Commiting A Clothing Crime In UK

Britain First leader Paul Golding found guilty of harassment and wearing a political uniform

THE leader of a far-right nationalist group has been found guilty of harassing the sister of man linked to the London tube bombings this afternoon (January 5).

Britain First chairman Paul Golding was also found guilty of wearing a political uniform signifying association with a political organisation.

The trial at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard that Golding allegedly harassed Munazza Munawar from outside her home in Hepburn Close, Chafford Hundred on April 3 last year.

They wrongly thought it was the home of her brother Sajeel Shahid, who is said to have trained the ringleader of the 7/7 bombings in London.

On that day, Golding also wore a political uniform in the form of a Britain First members only jacket, which is an offence under the Public Order Act 1936.

Finding him guilty on both charges, District Judge David Woollard said: “It was a political stunt which was designed to further the cause of the party and to generate the kind of material which is later placed on the Britain First website.”

He fined him £325 for harassment and £100 for wearing the political uniform.

Statement from Britain First

Paul Golding has been found guilty of the trumped up charges of “harassment” and “wearing political uniforms”.

These ridiculous, politically motivated and heavily bias decisions bring shame upon the legal system and should worry those who genuinely desire an impartial judiciary to protect our sovereign rights.

Only a few weeks ago, hate preacher Anjem Choudary won the right to preach his bile in public despite a long list of arrests and links to terrorism.

Today, Paul Golding was found guilty of knocking on a terrorist’s door - you couldn’t make it up.

There was a key admission from a witness statement today in that a neighbour admitted and confirmed that terror boss Sajeel Shahid regularly attended the address in question.

Nevertheless, Paul Golding was still found guilty.

On the uniforms charge (only the third conviction since 1936) the judge even asked the prosecution if someone wearing a Conservative T-shirt could now be found guilty of breaking the law.

The icing on the cake, however, was the judge’s adamant refusal to even consider slapping an ASBO on Paul, which he rejected out of hand.

The judge even went as far as to describe the ridiculous and oppressive terms of the ASBO as “extreme”.

An ASBO - Anti-Social Behavior Order - is something like a judicial Time Out. It’s akin to an official finger wagging and a frown, and carries less legal weight than even a restraining order.

Free expression be damned; in the UK, even your clothing is a crime if “we” don’t like what it says. Right, even if the “political expression” is merely a symbol, not even a statement or a slogan. Just a symbol.

And you’re busted

When Britain first, at heaven’s command,

Arose from out the azure main,

This was the charter of the land,

And Guardian Angels sang this strain:

Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves!

Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

The nations not so blessed as thee

Must, in their turn, to tyrants fall,

While thou shalt flourish great and free:

The dread and envy of them all.

Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves!

Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

Turn off the lights and lock the door on your way out. It’s over, over there.

Taking CCW Too Far

Must Have Been A “Sex Shooter”: Inmate Smuggles Gun Into Prison, Internally

Rapid Fire Rimshots -

Makes me wonder if Ronco is getting into the firearms business with their new model “vag-o-matic”.

Cooter Shooter!

You should see her fast draw! Come to think of it, no, you probably shouldn’t!

If a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, what’s a bird worth with one in the bush?

{ancient punchline} So he says, “Flashlight? Oh hell if you can find your flashlight we can find my truck keys and drive home!”

Was that a “piece"-maker?

When they said to carry it cocked and locked, this is not what they meant!

New Mexico woman smuggles gun into jail in genitals, ditches it in bathroom trash

She didn’t stick to her guns. [ thank goodness her guns didn’t stick to her! ]

A New Mexico woman smuggled a handgun into an Albuquerque jail in her genitals and dumped the firearm in a bathroom trash can, police said.

Josephine McAllister, 34, managed to get the firearm past at least four officers who searched her while booking her on stolen credit card charges Dec. 16, police said.

She ditched the gun in the Metropolitan Detention Center bathroom as soon as she could, police said.

An inmate discovered the contraband while taking out the trash and alerted jail officials.

