Silence
Shoes and prayer mat
2008

To name what is not named,
to show what is not shown, to bind what is remote.
My work rests on this concept and operating mode
that proceeds by transgressing what remains forbidden and undisclosed.

Zoulikha Bouabdellah

The self-imposed starting point of Zoulikha Bouabdellah’s work is to see the world in a different way. In her Silence installation, the artist presents prayer mats whose circular shape cuts draw an ‘opening’ on the ground on which rest gilded court shoes. The Islamic religion forces people to remove their shoes before taking place on the carpet that delimits the space for prayer. However, Zoulikha Bouabdellah’s installation plays with limits in order to bring us to the edge of the sacred and the profane. Muslim women stand at the threshold of these two worlds – a threshold, which according to Mircea Eliade, also determines the distance between two modes of being.

Through a rather subversive work, the artist intends to lift the veil on a woman’s relation to Islam. Between respect of the religious tradition and fantasies of westernisation, she reveals her ability to invent for herself freedom spaces within a rigid framework. In this instance, Zoulikha Bouabdellah pays a tribute to the women who are not afraid to assert themselves in order to exist, beyond the silence surrounding the prayer or the question of the female condition in the Arab world.

I’m surprised she made cut-outs in the rugs. I would have put the shoes right on them, and used these sandals and other sexy western FMPs in various colors to really stress the conflict. This work is radical in her closed world, but in ours it is as if “Piss Christ” showed Jesus standing next to a porta-potty; the idea is there, but it’s rather timid. The hole in the rugs though, I like that. An opening, an opportunity. Perhaps an escape. Plus it still adheres to their rules, and brings in the whole vagina thing. Good for her.

‘Blasphemous’ artwork removed from Paris exhibition
Artwork showing women’s shoes on Muslim prayer mats is removed from exhibition after warnings of possible violence

An artwork depicting high-heeled shoes on Islamic prayer mats has been removed from an exhibition after a Muslim group warned of possible violence in the wake of the Paris attacks.

The French-Algerian artist, Zoulikha Bouabdellah, withdrew the work from an exhibition in a northern Paris suburb with a large Muslim population after an Islamic group told local authorities it could provoke “uncontrollable, irresponsible incidents”.

It is considered disrespectful to step on Muslim prayer maps with shoes.

Ms Bouabdellah has replaced the artwork, “Silence”, previously exhibited in Paris, New York, Berlin and Madrid, with a video installation showing belly-dancing to the French national anthem, with swirling red, white and blue shawls symbolising the national flag.

The decision sparked protests from other artists who complained that freedom of expression was being undermined only weeks after 12 people were killed when gunmen attacked the office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. Another four people were killed at a kosher supermarket, and a policewoman was shot dead near a Jewish school.

Ms Bouabdellah, 37, said on Wednesday that the “lack of understanding” of her work was probably related to “heightened emotions” after the attacks.

She makes excuses for them. Self-effacing. Her response should have been to fart in their general direction and to complain that their fathers smelled of elderberries. Or worse.

PS - and so much for the UK Telegraph, which ran this story but did NOT run a picture of the artwork. Cowards

Sniper pats Moore on the head

This is brilliant! I don’t know where to start.

Let’s start at the last paragraph. If I was a hostage I WOULD want the sniper to take the shot. But, if it was Michael Moore, I wouldn’t blame the sniper for this:

So tenderfoot, I leave you with this final thought: what if you found yourself in some sort of hostage situation where you were held at knife-point by some crazed person and they were dead set on making an example of you by bleeding you out on Hollywood Blvd in front of the world, and the only way out was with the precision aimed fire of a sniper? Would you want that coward to take the shot? Because knowing how you feel about snipers such as myself and your hatred of firearms, I’d probably drop the mag, roll the bolt and go get a Jack & Coke before helping you out.

Full letter here.

Stevie vs the Imam

Know Thy Enemy

This is the rat bastige that the UK protects so well, and gives him all sorts of aid, money, and free housing? Suckers.

Also, see him on Fox last year with Sean Hannity, in “You have no choice, Sharia law is coming to a place near you.”

