THE CALL TO PRAYER ON TV, SOME FOLKS ARE VERY UNHAPPY. BUT IT’S MUCH ADO REALLY

Well guys, a bit of a bru-haha. Maybe not much ha though.

Here’s the thing.  The TV station doing this is only doing it for the controversy and boy has it started, and we’re a week away from the event.

On Sundays there are a couple of religious programs on the radio.
One is called Songs of Praise and has been on air for donkey’s years.
The other I’m aware of has also been on a long time is Sunday Worship.
Both programs come from a different church or cathedral every week.
This still is (for the time being and time grows short) a Christian country.

OK so, those are just two Christian programs I’m aware of. I’m sure there are others and on TV possibly. That is not a problem.  The question now is, should it be alright and should people gripe because one TV channel has decided to air the muslim call to prayer around 3 in the morning, every morning during ram-a dumb.
Does anyone have a problem with that?  Most of us are still fast asleep at that hour, it will be on TV so nobody has to watch or listen who doesn’t want to.
In other words, it will not in any way be intrusive.

So then, here’s something from a muslim writer I thought was interesting.
Not having a TV and not missing one either, I have never seen C4 and so haven’t a clue about their broadcast habits.

A lot of people are upset about this.  I can’t see why.  With all the outlets that are purely for this group, I don’t imagine the ratings at C4 will explode and go through the roof. Whole thing sounds pretty boring.

How many Muslims will tune in to TV’s call to prayer? None

Writer reacts to outrage at C4 Ramadan announcement
By ANILA BAIG, Muslim writer

“BOYCOTT Channel 4!” “Is this a Muslim country?” “Last one to leave, turn out the lights.”
And that was just me.

Seriously, there have been many knee-jerk reactions — with emphasis on the “jerk” — to the news that Channel 4 is broadcasting the Muslim call to prayer every morning at 3am during Ramadan.

The likes of Anjem Choudary are quoted as saying this is good. Of course he is. AC is the go-to authority these days; moderate Muslims can go to hell.

But Choudary aside, once I had calmed down I asked myself: Will the sky fall down if Channel 4 broadcast a call to prayer for three minutes at 3am?
The call to prayer, the azaan, is led by the imam and lasts roughly a minute. Anyone who has holidayed in a Muslim country such as Turkey or Morocco will have heard it.

It is not being blasted out from British mosques. Just on a mainstream channel in the middle of the night.  Surely the only people awake at that time will be drunks rolling in from a night out? Ironic, huh?  And believe me, no Muslim is going to be tuning in to Channel 4 for the azaan.
We already have a plethora of Islamic channels to guide us during this special month. Some very observant Muslims even refuse to watch any TV during the holy month.

“That’s not the point,” the naysayers cry. “The fabric of Britishness is being eroded. This is a Christian country.”
They said the same things when Channel 4 broadcast an alternative Queen’s Speech featuring a woman in a niqab back in 2006

People say Muslim countries wouldn’t do the same for Christians — but this isn’t true either.  Go to Muslim countries in the Middle East at Christmas and shops will be decked out in baubles.  Church bells ring across parts of mega-conservative Pakistan every Sunday morning.
Three minutes in the middle of the night hardly signifies a death knell for Britain.

So, do I agree with it?  Not at all.

According to Ralph Lee, Channel 4’s head of factual programming, the broadcast is an act of deliberate “provocation”. Ain’t that the truth.

This is the channel that recently aired Dogging Tales and The Man With The 10-Stone Testicles.
And the channel that gave us The Untold Story last August — a documentary pouring scorn on the belief that Muhammad was a prophet of God — prompting 1,200 complaints.

Channel 4 doesn’t worship Islam, it worships controversy.

With the killing of soldier Lee Rigby and a number of retaliatory attacks on mosques across the country, this is the sort of provocation we can all do without.

The world doesn’t need more provocation, it needs more understanding.

And I say: Amen to that.

should my wife change her name to frank?  How about Bob?

Our regulars here are aware of the problems my wife has had with US immigration at LAX over the last few years.

I won’t go into the whole story again except to say that on three occasions she has been treated as if she didn’t belong, in spite of the fact that we have been married for 43 years and been together for 44.  My wife worked in the USA for at least 39 years, collects social security even now, but due to rules that make no exceptions, well that is unless you’re queer and the supremes rule in your favor, each time we’ve visited home she has been taken into an interrogation room at LAX by the KGB, who found work with our customs ppl after the fall of their glorious socialist republic.