McAllister, who was high on heroin, told police she did not hand the gun over out of fear she would get in more trouble,

EWWW. Still, coulda been worse. She could’ve brought a spare hi-cap magazine in next to it too.

You Are So Grounded

Salty Sailors Snag Solent Sandbar, Save Slipping Ship

image

Loaded with a cargo of 1400 $400,000 Bentleys and other vehicles, the carrier ship MV Hoegh Osaka put out from Southampton England bound for Germany. The ship quickly developed a dangerous list to port. Fearing an imminent capsize, captain and crew slid the massive 51,770 tonne vessel up onto Bramble Bank in a superb feat of aquatic parallel parking in the middle of the night just a couple miles from the Isle of Wight.  British Coast Guard (MCA) and lifeboat crews (RNLI) plucked all 25 crew members from the stricken ship with only a few minor injuries. The ship is not leaking anything, and will be refloated soon.

image

A car transporter ship was grounded in the Solent deliberately after it began to list, its owners have said. The Hoegh Osaka was run aground off the Isle of Wight on Saturday evening after developing problems once it had left Southampton, Ingar Skiaker, chief executive of Hoegh Autoliners said.

The ship is now listing at more than 50 degrees and a salvage operation is expected to take several days. However, no oil is thought to have leaked from the ship.  Mr Skiaker said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the accident and thanked the rescue teams who took all 25 crew on board to safety.

He said two crew members had been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The 51,000-ton MV Hoegh Osaka, with 1,400 high-end vehicles on board, got stuck on Saturday on the three-mile long sandbank.  The ship’s owners, Norwegian firm Hoegh, said the captain had acted to prevent the giant tanker from overturning.

CEO Ingar Skiaker said: “Our vessel developed a severe list shortly after she left port and the pilot and the master took the decision to save the vessel and its crew by grounding her on the bank. This showed great skill and seamanship.”

The ship was carrying a large fleet of expensive cars - including Bentleys worth up to £237,500 each - from Southampton to Bremerhaven in Germany. A coastguard helicopter and three lifeboats plucked 25 crewmen from the 590ft-long ship, which ran aground on Bramble Bank in the Solent.

more video here

The Hoegh Osaka is a ship that could have been designed by Noah; it’s a blunt ended floating box 590 feet long and 105 feet wide that needs 51.5 feet of water depth just to float. Built in 2000 as the MV Maersk Wind, a single 19,100hp engine can push her to over 19 knots.

It’s nice to see a bit of shipping news with a happy ending. Between war, weather, odd design, or just ill fate, so many ships are just bombed, burned, bashed, or sunk in a heartbeat with all hands.

up to 20,000 concerned Germans protest today against islam takeover. 3 cheers for them.

Lebanese patience and sympathy for Syrian refugees is running out fast.
And the Lebanese aren’t alone.

(Reuters) - Syrian refugees across the Middle East, some in exile for a fourth winter, face freezing temperatures, hunger and increasing hostility from locals as governments struggle to cope with the humanitarian crisis.

Lebanon and Jordan are tightening their borders to stem the flow of those trying to escape whilst in Turkey, widely praised for hosting around half Syria’s estimated 3.2 million refugees, the influx threatens to upset the country’s delicate social balance.

Crouched in a dank, bitterly cold room in the Haci Bayram district of Ankara, 30 year-old Hussein al-Abdullah wonders if it might have been better for him and his four children to have died at home in Aleppo than move to Turkey for a life of poverty and exclusion.

“Things are getting more separate between Turks and Syrians. No-one has the patience to deal with each other anymore,” he said, before checking on his car in the street below. Three days previously someone put a brick through the windscreen.

Such hostility between local and refugee populations is growing across the region. Attacks against Syrians have surged in Lebanon, where refugees make up a quarter of the population,

continues

Meanwhile, in Germany the protest against the Islamic takeover of their country grows in ever increasing numbers. Of course, who listens to the average citizen anyway. Besides, they’re all raaaaaaascists anyway.
Germany’s head of state, Angela Merkel, says supporters of a new movement against immigration is carried out by people with, “hatred in their hearts”.