Hoist On Her Own Petard, I Hope

Obozo’s AG Nominee: ‘Right To Work Is Shared By Everyone In This Country Regardless’ Of Immigration Status

Like Hell it is, hamster breath!

You have to wait for Senator Windbag to finish at the very end to hear her, and I’m wondering if this wasn’t “skillfully” edited to break the context. BUT her response starts out on entirely the wrong foot, so any waffle rich verbal weasel dancing she does after the cut is just her trying to lasso smoke and call it beefsteak.

Senator Sessions, Chairman of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, questioned Attorney General Nominee Loretta Lynch at today’s Judiciary hearing to consider her nomination. Sessions asked Lynch about the President’s decision to bypass Congress to order a sweeping amnesty, and how this action undermined the rights of disadvantaged American workers.

In addition to suspending enforcement for nearly all of the 12 million individuals unlawfully present in the United States, President Obama issued an executive decree on November 20th, 2014, extending work permits, Social Security, Medicare, tax credits, and government identification to 5 million illegal immigrants and illegal visa violators. This would allow illegal immigrants to take any job in America, regardless of chronic high unemployment for Americans—including a 10.4 percent unemployment rate for African-American workers. Peter Kirsanow, a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, explained—contra AG Holder’s “breathtaking” contention that amnesty was a civil right—that unlawful amnesty for illegal immigrants violated the rights of U.S. citizens to the full protection of their laws, including those laws passed by Congress to protect their jobs and wages from illegal competition. The President’s executive edict (an edict he said previously only an Emperor would deign to issue) voids Americans’ legal protections in law, supplanting them with a new executive policy that Congress and voters have rejected, a policy which forces unemployed Americans to compete against a large and growing illegal workforce.

Damn dust! Making my eyes water.

The tides of anti-Semitism are rising again all over Europe. I really don’t understand. The Jews have never been the problem. They aren’t the problem now. It’s Islam Stupid!

Nearly 70 years after Holocaust survivor Joshua Kaufman was reunited with Daniel Gillepsie, the US soldier who rescued him from the hell he endured at the hands of the Nazis.

image

The way Europe is going we may have to do this again. Won’t be the swastika this time; it’ll be the Crescent.

When the pair met again after so many decades, Kaufman, now 87, saluted his savior, kissed his hands, and fell to his feet, exclaiming: ‘I have wanted to do this for 70 years. I love you, I love you so much...’.

Have to admit though, that would make me uncomfortable. Just retire to the nearest pub and buy me a pint?

Basic Spin At Work

BMEWS readers are a little more literate than average, but this might help if you have some Liberal acquaintances who haven’t yet drunk a lethal dose of Kool Aide.

I’m always amazed at how little most people notice the spin that’s applied to almost all news stories.  If you’re applying a little critical thinking to the words used, it becomes obvious.  I’ll swear I can tell the differences between articles from BBC, Fox News and CNN, just from the spin techniques they favor.

Here are two articles from CBS News.

In one of them, they describe an innocent man who defended himself with a gun as a murderer.  It’s right in the headline:

No charges for Calif. man in murder of home burglar

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/no-charges-for-california-man-who-killed-burglar-that-claimed-she-was-pregnant/

You like that?  If there are no charges, he’s innocent.  If he’s innocent, it’s not murder.  It’s a killing, but it’s not murder.  I understand murder as the unlawful taking of human life, don’t you?

The next article is about what may be the thrill killing of a 14 year old girl.

Three K.C. teens killed girl, 14, at water park, cops say

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/alexis-kane-murder-three-kansas-city-teens-killed-girl-14-at-water-park-cops-say/

Notice that the emotional content of the words is very flat.  Each word is a basic fact with neither adjectives nor characterization (eg. corpse vs. body).  As far as I can tell, CBS is trying to deemphasize that it’s another Black on Black murder.  In the headline, exchange the word “police” (official) or “authorities” (official with power) for “cops” (friendly, almost familiar).  The technical meanings may be almost the same, but the emotional message delivered is very different.