Her green card has to be given up and if she wants another she will have to go through the whole process all over again, which can not be done easily at this point in time for all sorts of reasons.  The point is, she is in limbo with the whole thing and I don’t think at her age and in her state of health, she wants to be bothered with it all.  She has always been the sort of immigrant that our country said it wanted.  Hard working and not a financial drag on the public purse and without a blemish of criminality.  OK. Enough of that.

Here’s what has me going on the subject again.

Two days after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down parts of the Defense of Marriage Act, the federal law that defined marriage as a union of male and female only, more history was made: A gay couple in Florida became the first to see their green card petition approved, a lawyer for the pair said.
Bulgarian graduate student Traian Popov — in American on a student visa — and his American partner, Julian Marsh, were married in New York, The Associated Press reported.

(In another newspaper, his “partner” was described as, his husband. Good grief that is gross. )

A Bulgarian student and his American husband are the first gay couple in the US to have their green card petition, or permanent visa, approved after the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriages.

Traian Popov, who has a student visa, married Julian Marsh in New York because Florida, where they live, did not recognise same-sex marriage. Mr Popov will not be able to travel to his family in Bulgaria for at least six months while his green card is processed.
The pair’s lawyer, Lavi Soloway, says he has filed 100 petitions for same-sex couples since 2010.
AP

Perhaps my wife could cut her hair and change her name to Frank?

Liberté, égalité, fraternité ?  Not these days.  and God bless Marine Le Pen!

Liberté, égalité, fraternité

Unless you happen to be a French right wing conservative who recognizes what the socialist left SOBs try to say is not happening.  That your country is being over run by immigrants, many who will never fit in, do not want to anyway, and do not even approve your values and culture.  And most important, not only must one NOT be critical of immigrants, above all, one must NOT be critical of muslims.  You do NOT have the liberty to speak out and anyway, the laws in France as in Europe in general, are drawn so broadly that almost anything you say about other people can and will be taken to mean whatever the left wants it to mean, for the sole purpose of shutting you up.  You can NOT openly say your country has been invaded or say what Marine Le Pen, bless her French soul, has said about muslims praying in the streets or them and immigrants in general.  Anything those appeasing bastards on the left declare racist is prosecutable.

Not everyone will agree with everything she says or believes or stands for.  But to give her her due, she is a French patriot and those may be thin on the ground at this point in time.  And since the left also controls the education (brainwashing really) pretty soon saluting their nation’s flag might be considered an insult to former colonies and a racist act as well.

For those who do not know.

Marine Le Pen

French Political leader

Marine Le Pen is a French political leader, who is a lawyer by profession, a French right-wing politician and the president of the Front National, the third-largest political party in France, since 16 January 2011

H/T BBC News

Here’s the charge and the high crime she committed.

France’s Marine Le Pen loses immunity as MEP

BBC News

The European Parliament has removed the immunity of the French far-right leader and MEP Marine Le Pen, paving the way for her prosecution in France.
French prosecutors opened a case against Ms Le Pen in 2011 after she compared Muslims praying in the streets to the Nazi occupation of France.
Ms Le Pen, leader of the National Front (FN), is accused of incitement to hatred and discrimination.

The vote followed a move by a committee of MEPs to remove her immunity.

The request to do so came from the chief prosecutor’s office in Lyon, the city where, in December 2010, Ms Le Pen told FN supporters that the sight of Muslims praying in the street was similar to the Nazi occupation in World War II.

In her speech, broadcast by French media, she said that first France had seen “more and more veils”, then “more and more burkas” and “after that came prayers in the streets… I’m sorry, but some people are very fond of talking about the Second World War and about the occupation, so let’s talk about occupation, because that is what is happening here… There are no tanks, no soldiers, but it is still an occupation, and it weighs on people”.

Ms Le Pen took 17.9% of the vote in the first round of the French presidential election last year.

Praying in the streets was banned in Paris in 2011 in response to growing far-right protests. And in the same year France became the first EU state to ban public wearing of the face-covering Islamic veil (niqab).

By some estimates as many as six million French people, or just under 10% of the population, are Muslims, most of them from France’s former North African colonies.

