My life is turning to shit and I don’t want to accept it.
Maybe it’s been shit for ages and I’m just oblivious.
Maybe I’m really only 7 and can’t handle the adult world. Maybe I’m just the king of naive and willfully blind.
But I really do want to just deny the pains and the let-downs that I can’t do anything about. The ones that I don’t want to believe, the ones that I want to make better. But won’t.

Oh, and in case you hadn’t heard, the condo market is dead. Thank you Barney Frank. You changed the rules to keep out the deadbeats, and now NOBODY can get a mortgage on any “affordable housing”. Guess all us poor and lower middle folks is supposed to be rentin’ fo-ebah, getting in on that HUD support.
Except that if you have a job that pays even $10/hr, you don’t qualify for a cent of it.
Seriously, go look it up: as of December 2009, Fannie and Freddie, Barney’s pair that underwrites 90+% of all mortgages, ... as of 12/09 if anyone is suing a condo association for any reason at all - ANY - then they won’t write paper on any of the units for sale. And most condo associations of any moderate size - 250 units or more - usually have a case or two on the back burner. A slip and fall, an owner angry about the plumbing. Whatever. Which means you the buyer can’t get a standard mortgage (the kind that can be traded on the market). At best you can get a portfolio loan, which is a local bank or investment group’s mortgage that they can not sell. And for this they will charge you 5-6.5% APR, when you can get a regular 15 year mortgage for 3 flat. And a 30 for 3.65, no points.
So the only people who can buy a condo - which is low cost affordable housing almost by definition - are the ones who can either pay cash for them, or who can take the 40%-85% mortgage interest rate surcharge in stride. In other words, people who really don’t need to buy low income housing.
Not that condo ownership has been a particular dream of mine. But it was one of hers, and she can’t do it. We together could make it work, but that isn’t a good reason for staying together, and I don’t know if I can make the spark come back. I know I can’t do it on my own, if she’s fighting me every step of the way. And that hurts. oh, that hurts so much