We have one article soft peddling a particularly brutal and senseless murder and another that tries to vilify an innocent man for shooting a woman who claimed to be pregnant (she wasn’t).  Oh yes, the man is 80 years old and had already had his bones broken before he shot anyone.

So, go over both articles and carefully note not only the accuracy of the words chosen in each one, but the emotional content of the words as well.  Homicide and murder may be almost the same, but they’re not and each carries a different emotional spin as well.  Think about it.

How many more spin examples can you pull, just from these two articles?

Questions?

Founding Charter of HAMAS

I especially like to advise, indeed even assist, Muslims to fulfill Article 8!

Article Eight: The Slogan of the Hamas
Allah is its goal, the Prophet its model, the Qur’an its Constitution, Jihad its path and death for the case of Allah its most sublime belief. emphasis added.

What do you say? Should we help the ragheads die for Allah?

Charter is here.

They Sell Insurance For This, Right?

6 Million Could Owe IRS Health Insurance  Fine Tax

As many as 6 million U.S. taxpayers will have to pay a penalty of as much as 1 percent of income because they went without health insurance in part or all of 2014, the Treasury Department said.

The penalty, part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, is designed to force people to sign up for health insurance using the expanded options and financial assistance available under Obamacare. The penalty would apply to about 2 percent to 4 percent of all taxpayers for 2014.

Tax filing for 2014 opened Jan. 20, and the Internal Revenue Service’s Form 1040—for federal income tax—includes a new Line 61 asking if the taxpayer has health insurance. Three-quarters of taxpayers won’t have to do anything more than check that box, said Mark Mazur, the department’s assistant secretary for tax policy. The remainder will have to to take additional steps, though most won’t pay a penalty, he said on a conference call with reporters.

The IRS has been preparing for additional strain during the tax season as people adjust to the rule, warning that about half the people who call its toll-free phone lines won’t be able to get through.

About 3 percent to 5 percent of taxpayers got tax credits last year to help them absorb the cost of paying premiums on Obamacare insurance plans, Mazur said. Ten percent to 20 percent weren’t insured for all or part of the year but will be able to claim an exemption. People who owe a penalty “will pay a fee because they made a choice not to obtain health insurance that they could have afforded, and they’re not eligible for one of the exemptions,” he said.

Hey, I tried for days and days, weeks even, to get through to the government website to sign up. And it never worked right. The only time I could get through to the insurance companies was after the cut-off date, and they wouldn’t take my money at that point. This year, I started applying early, and it still took me until just before the deadline to sign up and get my payment applied. This enrollment window is BS if there isn’t a pro-rated fine period that allows me to sign up after the “penalty free” period. 1/365 per day of whatever my “additional tax” might be sounds right. Because the idea is to get me to have health insurance, right? That’s what this whole thing is about, right? So why did they slam the window shut and then lock it for 11 months?

And what happens when SCOTUS rules on that state subsidy thing and those are declared UC and have to be paid back? And paid back by whom? One more worm, out of the can and now turning. I hope it has poison fangs a foot long.

This whole thing is BS from the get-go.

Save us John Boehner, save us!

Not In My Country. What About In Yours?

Doing It Wrong: Gun Range Bans Muslims

In the five months since Jan Morgan banned Muslims from her gun range in Hot Springs, Ark., business has boomed and predictions of a lawsuit brought by federal civil rights enforcers have so far proved inaccurate.

Morgan, who claims keeping Muslims out of her Gun Cave Indoor Firing Range is a matter of public safety and not a constitutional issue, says she made the decision in September after two customers she deemed suspicious visited. She said their furtive behavior and cellphone ringtones of “Allahu Akhbar” prompted her to revise her range’s policies.

“We are dealing in lethal firearms,” Morgan told FoxNews.com. “I’m not going to let a Nazi shoot in here, or a Ku Klux Klan member in here, either.”

Morgan said she excludes those she believes to be Muslim based on their names. She says business is up, but she has gotten threats, which she brushed off.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Arkansas also has petitioned federal authorities to do something about Morgan’s rules. [along with petitions from CAIR et al] Executive Director Rita Sklar told FoxNews.com Morgan’s claim the gun range was acting out of legitimate caution is a dog that doesn’t hunt.

