No Rights For Terrorists?

h/t to Wardmama, thanks!

Now that police have secured the second of two suspects in Monday’s Boston Marathon bombing, the long and meticulous process of examining motives, methods and possible links begins.

A Justice Department official said Friday the government is invoking a seldom-used public safety exception permitting officials to engage in a limited and focused unwarned interrogation of a suspect - in this case Dzhokhar Tsarnaev - without first reading him his typically assured Miranda rights. That official, as well as a second, both of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity, says Tsarnaev will be questioned by a special interrogation team for high-value suspects.

The public safety exception not only permits the unwarned questioning of a suspect, but also allows the government to introduce any statement yielded by such interrogation as evidence in court. The exception is triggered when authorities have an objectively reasonable need to protect themselves or the public from a clear and present danger.

According to media accounts, Tsarnaev and his brother, Tamerlan, were Muslims who recently gravitated to a radical strain of Islam, going so far as to post Anti-American, jihadist videos on social-media sites. Both are thought to have as-yet-unprobed ties to a radical Muslim cleric hellbent on the destruction of the American way of life.

No. Sorry, that’s wrong. Period. High value or not, terrorist and mass-murderer or not, this young man has been granted American citizenship. Like it or loath it, he’s one of us now. And no such exception to the law should exist, no matter what. Because it will be abused. And become far more common than “seldom used”. Because anyone is a threat to public safety if the government says so. And that is simply wrong. Tyranny.

Sounds Like A Tyrant To Me

Obama Trying For Another Legislative End Run

Blocked by Congress from expanding gun sale background checks, President Obama is turning to actions within his own power to keep people from buying a gun who are prohibited for mental health reasons.

Federal law bans certain mentally ill people from purchasing firearms, but not all states are providing data to stop the prohibited sales to the FBI’s background check system. A federal review last year found 17 states contributed fewer than 10 mental health records to the database, meaning many deemed by a judge to be a danger still could have access to guns.

The Obama administration was starting a process Friday aimed at removing barriers in health privacy laws that prevent some states from reporting information to the background check system. The action comes two days after the Senate rejected a measure that would have required buyers of firearms online and at gun shows to pass a background check. That’s already required for shoppers at licensed gun dealers.

Stung by the defeat, Obama vowed to keep up the fight for the background check expansion but also to do what he could through executive action.

I don’t know if this is serious, or if it’s just more petulant smoke and mirrors from Teh Won. And I really don’t know how much Executive Action other presidents have done, but I’m getting pretty sick and tired of this shizz. I think it’s time for some new laws, maybe even a Constitutional Amendment, limited and specifying the power of the President. No more self-appointed un-vetted “czars”. No more “executive actions”. Or damn few. Everything goes through the Legislature, the way it is supposed to. Obama’s constant use of these things really smacks of tyranny.

“Even without Congress, my administration will keep doing everything it can to protect more of our communities,” Obama said from the Rose Garden shortly after the Senate voted. “We’re going to address the barriers that prevent states from participating in the existing background check system.”

Obama also mentioned giving law enforcement more information about lost and stolen guns and establishing emergency plans for schools. Those measures were among the 23 executive actions the president signed in January when he announced his broader push for tighter gun laws in response to a mass shooting of first-graders and staff at Newtown, Conn.’s Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The Health and Human Services Department on Friday was beginning to ask for public comment on how the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, passed by Congress in 1996 and known as HIPAA, is preventing some states from reporting to the background check system and how to address the problem. Under HIPAA, health care providers such as hospitals may release limited information to police, but only in certain circumstances such as when a court is involved.

Well, so much for privacy. Let’s just take that existing HIPAA law and throw it away because it’s inconvenient. Tyranny!

From what I’ve heard, mental health professionals have been given a binary choice when it comes to people looking to buy guns. All or nothing. And I’ve heard from a couple doctors that the word on the medical street is that no shrink in his right mind is ever, ever, going to say YES, because that just might put him in a liability position. So maybe gun owners had better take up Tai Chi, Transcendental Meditation, Rolfing, or somesuch to get their heads on straight, along with swearing off the anti-depressants and the anti-anxiety meds everyone else is on. And don’t ever lie down on that iconic couch.