Oh gee. Really? I wonder why.  Couldn’t be that thousands of Germans who aren’t Nazis, are as worried about what is happening in their country, as a growing number of folks in other European countries are.  But then again, they’re all islamophobic bigots and race haters.  Which could be true but one has to ask, what exactly made em that way?  Did they simply wake up one day and decide to hate some particular group that wasn’t like them?  Or are other things at play?  Best not to ask, and follow the politicians with heads buried in the sand.
Must say though, it was encouraging and heartening to read that upwards of 20,000 Germans have held protests, and even some good patriotic kids have given a few muzzies what for.  If enough become the subject of violent attacks, perhaps there might be an exodus which is long overdue.
Of course one big worry is, would all the rest come here?
I read and hear on the news, that country after country is experiencing a backlash against what they fear is a very real threat.

Of much further interest btw, is this report that says an attack on some muslims was applauded by normal bystanders in a shopping mall.
Good for them and here’s the story.

Pegida, whose initials stand for “Patriotic Europeans against Islamisation of the Occident”, is anticipating at least 20,000 attendees at its ninth mass protest rally in the eastern city of Dresden and other German provincial capitals, including Cologne, today.

“The attack was applauded by normal bystanders”

German protesters from anti-Islamic ‘Pegida’ movement attack migrant youths.

As Germany prepares for further mass street demonstrations by the controversial anti-Islam protest movement “Pegida”, disturbing evidence has emerged linking the group’s supporters to a brutal knife and club attack on migrant youths.

Pegida, whose initials stand for “Patriotic Europeans against Islamisation of the Occident”, is anticipating at least 20,000 attendees at its ninth mass protest rally in the eastern city of Dresden and other German provincial capitals, including Cologne, on Monday.

Dresden police said on Sunday that they were investigating an incident which was said to have taken place immediately after a 17,500-strong Pegida rally in the city on 22 December. Berlin’s leftist Taz newspaper said that shortly after the protest, a group of some 50 masked and armed Pegida supporters stormed the city’s Galeria shopping mall and attacked a group of 30 migrant youths.

“The attack was applauded by normal bystanders,” Hmmm… Let’s see the alleged PEGIDA members are described as a “Gang” while the “Migrant Yutes” are described as a “Group”, isn’t that an odd bit of phraseology. What might the “Migrant Yutes” have been up to before hand that caused “Normal Bystanders” to applaud the actions of PEGIDA? Doesn’t it seem odd that a “Group” of 30 would decide to go shopping in a mall together?
This incident didn’t happen in a vacuum and I suggest you take any reporting on PEGIDA by the MSM with a very large grain of salt.  The MSM has gone out of their way to tar them, even resorting to interviewing a fake racist who turned out to be an MSM reporter, naturally. Do note that the independent had the decency to point out that its source for this story was a local left wing rag.

Moving To Greener Acres

image

Donna Douglas, who played hillbilly bombshell Elly May Clampett on the baby-boomer-beloved 1960s sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies, has died. She was 82.

Charlene Smith, her niece-in-law, confirmed Friday to USA TODAY that she died of pancreatic cancer on New Year’s Day at Baton Rouge General Hospital, near her home in Zachary, La.

The Baton Rouge paper, The Advocate and other media outlets, including local TV station WAFB, also confirmed her death, although most put her age at 81.

“She was 82,” Smith said firmly, adding jokingly, “She’s going to haunt me for that.”

Douglas’ death leaves only one member of the show’s original cast still alive: Max Baer Jr., who played Elly May’s cousin, Jethro. He is 77.

“She was Elly May until the day she died,” Baer told the website RumorFix. “When I saw her for autograph signings or other gatherings, she always dressed the same with pink or blue” and of course those signature pigtails.”

He said he last saw Douglas in January 2013 for an autograph signing in Los Angeles. He said she had pancreatic cancer for the last months of her life.

