Guess I Missed That One

What the heck? Does Amazon now own PayPal?

I thought eBay owned PayPal, and was fighting Amazon tooth and nail.

I was just on PayPal. I hardly ever use it, so I wanted to update my personal information. When I clicked the Edit Address bit, up came the exact list of mailing addresses that I use on Amazon. Very strange,

If they’ve merged, I must have missed it.

I may have had Paypal exchanges with those same addresses too. But I didn’t get a list of places I’d done business with, I got a list of places that had been my Ship To addresses on Amazon.

BTW, a British Pound is only worth $1.52. Wow. If the UK has any good catalog stuff you’re considering buying, now would be a good time to go for it.

Bye Bye Clarkson

Jeremy Clarkson Gets The Sack

Crap.

BBC not renewing ‘Top Gear’ presenter Jeremy Clarkson’s contract

Jeremy Clarkson won’t have his contract renewed as host of “Top Gear” after he apparently busted his producer’s lip and verbally abused him, the BBC announced Wednesday.

Clarkson, who hosted one of the most-watched television shows in the world, was suspended on March 10 after what the British broadcaster previously described as a “fracas” with producer Oisin Tymon on March 4.

Wednesday, the BBC released the findings of an internal investigation into the incident.

Ken MacQuarrie, who conducted the investigation, said Tymon had been “subject to an unprovoked physical and verbal attack by Jeremy Clarkson” at a hotel in North Yorkshire after a day of filming. “During the physical attack Oisin Tymon was struck, resulting in swelling and bleeding to his lip,” he said.

The physical attack was halted after about 30 seconds by the intervention of a witness, MacQuarrie said, but Clarkson continued to use “derogatory and abusive language” for a sustained period of time. MacQuarrie said Clarkson made a number of attempts to apologize over subsequent days and had reported the incident to BBC management.

Co-host Richard Hammond tweeted: “Gutted at such a sad end to an era. We’re all three of us idiots in our different ways but it’s been an incredible ride together.”

Fans had earlier expressed outrage at the BBC decision to suspend Clarkson.

Even media baron Rupert Murdoch commented on speculation that Clarkson would be sacked, posting a tweet Tuesday night in which he described the presenter as a “funny man with great expertise.”

bbc radio 2 is ,,,,, too white say diversity chiefs

A reminder to old hands at bmews, and a shocker for any new readers here that missed it several years ago when I ….

Posted an article here that only Drew would be able to find and retrieve if anyone doesn’t believe me.

Some five or so years ago, when the Labour (lie-bour) party was in power, some dim left wing liberal light made a discovery and sought to remedy an obvious racial injustice.  Besides, the govt. was looking for a way here and there to save money.
Well, this person discovered that there was a problem at a national park, one of the remedies aside from closure was to lay off park rangers.
Why?

Because it was discovered that, too many white, middle aged, middle class people were making use of said park.  Not a minority to be seen.  Unacceptable.

Some anonymous millionaire (dare I say the word) white guy, donated a couple of million toward keeping the status quo for another year.  That was the last I heard of the story, and I do believe the libtard plans were scrapped. But I never read a follow up.  So why bring it up now?  Well because the same sort of muddleheaded idiots are still alive and unfortunately well, by which I mean they are still breathing.
And still looking for ways minorities are being shafted by the white establishment.
Here’s the latest TOO MANY WHITE FOLKS story.

Diversity chiefs at BBC Trust calls for changes to, ‘too white’ Radio

The BBC Trust has called on the corporation’s music stations to make a series of changes after reviewing their performance.
Overall, the Trust found that the BBC stations were distinctive and perform a vital role in the development and promotion of UK music.

But after analysing listener views, the Trust has demanded a number of changes.

The Trust found that “Radio 2’s reach remains considerably lower than average among black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) audiences.

“While there has been some growth in reach in the last five years, the disparity with reach amongst white listeners has not reduced. As Radio 2 has a remit to serve a broad audience, we are asking it to address this disparity.”