And Now We All Choose Sides

Michael Moore Blames America

“Two Americans Bomb Boston Marathon”

Filmmaker Michael Moore has now sounded off on the ongoing situation surrounding suspected Boston Marathon bombers and Muslim terrorists Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his older brother, Tamerlan. Naturally, he blames America:
image

PS - If true, what are the odds that these two registered as Republicans?

Pamela Geller Blames Jihad

The Jihad Comes to Boston

Now that we know that the Boston Marathon bombers were Muslims from the Russian Caucasus, it is clear the war is here. Boston is a war zone, yet still the media is disarming the American people by refusing to address the blindingly obvious motive: jihad. As we have seen from Beslan to Baghdad, Libya to Lebanon, Indonesia to India, geography is irrelevant in the struggle of ideology.

Still, even with the New York Times reporting a bit on the brothers’ jihad ties, there was (and still is) a complete disconnect regarding the motive of these jihadis across the mainstream media. The war is here and the media continue to disarm the American people.

Governing authorities are now doing this as well. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called the bombing a “random act of violence,” and compared it to global warming as “the new normal.” This sentiment is not just stupid, it’s dangerous. It amounts to a betrayal by those we have elected to keep us safe. In 2011, the city of Cambridge gave Dzhokhar Tsarnaev a scholarship. No one would have dreamed of looking into his sentiments regarding jihad. That would have been “bigotry.”

Now we are reaping the fruits of that kind of thinking. Boston is a war zone; jihad in America. Bring our boys home--the war is here.

Please read her whole article at Breitbart, and her other article(s) on her blog.

I had the TV on all day long, with dual PIP running so that I was constantly switching back and forth between Fox, CNN, MSNBC, and that other channel. Throughout most of the day Fox was most adamant that this was Islamic Jihad on our own shores, and that it was nearly a sure thing that there would be other people involved, from co-conspirators to inculcators to the money men and the politicians on the far sides of the world. It was only Charles Krauthammer late in the afternoon, who spoke what is only accurate for this very instant in time: he said that these two are self-motivated jihadis (SJS, or Sudden Jihad Syndrome as we used to call it some years back when it was commonly accepted that we as a nation were fighting a Global War On Terror, which was essentially a battle against Radical Islam, except that Radical Islam is really just Proper Islam, but to say we’re in a battle against Proper Regular Islam would be to label our efforts a Crusade, which is a big bad political no-no, even though our enemies have told us a million times since Munich 1972 that they are fighting a religious war against us. A Crusade by any other name; jihad in their tongue. But I digress by letting reality intrude) self motivated jihadis, because no further connections have been proven at this point. He should have emphasized the “for the moment” angle more. But I wanted to slightly disagree with Pamela, although before this past Monday she was 100% correct. It’s only when our people are actually dying that Fox lets the PC mask slip and starts acting like real Americans. The other networks ... have a long way to go.

image

PS - Dear US Government: If you won’t stop giving asylum to our enemies, would you at least stop letting them go play global tourist once they’ve been granted asylum? That’s not what asylum is about. The knight runs into the church, begs asylum, and pretty much becomes an instant monk. For the rest of his life. Because if he ever walked off holy ground, the local lords would kill him. He didn’t get a Golden Ticket With Immunity to wear around his neck. So political asylum in the USA ought to stop the moment you leave here. Visit Canada for the weekend, loose asylum. No, sorry, you left. Can’t get back in either. Sorry.  These young men spent most of their lives here, with free money, housing, and every benefit we could give them. Including citizenship. And yet - as “asylumates” - at least one of them went abroad to get radical jihadi training?? WTFFF? Or was that only AFTER we gave him citizenship, that he (or they) started plotting how to kill us in large numbers because - after giving their whole damn extended family the best possible life for at least a decade - they decided we’re their enemy and need to die?

PPS - Dear US Government: I take it back. Fuck asylum, and fuck pisslam. Declare it to be a political belief of hatred, just like Nazism. Hate speech, not a religion. Then close up and burn down every mosque in the country, fill the landfills with urine soaked Korans, make the preaching of jizzbalm a felony, especially in prisons, and send them all packing. Alla ooo arsehole. Twelve solid years of blood and treasure have been spent trying to win hearts and minds and to bring illumination and modernity to the far flung sandy dark corners of the world. It hasn’t worked; this chicken has come home to roost and it shat all over the floor. It’s time to go China Style on it, and use their approach when they have another outbreak of bird flu. Hack hack chop chop bash slice chop rip hack stomp. Ooh, so sorry, all bird now very dead. Into river, bye bye. No bird flu problem here!!