“But she was a very private person — nothing like me.” A friend told him Donna had a message for him: “Tell Maxie I thought I was going to get better.”

Smith described Douglas as a “very good Christian lady. We all loved her,” she said. “Whenever she gave presents, they always came with (passages) from Scripture.”

Douglas, a former Miss Baton Rouge and Miss New Orleans, was born in Pride, La., and returned to live in Zachary, after her time in Hollywood, to be near her only child, son Danny Bourgeois. She is survived by him, by three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother and other extended family members, Smith said.

...

Douglas grew up in Pride and attended a local Catholic high school, where she played softball and basketball, and was a member of the school’s first graduating class.

But she’ll always be known as Elly May — the tomboy-but-sweetly sexy blond Clampett daughter who never seemed to be aware of her effect on men, and who referred to their Beverly Hills mansion swimming pool as the “SEE-ment pond.”

...

After Hillbillies ended, Douglas worked in real estate, recorded country and gospel music albums and wrote a book for children that drew on biblical themes.

In 2010 she sued CBS and toymaker Mattel seeking some of the proceeds from sales of a Barbie doll that used Elly May’s name and likeness. The suit was settled in 2011.

Scoring Spike

A little bit of bowling blogging, which Rich K loves so well.

The Low Margin Line

I’ve been using a different throw for the past few weeks. Instead of trying for an “out and back” kind of hook that moves out lots of boards, I’m doing a “down and in” kind of toss that bellies out just a handful of boards. It takes a slow and low approach, with a gentle swing. This might sound like lazy bowling, but it isn’t; I have to concentrate fiercely - almost hypnotically - on keeping my shoulders square and loose, on swinging straight through and not “slanging” my arm around, on getting the finger snick at the end just so, and most importantly, totally zoning in on the dime-sized spot out on the arrows where I want my ball to go. And when all these pieces come together, it works.

It really works. My high games have spiked 20+ pins. I’ve been throwing at least one 220+ game a night. Last week I threw 2 games in the 230s. Last night I threw 223 for the first game. Ok, last night I also screwed the pooch in Game 2, wrenching my back a little and messing myself up, which resulted in a 116, which is a terrible score. I recovered in Game 3, throwing 10 over average, and we did manage to win Games 1 and 3 and to take wood, so we got 5 points for the night. But we should have had all 7, and it’s pretty much all my fault. But the regularity of the higher scores mean I’m getting better at being more precise, and doing it more frequently. Which is great, but now I have to analyze whether that’s wasted effort or not in terms of the big picture.

And that brings me to the title of this little post, because the truth is, the only real difference between my Game 1 and Game 2 was perhaps 1/2”. But it was 1/2” on every throw. A little wide, a tiny bit high, a bit flat, a tad inside or outside my mark ... yadda yadda. And what had been strike after strike after strike in Game 1 became a shit-pile of splits, crappy leaves, dead 10s, and other ugly yuck. Thankfully, I am glad to say that this didn’t upset me at all. No pouting or frustration. It was more of a “now, how is this happening?” thing. And I think the answer is that I’d rolled the line out in just 1 game (other bowlers may have been using that line or parts of it) and had to chase the oil around for a while. And when I did that, bam bam, I was back in business, though not quite as hot as I was to start. And this is why I’m calling it a low margin line. The throw works great, but it has to be exactly exact. Precisely precise. Every throw the same, with less than 1/4 of a board’s difference from one end of the 60 foot lane to the other. And I’m not yet that much of a machine.

So what I think might be better, is more of a cranker kind of philosophy for the throw: rev it up and slide it into an area, where it will bite hard and come back and cover the pocket angles, whether shallow and high from a late break, or broad and low from an early break or a wide throw out to the edge. And, dagnabit, that takes me right back to my never ending inability to put enough rev on the ball. I don’t know how people do it, I’ve been watching and asking for years. Bent wrist, under the ball, palm roll to the inside, finger snick, or somehow magically pull you thumb from the ball early and then do all the stuff I just mentioned, and somehow not have the ball dive bomb itself right off my hand into the approach so hard that it bounces out onto the lane like a friggin basketball. Because that’s what “get your thumb out” means to me - that ball is about to go somewhere, and go there hard, where it ain’t supposed to be. All I really want is to find a shot that works, and holds for a couple frames when the oil starts to shift, and will also work when the line is a board or two plus or minus. Fast or slow a touch. Some margin. You know what I mean.