Speaking to the French broadcaster LCI on Tuesday Ms Le Pen defended her remarks, saying she would lose her parliamentary immunity “because I’m a dissident”, adding: “I’m not at all afraid of it, I’m scornful of it”.

She described the move against her as “intimidation” and said she had “dared to say what all the French people think”.

Under European Parliament rules, immunity covers MEPs for any opinions they express within the parliament.
But the rules say that “immunity cannot be claimed when a member is found in the act of committing an offence and shall not prevent the European Parliament from exercising its right to waive the immunity of one of its members”.

The Labour MEP Mary Honeyball, who sits on the parliament’s legal affairs committee, told the BBC: “Quite rightly, Marine Le Pen will now face prosecution following today’s vote. It’s taken a long time, but she must now defend her actions in a French court and follow the proper legal procedure which almost nobody else in France has immunity from. She is not above reproach.”

And another committee member, Conservative MEP Sajjad Karim, said Ms Le Pen “is, and always will be, a polarising politician who seeks only to divide rather than unite”.

“It is disappointing that she tries to hide behind her EU immunity as she espouses anti-EU and anti-immigration sentiments. Using Nazi occupation in France as a comparison to Muslims praying on the street is appalling, insulting and highly inflammatory,” he said.

The deck is stacked and the brave and true Marine Le Pen is being stitched up.  Anyone doubt that?

The Labour MEP Mary Honeyball, who sits on the parliament’s legal affairs committee

Labour ... LEFT!

Conservative MEP Sajjad Karim, conservative?  May be but, I think we can see where he comes from.

“she espouses anti-EU and anti-immigration sentiments”

Oh dear ... and I guess she has no right to say anything but the prescribed line. Immigration is good and muzzies are all welcome and great folks. We all want them for neighbors. Sure thing.  In the same way we want Gypsies next door. uh huh.  And god forbid anyone voice anti-Eu sentiments.  That’s a think crime too.

Another woman with more balls than the men running the country is Brigitte Bardot, who has been in court and has been fined I don’t know how many times, not just for what she said out loud in interviews. They even went after her when she wrote a book and was critical of homosexuals for their behavior and critical of muslim immigration.  You can NOT do that in France.

In her 2003 book, “A Scream in the Silence”, she warned of an “Islamicization of France”, and said of Muslim immigration:

Over the last twenty years, we have given in to a subterranean, dangerous, and uncontrolled infiltration, which not only resists adjusting to our laws and customs but which will, as the years pass, attempt to impose its own.

In the book, she also made comparisons of her close gay friends to today’s homosexuals, who

“jiggle their bottoms, put their little fingers in the air and with their little castrato voices moan about what those ghastly heteros put them through” and that some contemporary homosexuals behave like “fairground freaks”.

She has paid fines in the THOUSANDS and I really think they’d jail her but for age and health and possible public outcry.

Being right and telling the truth as you see it is Verboten in France today. You can’t even say it in a book.

Jihadists behead Catholic priest

H/T Doc Jeff

Just checking mail, loads there and off all day yesterday so much to catch up on.

Syrian Jihadists behead Catholic priest

By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM)
7/3/2013
Catholic Online (http://www.catholic.org)

Jihadists are terrorizing Syrians and persecuting Christians.

Syrian terrorists have beheaded a Catholic priest who they accused of collaborating with the Assad regime. Those accusations have not yet been verified. Father Francois was summarily executed and the Vatican has confirmed the martyrdom.

VATICAN CITY (Catholic Online) - The Vatican is confirming the death by beheading of Franciscan Father, Francois Murad, who was martyred by Syrian jihadists on June 23.

Below is the news release from the Vatican, via news.va.

On Sunday, June 23 the Syrian priest François Murad was killed in Gassanieh, in northern Syria, in the convent of the Custody of the Holy Land where he had taken refuge. This is confirmed by a statement of the Custos of the Holy Land sent to Fides Agency. The circumstances of the death are not fully understood. According to local sources, the monastery where Fr. Murad was staying was attacked by militants linked to the jihadi group Jabhat al-Nusra.