Got Him

8:43PM

Man In The Boat

image

“Suspect #2” has been arrested and taken away in an ambulance, after being found hiding on Franklin Street under the shrink-wrap winterizing cover of a trailered deep sea fishing boat.

Applause from the crowd in the street.

Dhzokar is wounded and in custody.

It’s over.

So far.

half an hour ago ...

(CNN)—Police have cornered a man believed to be the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings on a boat in a yard in a suburb of the Massachusetts capital, law enforcement officials told CNN.

Authorities “engaged” the man, according to one of the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, just minutes after authorities indicated a massive manhunt for a suspect in Watertown appeared to come up empty.

A CNN crew near the scene heard about two dozen gunshots fired, but it was not clear if the shots were fired by the suspect, authorities or both. A number of small explosions, believed to be stun grenades, also were heard.

Authorities, using a bullhorn, called on the suspect to surrender: “Come out with your hands up.”

The development came after authorities cast a wide net for the suspect that virtually shut down the Massachusetts capital amid warnings the man was possibly armed with explosives.

Authorities say Dzhokar Tsarnaev escaped an overnight shootout with police in suburban Watertown that left his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev—the other man wanted in the bombings—dead.

There was another big round of gunfire about 45 minutes before this, and it appears that LEOs got a tip from the owner who called in and said she saw blood in her yard. After that it was just a matter of minutes until they had the boat targeted. Did Dhzokar spend the whole night in the boat, or did he just hide there in the past couple hours? [tiny update: probably no more than an hour or two at most. Police had earlier searched the yard and garage.] If he lives, we may find out. We don’t even know what his physical condition is at this point.

Press conference scheduled for about 10pm Boston time.

A Net With Holes In It You Can Drive Through

Media reporting a new BOLO for a Honda car going out across New England. Sounds like our little bomber boy got through the cordon of thousands of LEOs and is on the run again???

Oh great ... this will complicate matters if the kid is ever captured

-- Dzhokar Tsarnaev became a U.S. citizen on September 11, 2012, the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, a federal official told CNN’s Mike Ahlers.

Of course. Of course he chose that day.

Oh this will chap your ass

Chechen President: It’s America’s Fault

The Chechen president has apparently released a statement that blames the suspects’ American upbringing for their alleged terrorist activity.

“Tragic events have taken place in Boston. A terrorist attack killed people. We have already expressed our condolences to the people of the city and to the American people. Today, the media reports, one Tsarnaev was killed as [police] tried to arrest him. It would be appropriate if he was detained and investigated, and the circumstances and the extent of his guilt determined. Apparently, the security services needed to calm down the society by any means necessary,” says Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov, according to BuzzFeed.

“Any attempt to draw a connection between Chechnya and Tsarnaevs — if they are guilty — is futile. They were raised in the United States, and their attitudes and beliefs were formed there. It is necessary to seek the roots of this evil in America. ...

Yeah. Right.

Surviving Bomber On The Run

Not much for me to say that you haven’t thought of yourself.

As a ‘by the way’ may I ask why we can’t demand that foreigners with alphabet spelling for names change to pronounceable and spellable names as a courtesy to their host country and citizens.  Once upon a time they did.

Here’s more on the scum in case you missed anything in USA coverage.

Mommy was a thief btw.

‘Just a normal American kid’: Boston bombing suspect, 19, on the run is high school wrestler who ‘wanted to be a doctor’

Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, described as armed and dangerous, is currently on the run from police wanted as a suspect in the bombing of the Boston marathon
His brother 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed this morning following a gun fight
The pair’s uncle and father have spoken out with Dzhokhar revealed as a medical student with dreams of becoming a doctor described as a ‘true angel’ by his father
Appears he was led to fundamentalism by his brother who became increasingly radicalized over the past five months posting numerous videos on YouTube about Jihad

By Katie Davies

image

The younger of the two Chechen Boston bomb suspects has been described as a ‘lovely and normal’ 19-year-old medical student who it appears was led to fundamentalism by his radicalized older brother.

Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, is still on the run and considered by law enforcement to be armed and extremely dangerous.

A picture emerged today of Dzhokhar as a diligent young man with a passion for Islam but who loved America and was a sociable school athlete and aspiring doctor.

What sparked his turn to terror and caused him to set off two bombs which killed three and injured 176 is unknown but he was undoubtedly influenced by his older brother and accomplice, whose radicalization was documented by his increasingly extreme internet posts over the last five months.

It has emerged Dzhokhar attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, former high school of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. More recently he was a medical student at the University of Massachusetts and a lifeguard at Harvard University.

He was described by family and friends as a party-loving guy, who was never a troublemaker and appeared grateful to America for taking in his family.

His father described him as a ‘true angel’ today as news emerged his two sons were terror suspects wanted for the atrocious attack on Boston on Monday.

Anzor Tsarnaev spoke with The Associated Press by telephone from the Russian city of Makhachkala.

‘My son is a true angel,’ he said. ‘Dzhokhar is a second-year medical student in the U.S. He is such an intelligent boy. We expected him to come on holidays here.’

His 26-year-old older son Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police late last night.

Tamerlan died in hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and possible blast injuries after a fierce gun battle late last night.

Both men were legal permanent residents of the United States who hailed from Chechnya, which has been plagued by an Islamic insurgency stemming from separatist wars.

LOTS TO SEE AT THE MAIL SOURCE

Chechnya: A history of terror

Muslim militants from Chechnya have a long history of unleashing separatist terror attacks on Russia – but the allegations of involvement in the Boston Marathon explosions would mark the first time they have targeted the West.

Buried in the heart of Russia’s Northern Caucasus, the Islamic state has fought against Russian rule for centuries.

But it culminated in a bloody and chaotic civil war with the Russian government in 1994 that left tens of thousands dead and the region in ruins.

As a result, the area became a hotbed for extremism, and was soon infiltrated by foreign Islamic militants, including those with ties to al Qaeda.

Terrorists have since unleashed a string of attacks on Russian soil and, more recently, abroad.

Russian troops withdrew from Chechnya in 1996 after the first Chechen war, leaving it de-facto independent and largely lawless, but then rolled back three years later following apartment building explosions in Moscow and other cities blamed on the rebels.

Chechnya has stabilized under the steely grip of Kremlin-backed local strongman Ramzan Kadyrov, a former rebel whose forces were accused of massive rights abuses.

But the Islamic insurgency has spread to neighboring provinces, with Dagestan, sandwiched between Chechnya and the Caspian Sea, becoming the epicenter of violence with militants launching daily attacks against police and other authorities.

Militants from Chechnya and neighboring provinces have launched a long series of terror attacks in Russia

On October 23 2002, over 40, mostly female, terrorists took more than 700 hostages prisoner at a Moscow theatre, demanding an end to the Russian presence in Chechnya. Dressed from head to toe in black hijabs, they became known as The Black Widows.

But when Russian security forces stormed the theater, guns blazing, the hostage takers responded by detonating homemade bombs strapped to their bodies, killing more than 100 innocent theater goers.

Then on September 1 2004, a group of 32 heavily-armed, masked men seized control of Middle School Number One and more than 1,000 hostages in Beslan, North Ossetia.

Most of the hostages were children aged from six to sixteen years old.

After a tense two-day standoff, that was beamed around the world, Russian forces raided the building.

A violent, two-hour gunfight followed bringing an end to a siege that ultimately claimed the lives of 331 civilians, 11 commandos and 31 hostage-takers.

The rebels have since claimed responsibility for an array of terrorist attacks, including last year’s double suicide bombing of the Moscow subway system that killed 40 people.

In March 2010, two women suicide bombers killed 40 commuters when they blew themselves up on two packed tube trains during the busy rush hour.

And in January a year later, a Chechen suicide bomber unleashed terror on Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport when they blew themselves up killing 36 people.

In recent years, however, militants in Chechnya, Dagestan and other neighboring provinces have largely refrained from attacks outside the Caucasus.

The allegations of the Caucasus men’s role in the Boston’s explosions would reinforce long-held claims by Russian officials that insurgents in the Caucasus have been linked to al-Qaida.

