More Focused Today
Ok, Saturday. Get things done day.
Having a late breakfast, early brunch. A bit cool and wet for yard work, but a good day to do laundry. And taxes. Eww Ick!!
Had a nice time at bowling last night, hanging with the fun couple on the other team. Nice time, and we won all 7. That puts us solidly in about 4th place on a 15 team league. Deep into the “big money” zone. hahaha, as if.
Ok, guess I can manage a quick look at the news, just to see if anything major is rearing its head ...
- China thinks it’s got a blip on that missing black box from MH370 Really? Roughly 1000 miles due West of Carnarven, Western Australia, the Chinese report they’ve heard something. link-1 link-2
The report says a black box detector deployed by the vessel, Haixun 01, picked up a signal at 37.5Hz per second Saturday at around 25 degrees south latitude and 101 degrees east longitude.
The report said it was not established whether that the signal was related to missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.
- Stay the hell out of west Africa. Well, duh. No, I mean stay out even more than usual. Ebola outbreak has now spread to Mali, and is running wild in Guinea and Liberia. link
- Feeling burned yet? EPA makes an ash of itself, trying to push new rules for wood stoves. Rural folks not impressed. link
The regulations the EPA has on the books date back to 1988, and don’t take into account some wood-burning devices that weren’t in use back then. The proposed rules would give manufacturers five years to make products that reduce emissions by approximately 80 percent.
It would apply to wood heaters, including outdoor and indoor wood-fired boilers, known as hydronic heaters. The changes would only apply to new stoves and rules would not impact outdoor fireplaces, fire pits or other types of outdoor fire containers.
- Hey, weren’t we supposed to get this last year?? New “retro” release of Windows 8.1 to make the OS more like Windows 7. You know, like working properly with a keyboard and a mouse. Great idea, huh??
At its Build developers conference in San Francisco on Wednesday, Microsoft announced a trio of new features for Windows 8.1 that had a decidedly “old-school” feel: First, Windows will get a bunch of tweaks that make it easier to use with a keyboard and mouse. Second, Microsoft announced that Windows 8-style “Modern” apps will run in a window in the traditional desktop interface. Third, the Start menu—the ultimate signifier of “old” Windows—is eventually coming back.
Not knocking Microsoft here, but they didn’t understand the cost regular folks would have running out and buying a touch screen or a Wii-like wrist mounted pointing device. All that stuff is cool on NCIS episodes on TV, but it takes more money to implement than most of us want to spend these days. link
- They are all cowardly shite. “Silicon Valley employees debate Brendan Eich firing”. Wimps. There is no debate. Mozilla caved to the mob of the super intolerant minority. Even Bill Maher (piss be upon him) agrees. link
Some, especially a dating website that had urged its users to boycott Mozilla’s popular Firefox web browser, cheered Eich’s resignation after less than two weeks as CEO of the nonprofit software company. Others viewed him as a victim and called his critics intolerant of people with different views.
Mozilla co-founder Eich, who invented the programming language Javascript, donated $1,000 in 2008 to support Proposition 8, which sought to ban same-sex marriage in California. Voters approved the measure, but it was struck down last June by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Don’t ask me how the guy who co-founded the company 15 years ago only became the CEO 2 weeks ago. Don’t ask me how SCOTUS struck down Proposition 8, seeing that the feds had in place at that time Bill Clinton’s Defense of Marriage Act, which was highly similar.
Matter of fact, don’t ask me anything about this. In an effort to be fair and understanding, and to make up for past wrongs, our society has ceded “the moral high ground” to vengeful, hate-filled leftists. Homosexuals, Blacks, Muslims, Feminazis, performance artists, nihilists, athiests and other God haters. We are utterly fucked.
Crivens. It’s all sickening. I think I’ll go shopping.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
- Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
- Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
