  2. Sabras. Most admirable.

    “The word sabra derived from the Hebrew name for the Indian Fig Opuntia cactus, “tzabar”, and related to the Arabic word sabr which means “aloe” or “cactus” or “patience”.[3] The allusion is to a tenacious, thorny desert plant with a thick hide that conceals a sweet, softer interior, i.e., rough and masculine on the outside, but delicate and sensitive on the inside. The first use of the word to describe native-born Israelis is claimed by the journalist Uri Kesari, who published an essay, “We Are the Leaves of the Sabra!”, in Doar HaYom on 18 April 1931.”

  6. All I know is this:

    Israel had never lost a war until they stopped drafting women.

    I’d actually like some clarification on this. My understanding is that, until recently, women were subject to service in the Israeli armed forces. IE: the draft. When that ‘obligation’ waned, so did Israeli superiority over… say… Hamas, etc.

    A bad mistake to exclude the females.

    They really can be the more deadly of the human sexes.

    If, for no other reason, their presence will stiffen a man’s spine…

    (Among other things… cheese )

    Example: I’ll put myself in jeopardy to protect a female of the opposite sex. I’ll NOT put myself in jeopardy to protect a ‘gay’ person.

    This, of course, is why the US military has the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy.

    Which is a crock.

    I served before that ‘policy’ was enacted.

    You didn’t have to ask; you didn’t have to tell;

    We knew.

    (what do you mean he fell overboard two hours ago?)