Although Moira Stuart now presents a late-night easy listening show, the presenter line-up, which includes Chris Evans, Steve Wright and Jeremy Vine in high-profile slots, is overwhelmingly white on Britain’s most listened-to station.

You can read all the Nuts and Dolts HERE

Hey ... just for you new folks to this site ... another one you missed and again from several years ago, was the liberal plan to encourage certain people to learn how to fish. Now for those who do not know, this country is famous for it’s fishing and folks come from far away to fish crystal clear English streams and rivers. I don’t fish but was told by some who know something about it, that the chalk streams and rivers here in Hampshire, are especially well known.  The rights to fish certain areas are highly restricted and among the most expensive in the world to fish. So I’ve been told by a neighbor who belongs to a fishing club.
So anyway ....

This brilliant lefty came up with the idea that muslims and especially muslim women, should be encouraged to learn, so they too could fish the streams of England.  That would assume they got their husbands permission to leave the house of course.  It never occurs to lefties there really are cultural differences and those include taste and habits and above all, interests.

BBC - Get over Yourselves

A Fracas!

Corrosive loud mouth idiot Jeremey Clarkson suspended (yet again??) from Top Gear, the only show on BBC that actually makes them money.

Yes, but being a corrosive loud mouthed idiot is why we love him, and why the show is such a success. Take a Chill Pill, flush PC down the loo, and get out of his way.

Top Gear presenter Clarkson suspended over ‘fracas’

The BBC said it has suspended Jeremy Clarkson, the controversial host of popular motoring programme “Top Gear”, after he was involved in a “fracas” with a producer.

The outspoken 54-year-old presenter helped the show become the world’s most popular factual television programme, with 350 million viewers a week in 170 countries.

But he was on his final warning after a string of controversies including accusations he used racist language.

“Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation,” the BBC said in a statement. “No one else has been suspended.”

Magazine Radio Times said Clarkson was being accused of aiming a punch at a male producer in an incident that occurred last week but was reported to the BBC on Monday.

The broadcaster had earlier said “the BBC will be making no further comment at this time.”

No sooner had the suspension been announced than fans of Clarkson set up a petition to the BBC to re-instate him.

The online appeal, reading “We the undersigned petition the BBC to reinstate Jeremy Clarkson. Freedom to fracas”, quickly gained 30,000 signatures.

Clarkson has yet to comment on the incident, but in February he indicated he might have been unhappy with the show by tweeting:

“Wanted: new presenter for Top Gear. Applicant should be old, badly dressed and pedantic but capable of getting to work on time.”

...

“Top Gear” is one of the BBC’s biggest brands and is a major earner for the broadcaster, though it has been dogged by a series of scandals.

The show’s executive producer Andy Wilman described 2014 as “an annus horribilis” after accusations of racism and an incident in which the show’s crew were driven out of Argentina.

Protests broke out there over the number plate of a Porsche, “H982 FKL”, which was interpreted by some as a reference to the Falklands War between Britain and Argentina in 1982.

Clarkson was among those forced to abandon their vehicles after an angry crowd pelted the crew with stones, but the BBC denied the registration plate was intended as a deliberate provocation.

Most damaging for Clarkson have been accusations of racism while reciting an old nursery rhyme in leaked footage, something the presenter denied.

The show was censored by British broadcasting watchdog after a Clarkson comment as an Asian man crossed a bridge that was deemed racially offensive language by Ofcom.

“Top Gear” previously got into hot water over its depictions of Albanians, Romanians and Germans, and the BBC apologised to Mexico after the show described Mexicans as “lazy” and “feckless”.

Top Gear is one of the best things on TV, period. And Clarkson’s online essays are just as scathing and raucous. And simply superb.

I’m just relieved this was merely a fracas. Had it been a frumpus, the MOD would have been called out, and the entire cast and crew sent off to the Rainbow Ribbons Re-education Retreat.

Let’s face it, when you’ve got your own Lego kit and have shown up on Family Guy you’ve arrived and should thus be above the mundane BS that rules the rest of us little people.

What a bunch of berks.

