps forward for the mandatory “Self-Criticism" part of “The BMEWS ReEducation And Thought Purification Process”)

I learned that the hard way.  Sometimes I go thru three Previews before getting it right. Or giving up.

  47. OCM:

In the words of the butler Hobson (played by Sir John Gielgud) in the movie “Arthur”:

“SHALL I COME WASH YOUR DICK FOR YOU TOO, ... YOU LITTLE SHIT?”