Happy Belated Birthday Rich K

Happy Birthday Rich K

Ok, it’s a day late. Not that we’re ignoring him, it’s just that we didn’t know. And no, I don’t always read all the comments every day.

So what can I do? It’s not like he put his b-day in his member profile or anything like that. [cough cough]

Right then. The old buzzard admits to being 59, so to help keep him off his rocker (where he seems to be usually) but to provide some stability, we’re sending him a really great birthday tip.

image

Party on, birthday dude!

Maybe we should get him something to help him feel a bit younger.

Liberalism In A Nutsthell

Today’s Day By Day comic strip ... among the most offense things I’ve ever read.

image

In case you don’t follow the comic ... at this point, Skye’s twins from her old relationship with Anatoly are toddlers, and she long ago put the screws to him by telling him that the kids weren’t his to begin with, that he was sterile due to Chernobyl.

I wish Muir’s archives were complete, so I could follow one storyline from the beginning. Alas not yet.

The point is, little sister Skye lives in a liberal fantasy land, where the truth changes to suit her moods, but to allow her to always be the victim. And now this? Moonbat!

Heartless Aqua Coyotes Do It Again

Ship full of migrants abandoned by smugglers towed to Italy

Politically Correct much? “migrants”, aka a boatload of illegal aliens, being smuggled into Italy. Again. This time, the boats aren’t coming up from North Africa, but instead coming West from Turkey or Syria. And this is now the second ship full where the smugglers have used a truly vile MO: get the boat somewhere near the coast, then abandon it. Screw the passengers and run; leave it to the Italian Navy or other patrolling safety/security force to try to rescue everyone before they sink or wreck.

There needs to be a better name for this kind of human scum than “aqua coyotes”, but that was all I could come up with on the spot. Pirates of some kind, no doubt. Attempted mass murderers by deliberate negligence. Really heartless bastards; you’d think they were trying out for ISIS.

ROME – An Icelandic Coast Guard ship was towing a cargo vessel to Italy Friday with about 450 migrants who were abandoned by smugglers, leaving the vessel in rough seas without a crew, authorities said Friday.

Italian Coast Guard Cmdr. Filippo Marini said that after several hours of struggling, Italian rescue teams shortly before dawn managed to secure the wave-tossed Ezadeen for towing toward the southern Calabrian region. The Icelandic ship Tyr, part of a European new European patrol force to detect and aid migrants at sea, was doing the towing.

Children and pregnant women were among the migrants, most of who were believed to be Syrian, said Marini. The Sierra-Leone-flagged cargo ship apparently set sail from Turkey, he said.

image

how ironic, the MV Ezadeen was built as a cattle hauler

The Ezadeen, sailing under the flag of Sierra Leone, lost power in rough seas overnight off the south-east of Italy.

A total of 796 migrants were rescued from another ship found abandoned without any crew earlier in the week.

Italian coast guard Cmdr Filippo Marini told reporters that the vessel was being towed by an Icelandic ship that is part of the EU Frontex border control mission.

Children and pregnant women were among the migrants, most of whom were believed to be Syrian, Mr Marini said.

He added that the 73-metre (240ft) Ezadeen was believed to have set sail from Turkey, although earlier reports suggested it was sailing from Cyprus.

The alarm was raised in a distress call from one of the migrants using the maritime radio on board, who told the Italian coastguard: “We’re without crew, we’re heading toward the Italian coast and we have no-one to steer.”

The Ezadeen was built nearly 50 years ago and is a livestock carrier. It appears to be registered to a Lebanese company and has come under the control of human traffickers.