Standing Alone Against The Green Menace

Muslims Warning Britain Not To Insult Mohammed With Cartoons

image

Ten thousand Muslims are protesting outside Downing Street and the Ministry of Defence against the publication of cartoons depicting Mohammed. The cartoons – which led to the brutal massacre at the French magazine Charlie Hebdo – were described by the group as a “violation of Islamic law”.

The crowd held banners saying “Charlie and the abuse factory” and “learn some manners” as they called for the world to observe Muslim blasphemy rules. The group taunted the grieving families and supporters of the murdered Charlie Hebdo journalists by using the “#JeSuisCharlie” hashtag to tweet pictures of the rally.

Men and women were divided within the protest as they waved a huge “Be Careful With The Prophet” banner close to the Cenotaph. The sign was widely taken as a direct threat to British military forces, whose lives are commemorated at the memorial.

The protest was organised by the Muslim Action Forum (MAF), which said that the Charlie Hebdo cartoons had helped “sow the seeds of hatred” and had damaged community relations.

The video blogger Pat Condell, who is known for his criticism of Islam responded to the protests by saying: “Their religion’s responsible for so much evil, yet all they can protest about is cartoons. Contemptible.”

Whilst around ten thousand Muslims attended the protest a total of one hundred thousand signed a petition that was handed in to number 10 Downing Street. It says the production of cartoons of Mohammed are “an affront to the norms of civilised society”.

Unmentioned in this, or most other news articles, is that this protest (which may have had only 3,000 attendees) did have a counter protest. 30 or so bold volunteers from the “radical far right” group Britain First spoke up for actual freedom, and an actually free Britain. They were kept well corralled by the police.

i don’t think i’d be very happy in school in these times. wasn’t thrilled in my time either tho

One of my life complaints, expressed bitterly at times, is the way our language has not so much changed, as how often it’s been raped.  Can I use that term?
Once upon a time, the word colored, or coloured if spelled Brit fashion, was no more a racial slur than the word gay. The ‘G’ word has been stolen and the ‘C’ word has been assassinated.  Colored is a no, no these days.  Not only that, but the word gay which I’ve seen spelled with the ‘g’ in caps, can also mean something trashy, unwanted or dumb.
As in, “oh don’t be so gay”.  Or, “That’s really gay” meaning gross or bad. And that my friends, is an unacceptable use of the word gay these days.

Granted, it’s the very young who have used the ‘g’ word in that manner, and it must be stamped out, according to lefty teachers and OFSTED, (Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills)

I know I am not the Lone Ranger in lamenting the changes in some of our words.  People have complained from one generation to the next for a hundred years about language change.
I’d bet if we could go back to the time of England’s Henry V111, we might not understand the English spoken then. Or even in a much later period. Language evolves. I get that.  Anyway, the court of the king and the aristocrats of that day would most likely have been speaking Norman French, the indigenous Saxons were speaking what would evolve into English, as I understand it.

I hate all these new ‘phobias’ that are so popular too.  I think some things are made up as the politically correct left move along, telling us what is and is not acceptable language and expression.

Which brings me at long last to the following.

Ofsted guidance at the heart of a major row over ‘inappropriate’ questions fired at primary pupils can be revealed for the first time today.

For years inspectors have been internally briefed that they can quiz pupils aged four to 11 about the word ‘gay’ and same-sex families, it has emerged.

They have been told to ask young children if classmates are ever picked on for not behaving like a ‘typical girl’ or a ‘typical boy’. And since 2013 Ofsted briefings have also urged inspectors to tackle ‘transphobic’ bullying, by asking primary children if they think someone ‘born a girl who would rather be a boy, or born a boy who would like to be a girl’ would feel safe at their school.

Ofsted has repeatedly denied that youngsters have been questioned about ‘inappropriate’ topics since the introduction of new rules last year requiring schools to promote ‘British’ values.

Last week, Sir Michael Wilshaw, the chief inspector of schools, told the Commons’ education select committee that he had conducted a ‘thorough’ investigation into claims children were asked inappropriate questions and found them to be false.