“It’s discrimination based on religion, or, in this case, perceived religion and is a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act,” Sklar said. “It isn’t based on that person’s behavior or anything they could reliably use that could be used to bar the person from the premises.”

Sklar also said that while the ACLU chapter has not heard back yet from the DOJ, her group would be “more than happy” to proceed with legal action should a client approach them.

What say you, fellow freedom defenders and Constitutionalists? Right, or wrong?

I can understand her viewpoint. And I can appreciate her “ends”, but I don’t think this is the right “means”. It’s a public range, open to the public. Her logic isn’t right ( and this is where you smart folks make a Logic 101 remark about de Morgan’s Rules, m’kay? ).

BMEWS Consulting has a solution, pro bono. Make the range a private club, and extend the membership opportunity to whoever you want, invitation only. Join now, lifetime membership, for just $5 to cover the cost of the photo ID card. Is that legit? Or does it put us in that Atlanta Golf Club situation with their Men Only rule? What’s your solution, or is it fine to discriminate against these folks based on their names? Names like Barack Hussein Obama actually. Hey, they all looked like overweight balding Christian white guys with glasses who smoke, if you ask me. That’s makes it Ok, right? Right??

Deserter

Bergdahl Charged As Deserter

5 Terrorists for 1 Traitor? Another Great Deal By Obama

In what may prove to be a major embarrassment for the Obama administration, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was allegedly held captive by the Taliban for five years, will be charged with desertion according to retired Army Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer of the London Center for Policy Research. Shaffer told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly that sources have told him Bergdahl’s attorney has been given a “charge sheet” and that the decision has been made to pursue the charge of desertion.

“Sgt. Bergdahl will be charged with desertion” Shaffer told O’Reilly. “I have been told and confirmed by two other sources that his attorney was given what we call a charge sheet. A charge sheet is results of the investigation listing out the articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice that have been violated. The key violation is desertion. And this is has been done. The decision has been made. Let me be very clear. As a corporate entity, the Army has decided that they want to pursue Bergdahl for this violation.”

Last Week’s Missing Headline

How did I manage to miss this one? I’m sure it was on every single news channel, 24 hours a day, for a solid week.

I’m sure it was the ONLY story covered by ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX, MSNBC, WOR, WPIX, PBS, and all the rest, all day, all night.

How did I miss the hundreds and hundreds of hours of air time given to expert discussions, analysis sessions, and international opinion panels, all supporting Eric Holder and the FBI for their judgement, dedication, and reasoning powers?

[CRICKETS]

DOJ to clear Darren Wilson of civil rights charges

Federal authorities will not seek civil-rights charges against the Missouri cop who gunned down unarmed black teen Michael Brown, law-enforcement sources said Wednesday.

Former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson had already dodged state indictments in St. Louis County before the US Department of Justice found that there’s not enough evidence to prosecute him in federal court for Brown’s death.

“After a thorough review of the facts, the Justice Department came to that conclusion,” a law-enforcement source told The Post.

St. Louis County prosecutor Robert McCulloch presented evidence to a grand jury, and the panel declined to indict Wilson.

The Feds launched their own probe to see if Wilson intentionally set out to violate Brown’s civil rights. Another law-enforcement source said the FBI completed its examination and prosecutors couldn’t recommend charges.

Justice Department lawyers have already started drafting a legal memo, formally announcing their decision to not charge Wilson, The New York Times reported.

The head of a national police legal defense fund welcomed the DOJ decision – but complained that it should have come faster.

“DOJ has known from the very beginning that no violation of civil rights occurred when Officer Darren Wilson shot an aggressor, Michael Brown, in self-defense,” said Ron Hosko, president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund and a former FBI assistant director.

So, try as hard as they could, not even Eric “my people” Holder could make a case of any kind stick. Because officer Wilson was in the right the whole time, and everybody with a lick of sense knew it from the very beginning. And all the rest is bullshit.