The Ezadeen is the latest uncrewed ship full of would-be migrants to be left to drift to its fate in the Mediterranean Sea.

People-traffickers appear to be behind the phenomenon and one source with close knowledge of the rescue operations is concerned that it “seems to be something of a new trend”.

God willing, there’s a special kind of Hell for people like this.

UPDATE
The ship has been safely towed into port in Southern Italy.

Notes In Passing

I’ve had a bit of writer’s block the past couple of weeks. Well, actually, it’s been more of a time block than anything. Holidays, relatives, shopping, visiting. All kinds of time constraints. I never realize just how much time this blog consumes until other things pop up and eat that time, and my internet surfing and story research time shrinks to nearly nothing.

I just saw the news, probably 14 hours old, that former NY governor Mario Cuomo has died. He was 82. He was very much a Liberal’s Liberal.

I just saw the news that bodies are being recovered from lost AirAsia flight 8501, some of them still strapped into their seats. I don’t think the black boxes have been found yet, but if Search & Rescue is finding bodies and wreckage, perhaps it’s only a matter of time. Right now the theory is that the plane stalled trying to climb out of a thunderstorm, but with those storms you always have to remember the intense updrafts and downdrafts. We can build the most wonderful airplanes ever, but nothing can outfox Mother Nature. Say a prayer for all these poor lost souls.

After nearly a week of searching for the victims of AirAsia Flight 8501, rescue teams battling monsoon rains had their most successful day yet on Friday, more than tripling the number of bodies pulled from the Java Sea so far. An Indonesian navy official said some of the dead were still strapped to their seats.

Of the 30 corpses recovered in total, 21 were found on Friday, many of them by a U.S. Navy ship, according to officials.

The Airbus A320 carrying 162 passengers and crew went down Sunday, halfway into a flight from Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, to Singapore. Minutes before losing contact, the pilot told air-traffic control he was approaching threatening clouds, but was denied permission to climb to a higher altitude because of heavy air traffic.

It remains unclear what caused it to plunge into the sea, but CBS News’ Allen Pizzey reports that investigators are working on the principal that the pilots attempted a steep climb anyway, to avoid the weather, which could have stalled the jet’s engines.

Col. Yayan Sofiyan, commander of the warship Bung Tomo, told MetroTV five bodies pulled in by his crew were still fastened in their seats.

I’ll do what I can to update these stories, and to steal time when I can to get back to some decent posting.

happy new year

I got nothing.

I won’t be able to post much until Monday. And it isn’t even Thursday yet.  Gak.

So I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year.  I suppose I’ll stay up and watch the stuff on TV, but I could care less, really. I really haven’t had anyone to have a New Year’s party with since 1982, so it’s never been any kind of event for me.

ending the year as we started. seems nothin’ changes but the names. when u can spell them.

Apparently the year will end as it started.
Stupid and moronic and controlled by lawyers who really know better.
They just don’t give a shit.

In their own way, many of em aren’t any different than Jane Fonda supping with the enemy and having a laff.

Here’s a maddening example.

From the headlines today.

Lawyers for Boston Marathon bombing “suspect” whose name I can neither spell or pronounce, have asked a judge to delay his trial because they need more time to prepare.  Yeah, like they need to hunt for evidence that the rat bastard who is still a suspect cos even when caught red handed ur innocent till ….. which in this case is bullshit and we all know it is. Anyway, the muzzie pond scum is pleading not guilty to some 30 charges related to the bombing in April of 2013.

And while I’m on the subject.  Articles all read lawyers, as in plural.
No doubt funded by the taxpayers.  Why does the worm need more than one?
Why should he have any?

I guess the folks in Boston can console themselves that at least they won’t have to pay the freight for both killers, as happily one of the brothers died in that police shootout.

Meanwhile back at the ranch.
Americans should be thankful that with whatever problems we have, the USA (so far as anyone knows) is not also plagued by this curse, the border with Mexico aside.