But as early as January 2012, the schools watchdog published a briefing for inspectors, telling them they could quiz primary pupils about aspects of homophobic bullying such as the use of the word ‘gay’ in school.

In September 2013, the watchdog produced a new document, Exploring The School’s Actions to Prevent and Tackle Homophobic and Transphobic Bullying, which endorses asking primary pupils wide-ranging questions about homosexuality and transgender.

It is also alleged a girl of around 12 was asked if she was a virgin.

image

continue

Good grief!

Now there’s “transphobic?” Transphobic?

Get me outta here.

der Führer, angela merkel speaks. Heil merkel. doesn’t have that ring to it. heil angela? nah.

There are jihad volunteers from almost every European country fighting for aq. and isis.  As well, there are many native born muslims fighting as terrorists also.
A very few have joined up to fight the jihadists, but not in enough numbers to matter a lot and certainly not enough to make a major news story.

So then, authorities know and the media has reported on these folks. More than once. It isn’t news anymore.

But …

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has come under attack for an interview recently, in which he spoke poorly of Britain’s experiment with politically correct multi culture AND,
he described the sort of vermin (my word not his) as a 5th column.
Which of course I have banged on about for years.  Not that it took any brains to work it out.  Just eyes and ears.  It was like, E + E = 5th column.
Not only did libtards jump on his case, but so too did a few conservative (lite) people including that weak fish prime minister “Call me Dave” Cameron, who is afraid, very afraid, of Nigel Farage and UKIP.

The msm which is usually a step or two behind most of the public really dumped on him with headlines like:

Farage’s exploitation of the Charlie Hebdo murders is a new low

The Ukip leader’s attack on multiculturalism is a demonstration of his malign intent.

And here it is Jan 13 as I write this and the left is still harping on his remarks.

In country after country over here, there are thousands of ordinary folks who are speaking out against the failed experiment forced on them, which has opened the flood gates of multi culture hell imposed on them in the form of open door immigration and refugee status.  Europe is being swamped by islamists, refugees from turd world countries many, in fact most, with no skills and no desire to integrate as have past migrants. Another group that has spread its poison all over Europe are the Romas, who are nothing less than professional thieves.

In Germany, upwards of 25,000 people have demonstrated in Dresden, and those marches and demos, I have recently learned, have been going on for a month or more.

Sadly, it is also reported that at least 100,000 Germans have demonstrated against the anti immigration group.
Germany’s head of state, Angela Merkel said yesterday, and this is a direct quote,

“Islam belongs to Germany”.

She repudiates the anti immigration protest.  Yeah well, with that kind of thinking, she should have said Germany belongs to islam.  Because that’s where the country is headed if the bed wetting, pant pissing, bleeding heart hand wringers have their way.
The country will be lost along with all of Europe.  And folks are aware but of course, the real reason they are demonstrating and protesting isn’t simply immigration. Nah.
It’s cos they are all racists and bigots and evil people.

I really am so sick and tired of the BS.

interesting bit of lunacy from the libtard left which will call the shots on hiring actors

Please, please tell me we haven’t gotten this stupid in the USA. Yet.

You might want to read all of this which continues at the link, for the laffs if nothing else.  Not there is anything really funny about it.

They aren’t exactly calling it quotas but, a rose by any other name and all that.
OK so, room must be made for more lesbian, gay, blacks, transgender, and even handicapped actors. I didn’t know there were any.  I mean, roles might be a bit limited, wouldn’t ya think?  Whose writing scripts for that group? This can get complicated.  How many transgender actors are there who’ve been denied jobs for that reason?

Reaction anyone?

Channel 4 issues strict diversity guidelines - and executives will lose bonuses if programmes miss them

Targets require more women, black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) people and the disabled to be given leading roles

Channel 4 executives will find their bonus payments cut if they fail to meet radical new diversity targets which require women, black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) people and the disabled to be given leading roles across all of its programmes.

A new Diversity Charter launched by the broadcaster includes a pledge that 20 per cent of all staff will be BAME by 2020, up from a current level of 15 per cent.  In addition:

6 per cent of the workforce will be lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT), up from 2.4 per cent.