Father François, 49, had taken the first steps in the religious life with the Franciscan Friars of the Custody of the Holy Land, and with them he continued to share close bonds of spiritual friendship. After being ordained a priest he had started the construction of a coenobitic monastery dedicated to St. Simon Stylites in the village of Gassanieh. After the start of the Civil War, the monastery of St. Simon had been bombed and Fr. Murad had moved to the convent of the Custody for safety reasons and to give support to the remaining few, along with another religious and nuns of the Rosary.

This should make it clear to Christians around the world what jihadists are about. Make no mistake. Catholics and Christians around the globe are under dire threat, particularly from the spread of militant Islam. Until the threat is recognized and taken seriously, martyrdoms like this will continue.

We have a link to video provided via LiveLeak. We must warn you, the video is extremely graphic. We believe the first victim is Father Francois, and the second victim that is depicted is another person said to be a collaborator with the Assad regime.

The video CLEARLY depicts the beheadings of these victims. DO NOT follow the link unless you are over the age of 18, and are prepared to view content of this nature.

Catholic Online believes it is very important the world knows that Christians are being murdered for their faith, and that martyrdom isn’t an ancient phenomenon.

Sorry folks, but I just can not place that video here at bmews.  If you want to see it, the link is below as you can see.

I don’t have the words and just don’t know what to say that has not been said already.  These aren’t people. They are vermin in human form. You might have said it better.
The Brits by which I mean their govt. not the population they are supposed to represent, are all hot for arming the good rebels against that nasty Assad fellow.
If you ask them just who are the good guys here, they have no answer that I’ve heard.  The PM here has been hot to trot for awhile, never mind that the country is hurting in many ways and most folks are damn sorry their troops ever went there and see no good in it. And now Obama appears to be falling into line somewhat, in that I understand him to now being agreeable to sticking the American nose into Syria by way of help of some kind to the rebels.

THE VIDEO IS HERE

Panic Attack!

I’m over it now. I think. Having a major case of chicken-itis.

Just sort of freaked out about going to the GI tomorrow. I sooo don’t want to have a colonoscopy. But if I have to, then I have to. Time to Man Up and   take it in the a  take one for the team. Shit. Or lack of, actually. Crivens. I’m not sure which part is worse, the “cleansing” ahead of things or the how-can-this-not-be-utterly-humiliating expensive procedure itself.

Tomorrow is merely a consultation. Maybe the doctor will tell me I don’t really need this. Yeah, sure.

Gee, some “comic relief”.  Reads like I wrote it myself.  rolleyes

“Houston, we have ignition!”

UPdate

I kept my appointment and had a nice chat with the doctor. I think she was about 17. They’re all so young suddenly! Anyway, this place, an annex to the local hospital, does them in-house and they’re all done under minimal general anesthesia. 20 minutes for the procedure and then up to about an hour waking up and relaxing in the recovery room. They do not use the above Golytely stuff, but a gentler, slower acting cleanser.

It ain’t cheap at all, $2-3000 without insurance, but low income people like myself may qualify for a plan run by the hospital. I could get a near-total discount and only have to pay $100 co-pay. So I’ve got paperwork to fill out, and if I get the nod I can get this nearly for free, plus enormous discounts for all other services at that hospital and the various doctors attached to the annex. It looks like my current income level would put me in the full assistance category, but they have a stepped discount that can help out even if your household/legal income is up to triple the federal poverty line.

A bit of internet research shows that several discount programs exist all over the place. Colonoscopy Assist is striving to become nationwide; so far they are in 32 states and will do the procedure for $950. This is very good. Unfortunately the only place in NJ that currently is part of their network is in Jersey City, and I’d think I might prefer having cancer to going there.

New Jersey also has a FREE program for lower income people, called NJCEED - New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection, and you can qualify even if your income is up to 250% of the federal poverty level ... that’s just under $59,000 for a family of 4. They are not the only state that has a program like this; it is open both to the uninsured and underinsured.

Truly, half my panic about this procedure was the cost. With my less than stellar income, there is simply no way I could manage to drop 3 Large on a “recommended” bit of screening. Learning that several assistance programs are out there that I ought to be able to qualify for is really nice.

So if you are in my boat ... the good ship No Money ... do some internet research and ask questions. Don’t forgo what could be a lifesaving examination just to save money; help is probably out there, a little or a lot. It costs you nothing to find out.

OK, that’s my PSA for today.

Oh joy ... we’re having our daily downpour.