Notice though that the media, which apparently believes they are running the nation (or just forming all public opinion, which is nearly the same), is still pushing the meme that officer Wilson has done something wrong. Even though a Missouri Grand Jury exonerated him. Even though a deep FBI investigation exonerated him. Even though the racist, petulant, putrescent puss scab that is the Attorney General took an army of T-crossers, I-dotters, and stone-turner-overs and came up with ZILCH, even so, the media still are pushing their discredited meme. “gunned down”. “unarmed teen”. “dodged indictments”. “not enough evidence” ( because ZERO is “not enough” pretty much by definition ).  All imply guilt by association, by their very use. Castigation through spin. But when the facts have shown time after time, that your opinions are false, then your surly sub-rosa susurrations become a libelous smear campaign.

Sometimes, late late at night, I almost wish for Sharia law. Not their kind. DrewSharia law. My kind. There would be public lashings for this kind of “journalism”. Because I don’t think they’re ever going to learn until they suffer significant physical pain. “Libel between the lines” gets you 50.

Not Much Yet

More than 12 hours into this big snow event thing, and we’re lucky if we’ve had an inch of snow. Inch and a half at most.

Never fear, the weather people are now using their new euro-spec CFS prediction algorithm, which might be better. Or not. So whatever, but please stand by.

Hey Mozilla Firefox Browser developer people! Know what I want as a new feature? I want “undo” to apply to tabs and windows as well. Like, if I’m working on a really great blog post, and I accidentally close the tab, I want to be able to click “undo” and get it right back, not just the tab but all the content as well. Or if I have to kill a tab real fast because of privacy, assuming I haven’t done anything else, later on I can hit undo and get the tab back and the video I was watching. You know? Kinda like the old Boss Button, only better.

I had a wicked great post almost fully built, and then WHAM!!, lost it. This is all that’s left:

“This will most likely be one of the largest blizzards in the history of New York City,” said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, who said the city had 250,000 tons of salt on hand and would have 40 percent more ambulances than usual ready to roll. He said all non-emergency vehicles would be banned from city streets from 11 p.m. until further notice.

“It is imperative that you have a plan in place to get home safely this evening before the heavy snow begins and remain there for the duration of the storm.”

- Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy

Authorities banned travel on all streets and highways in New York City and Long Island and warned that violators could be fined $300. Even food deliveries were off-limits on the streets of takeout-friendly Manhattan. The governors of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island also slapped restrictions on nonessential travel.

Right. So now the blizzard part is going to happen later than they thought. Maybe even a full day later. So I should just count my blessings so far, and ration the rum and biscuits for the next day or so.

A Lady I Once Knew

When I was a small child, there was a woman who always gave me a cookie when my Mother shopped in the bakery where the woman worked.

I can still clearly see the numbers on her arm when she extended it to give me a cookie.

My Mother got upset when I asked why the nice woman had numbers tattooed on her arm.

This woman, visiting the Auschwitz Concentration Camp on the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, reminds me very much of that lady almost 60 years ago.  Same numbers, same place, it could be her.

Hat Tip:  The Daily Mail
The children of Auschwitz

Never forget.

Never again.

bears repeating

• Communism is international Socialism.

• Nazism is racial Socialism.

• Fascism is economic Socialism.

• Socialism is big government, totalitarianism, with all sorts of handouts and control, at the expense of the individual. Period. Handouts and control, at the expense of individual liberty. Universal control at the cost of freedom.

The opposite of Nazism isn’t Communism. They are two peas in the same Socialist pod, different only by a couple shades. Their opposite is classic Liberalism, which is what America was founded on.

Classic Liberalism is centered on the freedom of the individual. This is what Tea Party Conservatives are trying to conserve. Freedom. Yours. Mine. Ours. Constitutionally bound, limited government, limited taxation.

The Left has stolen the term “liberal” and turned it inside out, and they’ve done this with such great success that they hardly even use the term any longer, having moved on to the more honest “progressive”, which is now, and has always been, the code word for Communism.

Communism, the total control of a nation, and someday the world, by a small group of special people. A commune of elitists, beyond the law and above reproach. For your own good. And everyone else is a serf. Everyone. Else. Including you.
