NFL lineman Ray McDonald arrested for allegedly violating restraining order
NFL lineman Ray McDonald was arrested Wednesday for the second time in three days after allegedly violating a restraining order, authorities in northern California said.
The Santa Clara Police Department told KTVU that the former San Francisco 49er was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a local restaurant after violating the order by being at a local residence.
The order was issued after McDonald’s prior arrest in connection with a domestic violence incident on Monday, in which the 6-foot-3, 290-pound football player allegedly broke down a bedroom door to get to his former fiancee and their infant. McDonald was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangerment, but was free on bail. The Chicago Bears released him hours after that arrest.
On Tuesday, authorities released audio of the 911 call. On the recording, a caller alleged that that McDonald was drunk prior to his arrest. A woman who identified herself as the mother of McDonald’s former fiancee said her daughter had asked her to call police.
The 49ers released McDonald in December, citing a “pattern of poor decision-making.”
That move came just a month after Santa Clara County prosecutors declined to file charges against McDonald in a separate domestic violence investigation stemming from an arrest on Aug. 31 while celebrating his 30th birthday at his home. Prosecutors cited conflicting versions of what happened, a lack of verifiable eyewitnesses and a lack of cooperation by the alleged victim, McDonald’s fiancee, in explaining their decision.
In March, McDonald filed a defamation lawsuit against a woman who had accused him of rape.
Football is such a goldmine of statistics. I wonder if anyone can tell me what percentage of NFL players have an arrest record, or an arrest record of more than X crimes, or more than Y convictions? Just being hypothetical here, but it sure does seem to be no more than Thug Ball these days.