It’s Official: NJ Sucked In June

NJ: Wettest June Since 1895

Dr. David A. Robinson
New Jersey State Climatologist

Rain, rain, and more rain was the theme for New Jersey weather in June 2013.  When all was said and done, statewide average precipitation totaled 9.57”, a record for any June back to 1895 (Table 1).  Temperatures were above average too.  The average of 71.3° was 1.2° above the 1981-2010 mean and ranked as the 19th warmest June.  These averages are derived from an evaluation of several dozen long-term National Weather Service Cooperative Observing (Coop) stations situated throughout the state.

More on thermal conditions later in this report, but first back to the precipitation.  The 9.57” total was 5.55” above the 4.02” average.  Tropical Storm Andrea brought the most abundant rain of the month, but there were 13 days during the month when an inch or more accumulated at one or more locations.
...
No location in the state was spared the wet conditions, with the southwest, west central, and northern coast being wettest and the far south and portions of the northeast least wet.  Taking top honors was Pittsgrove (Salem County) with 13.07”, followed by Franklin Township (Gloucester) at 13.00”, ...
...
Some 15 of the approximately 200 CoCoRaHS stations across the state caught between 12.00” and 13.07” and 60 stations came in with 10.00"-11.99".

The data station nearest to me (NJ-HN-3, 6/02-7/01 rain for the previous days) reported 11.92” for the month. So we fell short of being the wettest, but only by an inch.

And guess what it’s doing today? You got it. Raining. Just like yesterday:

image

So we saw more than double the typical rainfall for the month. Soggy Central. July is starting out on the same wet foot, with a forecast of more rain for 7 of the next 10 days.

We ought to have the lushest lawns ever this year, but if this keeps up the tomato crop is going to go bust. The corn comes later, so if it dries out we could have a bumper crop.

Can we send these clouds to Arizona, Texas, or California where they’re needed? I wouldn’t mind that at all.

eu threatens usa?  lol the middle finger to the EU and what the heck, the UN too.

I have precious little time this morning and almost none this afternoon.

However, I saw something in the morning paper over breakfast, which I have not even finished, and knew I had to boot as this NSA spy thing just won’t go away.  Now our buddies in Germany are angry at us. Or some are pretending anger as is the way these days. Someone with the unlikely name of Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenburger, who happens to be their justice minister, is really upset.  Woo-hoo. So declare war again Sabine.

Germany ready to charge UK and US intelligence over alleged NSA bugging operations

Outrage grows in Europe over allegations of extensive hacking and bugging operations

yuk-yuk-yuk this is honestly soooooo funnyyyyyyyy.

image

Anyway, Germany’s federal prosecution office is bringing charges against Britain and the USA. , over new documents released by that ass-wipe Snowden.  The Germans claim that the United States is treating Europeans like enemies and do not understand why. We are they say, allies.  Uh huh.  The claim published now is that the spying by the US and Brits has been “far more extensive” than originally thought.

The way the Germans and some others are acting, you would think that our intel agencies were spying on every single citizen in that country (and here) when in fact they wouldn’t have the time to read every email if they wanted to, or have the personnel to listen in to every single call.  But never mind all that.  Here’s what I found new and interesting.  I always figured they would have but wasn’t aware there was such a thing as ….

Offices of the EUROPEAN UNION in the USA. Offices in NY and Washington have been bugged and get this bmewsers.

The EU is “demanding” full disclosure and threaten “ severe impact on USA-EU ties.”

Way ta go EU. You tell us by god.  Why if I were you, I’d tell those nasty Yanks where to go and pull out of the USA altogether and take the UN with ya.  By golly that’ll show us.

Now folks, if our guys are bugging those pointless and self appointed bags of hot air, I say go for it NSA!  Kudos.  Stick it to those schmucks and piss em off. Better yet, piss on them.

Snowden’s latest leak claims that the NSA tapped into half a billion German phone calls, emails and SMS messages each month.
I think I posted this comment a week ago, and do so again.
David Ignatius in The Washington Post wrote the following.

It bothers me, too, that the programs Snowden leaked seem to have been lawful, enacted by Congress and subject to congressional and court review. Snowden looks these days more like an intelligence defector, seeking haven in a country hostile to the United States, than a whistleblower.

Peiper Out.