New commissioning diversity guidelines require Channel 4’s drama and comedies to include at least one lead character from an ethnic minority, LGBT or disabled background.

Programme makers must ensure 50 per cent of the lead roles are female, if no other minority groups feature.

Drama and comedies must “reflect the experiences of under-represented groups” in modern Britain in order to qualify for a YES which will be ticked in a YES/NO diversity box when programmes are being commissioned.

Entertainment shows - such as panel shows – must demonstrate, across a series, 25 per cent female on-screen representation as well as a minimum of 15 per cent guests or presenters who are LGBT, ethnic minority, disabled or “another underrepresented group.”

The statistical on-screen diversity targets become decisive if a commission has failed to satisfy another set of requirements such as giving airtime to underrepresented groups.
Executives who fail to demonstrate that they have actively worked to hit the ambitious diversity targets which Channel 4 has set itself will find the “variable pay” - or bonus – element of their salaries cut.

“It will be a black mark against that person,” said David Abraham, the Channel 4 chief executive, at a Parliamentary launch of the charter, which was endorsed by Ed Vaizey, the Communications Minister.

Senior executives, including Jay Hunt, Channel 4’s chief creative officer, can add 20 per cent to their salaries through bonus pay, while general staff are entitled to an extra 10 per cent depending on performance.

Mr Abraham could lose up to an additional 30 per cent of his salary if he failed to meet his own targets.

Channel 4 programmes which meet the diversity requirements include Cucumber, Russell T Davies’s new drama about contemporary gay life (LGBT characters and reflects “communities in modern Britain”) and comedy series The Last Leg (featuring disabled comedy performers).

Whilst Channel 4 might have difficulties launching a predominantly white period drama like Downton Abbey, its new epic saga, Indian Summers, set in the Himalayan foothills in 1932 will qualify.

“It is positive action, not positive discrimination”.

The commitments extend to factual programmes, such as Educating Yorkshire, which must feature ethnic minority or LGBT contributors as well as off-screen roles – 15 per cent of the production team in scripted shows should be from an ethnic minority or have a disability.

Mr Abraham said the targets, backed by a new £5m investment, had legal backing – “It is positive action, not positive discrimination”.

Oona King, the former Labour MP who is now Channel 4’s diversity executive, drew up the Diversity Charter after discovering that there were fewer BAME people working in television now than 5 years ago. Previous diversity initiatives had failed because they were not backed up incentives, like hitting executives in the pocket, she admitted.

Channel 4 said that “young white people from low income families outside London” should also be considered “underrepresented” groups, so that award-winning actors don’t routinely emerge from a “golden circle.”

Part of a two day celebration in honor of a bridge. Drew will appreciate this.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge, spanning the picturesque Avon Gorge, is the symbol of the city of Bristol. For almost 150 years this Grade I listed structure has attracted visitors from all over the world.

image

Ten of thousands of people have attended a spectacular fireworks display in Bristol to mark 150 years of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The display was part of a two-day celebration for Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s structure, which joins Bristol to North Somerset and was designed by the engineer in 1829.

The bridge joins Bristol and North Somerset and is owned and operated by Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust. It is entirely funded by tolls - which have paid for its upkeep since it first opened to the public on 8th December 1864. We are open and manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year.

What The Fawkes?

In which a Yank shows off his dangerously thin understanding of English History, and asks a seemingly obvious, yet perhaps amazingly stupid question ...

image

Ok, so they’ve just had Guy Fawkes Day in England. Every November 5th, they have big bonfires and fireworks to recall the failure of The Gunpowder Plot, one of the first acts of terrorism.

In 1605, for reasons of religious intolerance, Guy Fawkes and his conspirators tried to take over the country by blowing up King James I and his Parliament. A huge amount of black powder was hidden below Parliament. 100 barrels - firkins and hogsheads - amounting to a couple tons worth of boom dust. But too many plotters spoil the plot, and somebody ratted them out. Caught at the very last second, Fawkes held up under torture for two days before giving away his fellow conspirators, all of whom had fled. But they were tracked down, and died in a big shootout. Something like that. Only Fawkes was tried, and for his traitorous act was sentenced to be hanged, drawn, and quartered. He cheated the hangman, but not Death, by leaping off the gallows once the noose was on him, snapping his own neck and dying. But they chopped him into bits anyway.