One of our papers report the following.

budget-flight criminals roving Europe on ‘burglary blitzes’

A new breed of travelling criminal gang is exploiting cheap flights and visa-free travel to launch “burglary blitzes” on countries including the UK, according to senior law enforcement officials.

Highly mobile groups of criminals are dodging arrest by flying in and out of European nations on short-term operations, according to the head of the European crime agency Europol. The tactic follows the blueprint of the so-called “Pink Panther” gang, a group of Balkans-based criminals responsible for raids on high-end jewellers in London from the late 1990s.

Senior officers said that groups were increasingly working with community figures already based in Western European nations to plan break-ins and launder the profits. It warned earlier this year that small groups were travelling from Albania to commit crimes across Europe before being rotated with fresh groups to reduce the risks of being caught.

“Old-fashioned crime – burglary and robberies of jewellery stores – are now happening by highly mobile criminal groups operating all round Europe,” Rob Wainwright, the director of Europol told The Independent. “It’s very traditional crime but in the past 95 per cent of housebreakers were committed within half a mile. Now you’re having Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian gangs and others from across Europe jumping on airlines and knocking off [burglaries] and almost getting back out of the country the next day.

“We have some criminal groups we’ve identified in Europe that are operating literally in every European country over a one or two-year programme, supported by a local infrastructure normally connected with individuals from the expatriate community of that criminal group.”

Scotland Yard said earlier this month that victims of trafficking were being brought over by UK-based gang leaders for weekend crime sprees targeting designer clothes shops in central London. Plane ticket records suggested that the gangs were block-booking seats on budget flights to bring over Eastern Europeans and then sending them back again within a few days.

stuck in the queue

having a small problem with the cable TV. Everything else works fine, but no On Demand. How can I do my binge viewing without my On Demand? I’ve done all their little nonsense steps - unplug the router for a minute, turn off the power for a couple minutes - but to no avail. I have internet, I have telephone, I have all the other parts of the TV, but I have no On Demand!! This is killing me, it’s the end of the world as I know it!!

Good thing I’ve gone from #250 to #187 in just a couple minutes. That means Prijay Vindaloo will be ready to chat at me in maybe half an hour or less!

Oh, the horrible First World problems we suffer, right?

Over Here, Now Over There

Ebola Visits UK

Hey, remember Ebola? Amazing how this horrible disease, in it’s worst outbreak in human history, simply dropped off the radar a couple of months ago, after total news saturation. Poof, gone. As if it never happened.

Well, it’s still with us. And it’s still raging. The death count in Africa is now nearly 7,600 from almost 20,000 reported cases, and several more health care workers have died. Perhaps worse, “somehow” a huge shipment of medical supplies burned up in Guinea.

And now another health care worker has slipped through the safety net. Sort of.

A female healthcare worker who returned to Glasgow from Sierra Leone last night has been confirmed as having Ebola.

The woman, possibly a nurse, returned to Scotland via Casablanca and London Heathrow, arriving into Glasgow Airport on a British Airways flight at around 11.30pm.

The patient - understood to have been working for Save The Children - was admitted to hospital early this morning after feeling unwell and was placed into isolation at 7.50am. She is in a stable condition.

She has been isolated and is receiving treatment in the specialist Brownlee Unit for Infectious Diseases on the Gartnavel Hospital campus, but will be taken to the Royal Free Hospital in London.

Their infectious diseases unit is run by a dedicated team of doctors and laboratory staff and access is restricted to trained medical staff.

Anyone who is at risk through contact with the patient in transit is to be contacted and closely monitored.

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has chaired a meeting of the Scottish Government Resilience Committee and has also spoken to Prime Minister David Cameron.

She said: “Our first thoughts at this time must be with the patient diagnosed with Ebola and their friends and family. I wish them a speedy recovery.

Right then. She did the right thing, but the going-home process is such that she took an all-day flight and then a goodly drive AND THEN realized she wasn’t feeling well. Maybe, maybe, maybe they ought to keep them in Africa just a tad longer?

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
