Jackpot Drew.
And what a cool customer Capt. Kirk. That was worth watching and most impressive but I have to say, and I know it’s dated, the old Super Connie was a prettier aircraft by far.
Not trying to compare technologies of course, and flying this big new beastie might offer somewhat more comfort and get ppl places faster, but those old beauties like the Connie and the ones shown in your post, will never be duplicated for looks.
A Super Constellation? Better looking?? I suppose our minds are set up to choose that which we grew up with. Ah, better looking than a 747. I get it. That I’ll agree with, although I rather like the big Boeing, which was the Air Star of my age. I remember when they rolled the first one out; even Nat Geo ran a story on this new giant vunderplane.
I certainly didn’t grow up with anything Streamline Moderne, but these are the kind of airplanes that my dad used to doodle on napkins and scraps of paper. The Spitfire is probably the best example of that design school, but any of those long nose, pushed back cockpit, wing forward prop planes of the era fill the bill. Or the Gee Bee racers. Or a B-17. Even a locomotive of the era. Pure 30s style.