Right. So the Crown has a big investigation afterwards, rather like our 9/11 Commission, and it turns out that, gosh whaddya know, the gunpowder never would have gone off, because “it was decayed”.

Decayed? Black powder is not a chemical compound. It’s just a mixture. Potassium Nitrate (aka Saltpeter), Charcoal, and Sulfur. All ground fine and mixed. But each ingredient has different specific gravity, so over time the powder will un-mix, with the heaviest part, the saltpeter, filtering out to the bottom.

PROBLEM. This un-mixing stuff had been known about since forever. The Plot was in 1605 - the early 17th century. Gunpowder had been in use since the middle 14th century, the 1300s. The separation problem had long been solved by the additional step in manufacturing called “corning”. The smallest spark or bit of static electricity can light off dry gunpowder, and mixing it around and around and around in a big vat could probably build up some static. Not safe. So the survivors - the smart powder makers - added a bit of water or some horse urine to the mix, which dampened things enough, and then mixed up a nice batter. Into loaves called mill cakes. Which were then squeezed through a sieve, just like a Play-Doh Factory, with nippers on the output end cutting the “spaghetti” into uniformly sized little bits, which were then laid out to dry. And the result gives you uniform grains, which all burn at the same rate. And once corned, the powder never un-mixes. And that was how gunpowder was made, made everywhere, always, since 100 years or more before Columbus set sail.

So how did Fawkes’ gunpowder decay? It couldn’t have. It was corned. And stored in firkins, of the barrel maker’s art. So it was dry too. Sure, a minor technical detail. But a detail that shows how the king and his MPs were never really in any danger to begin with. Furthermore, gunpowder manufacture was nearly a government monopoly, or under strict government control, from the very beginning.

Or was the “it was decayed” line a story, just like our FBI and how they immediately declare everything to be workplace violence, not terrorism, and certainly not affiliated with Al Qaeda in any way shape or form?

PS - I think we ought to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day here in the USA as well. Because if he had succeeded, there would have been a huge backlash against Catholics in England. A total pogrom. And in that pogrom, radical Protestant groups would be more tolerated, possibly even become mainstream. Edge groups, belligerent outcasts like the Puritans. Who, suddenly finding themselves accepted and popular, may have had no reason to run off to Holland and then to America. And while that would have kept several women safe from being burned as witches, any America that later formed would have been without our natural cussed attitude of “my faith is my business, screw you” we have ensconced in the First Amendment. Because those Pilgrims really were some intolerant bastiges. It was their way or the highway. Which is why colonial expansion in New England happened in the first place. Rhode Island, Connecticut, down east Long Island, etc. All settled because different flavors of the same faith couldn’t get along.

LITTLEJOHN ON AMERICA AND THE TEA PARTY. A GOOD READ AND SEE THE LINK FOR ALL

I won’t post it all as not all will relate to an American reader.
But the following MUST be posted and I think many perhaps all will find favour in Littlejohn’s take on America and the Tea Party.

I hope you will visit the site at the link. Some interesting photos and video explain much re. the good Brits.
Trust me, they aren’t all like that unwashed looking foul mouthed anti capitalist who also owns a million dollar home in Calif. And why the druggie bastard is ever allowed in our country is beyond my understanding I will never see my country again, as my wife can’t come over even if her health allowed.  So yes. I’m bitter on more than one level.

Read on.

RICHARD LITTLEJOHN on the magnificent millions paying silent tribute at the Tower of London - while selfish anarchists bring chaos to the heart of the capital

By Richard Littlejohn for the Daily Mail

Crowds at the Tower have exceeded all expectations and, despite long queues, visitors have behaved with great dignity and decorum. Even though thousands of people file slowly past the moat at any given time, they deliver their tribute silently, becoming almost as integral to the occasion as the poppies themselves.

The huge attendance is also a powerful rebuke to the sneering Guardian newspaper, which contemptuously dismissed this poignant tribute as a ‘Ukip-style’ memorial.  It was a reminder that the vanishing values and traditions I wrote about in my recent book, Littlejohn’s Lost World, are still out there if you care to look.

Britain remains a small ‘c’ conservative nation. Most of us are quietly patriotic, have reverence for those who serve in our armed forces and respect for others, even when we disagree.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for elements of our political class. We are ruled by out-of-touch careerists who hold the opinions of the people who pay their salaries in utter contempt.

The BBC, which is supposed to serve the nation as a whole, delights in giving a megaphone to extremists, Left-wing bigots and pseudo revolutionaries.

Increasingly, it seems we live in two Britains. One, which contains the quiet majority, is solid, self-sufficient, intent on maintaining decent standards and doing the right thing.

The other, which is small but more voluble, is selfish, intolerant, attention-seeking and determined to rip up the old order.

While millions have been paying a silent tribute at the Tower, a rabble of attention-seeking soi-disant anarchists brought chaos to Westminster, a few miles along the Thames.

Demonstrators clashed with riot police, lobbed missiles, daubed graffiti and chanted: ‘One solution, revolution!’

Oh, for heaven’s sake, grow up.

Inevitably, the repulsive Russell Brand, darling of the BBC, turned up at the demo in Trafalgar Square on the latest leg of his rolling book tour. Needless to say, he wasn’t wearing the obligatory Guy Fawkes mask adopted by the protest group, Anonymous. Brand wasn’t looking for anonymity.

Perhaps he was hoping to get arrested, which would add to his street cred and shift a few more copies of his incoherent, semi-literate ‘manifesto’ to gullible students who see him as some kind of messiah.

Don’t forget that this sexually-incontinent ‘anti-capitalist’ hypocrite with a multi-million-dollar home in Hollywood and a history of serious illegal substance abuse was consulted as an ‘expert’ witness by MPs on the Commons Home Affairs Committee looking into the legalisation of drugs.

Also gracing the demo with her presence was that mad old bat Vivienne Westwood, who has amassed a fortune making daft frocks for women with more money than brains.

Observing this country from abroad might lead some to conclude that the likes of Brand and Westwood and their gormless band of acolytes are truly representative of modern Britain.

That would be as false an impression as dismissing all Americans as selfish, gun-toting, God-bothering crazies.

Sometimes that’s the conclusion Hollywood’s limousine liberals and the Left-leaning political class who dominate Washington would prefer you to form. Like our political class, they try to impose their own prejudices and agenda on an unwilling electorate.

Every few years, the voters bite back. When Barack Obama was elected, even many of those on the Right wished him well, as America’s first black President, who could unite the nation. But they have come to realise he’s just another aloof, Leftist elitist with barely disguised disdain for ordinary people.

This week, the U.S. voted in droves for conservative candidates. Republicans reaped the benefit of the revolt and now control both houses of Congress.

But there’s no great love for the Republican leadership, either. They’re seen in Middle America as part of the problem, not the solution. It is why younger politicians such as Florida’s Marco Rubio, Texan Ted Cruz and Kentucky’s Rand Paul are now being talked up as potential presidential candidates.

All are original thinkers who enjoy the support of the Tea Party, the popular grassroots movement which arose in disgust at the antics of the political establishment.

Like Ukip, the Tea Party is caricatured as a bunch of racists hankering for the past.

On a visit to the U.S. a couple of years ago, I went to a Tea Party rally out of curiosity to hear Rubio speak. There were 5,000 people in the audience. They weren’t the mythical, cousin-marrying, cross-burning hillbillies portrayed by the mainstream media both here and in the U.S.

I met lawyers, small businessmen, teachers and stay-at-home mums, all concerned about the impact spendthrift policies pushed by professional politicians was having on their families and their future prosperity.

In Britain, they’d all be Daily Mail readers: the decent type who would once have been the backbone of the Conservative Party.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