Crivens!!! Boston Cops Corner Bomber Suspect?

Boy howdy, I take one evening off from the TV news and look what happens!

Surviving Bomber On The Run

UPDATES now at the top of this post.

12:20 - reports the bomber is posting on social media that he will kill everyone because his brother has been killed. Swarms of armored vehicles moving into target area in Watertown. News conference still delayed.

11:05am latest - reports that the suspect, in the middle of a car chase and massive manhunt, found time (11:18pm) last night to stop at the local ATM and get some cash. Go figure.
Bombs thrown from fleeing vehicle last night are still in the road; cops spending all manpower to pursue victim.

10:50am background on the perp - http://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/what-we-know-about-boston-marathon-bomb-suspect-dzhokhar-tsa?sub=2157019_1090381

about 10:45 there was a shot fired/explosion and the police swarmed from one area to another. TV reporting that the perp’s missing Honda CRV has been located ... it looks like this could be a vehicle being guarded seen on TV. Armored vehicles everywhere. Police press conference to be held shortly.

TV ticker ... “bullet ridden Mercedes SUV taken from Waterton home”, “police say ‘military grade’ explosives thrown from car”, “coroner: dead suspect has ‘too many bullet holes to count’ ”

DEVELOPING: The surviving Boston bomb suspect hails from Chechnya or Turkey and has lived in the United States for several years.

Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News that authorities are investigating whether Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., and his brother may have had military training overseas.

A man with the same name won a $2,500 scholarship in 2011 from the city of Cambridge, according to online records.

The two men believed to be the suspects from Monday’s terror attack apparently surfaced just hours after the FBI released their images late Thursday afternoon, shooting the police officer, robbing a convenience store, carjacking a man who later escaped and engaging in a wild shootout with Boston police, in which they hurled explosives from their stolen car.

“We believe this man to be a terrorist,” said Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis. “We believe this to be a man who’s come here to kill people.”

The bombings on Monday killed three people and injured more than 180 others.

Guess I’d better turn the news on ASAP. Yowzers!

TV says the dead bomber was previously wounded with shrapnel. Like he’d been caught in his own explosion, or had tried to be a suicide bomber??

(CNN)—Police sealed off densely populated portions the Boston metro area early Friday after a violent night chasing the Boston Marathon terror suspects left one of the men and a police officer dead.

Police ordered businesses in the suburb of Watertown and nearby communities to stay closed and told residents to stay inside and answer the door for no one but authorities. The subway and Amtrak train systems have been shut down. Every Boston area school is closed.

“It’s jarring,” said CNN Belief blog writer Danielle Tumminio, who lives in Watertown.

Boston’s public transit authority sent city buses to Watertown to evacuate residents while bomb experts comb the surroundings for possible explosives.

Police shot one of the men dead after a wild car chase through Watertown in which authorities say they hurled explosives at pursuing officers.
...
Federal, state and local law officers are swarming through the Boston suburb of Watertown, going door-to-door to track him down, said transit police spokesman Paul MacMillan.

Police officers in full body armor, carrying automatic weapons, flooded the area.

“This situation is grave.” Massachusetts Police Col. Timothy Alben said. “This is a very serious situation that we are dealing with.”

The violence began late Thursday in Cambridge, across the Charles River from Boston, with the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer while he sat in his car late Thursday, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said in statement. Police believe the bombing suspects were responsible for the shooting.

The same two suspects according to authorities, then hijacked a car at gunpoint in Cambridge. They released the driver a half-hour later at a gas station.

As police picked up the chase, the car’s occupants threw explosives out the windows and shot at officers, according to the district attorney’s office.

Former [ Chechnian ?] ambassador on the TV - “This is radical Islam in action. These people are killers and terrorism is their way of life.”

(CNSNews.com) - “We believe this to be a terrorist. We believe this to be a man who’s come here to kill people. We need to get him in custody.” Those are the words of a police official in Watertown, Mass., at an early-morning news conference, around 4:20 a.m., on Friday.

A massive influx of police shut down Watertown, Mass., a Boston suburb, overnight, as officers raced to catch the second of two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings. The first was shot and killed by police, but also had wounds consistent with an explosion, doctors said at a news conference.

People living within a 20-block perimeter of Watertown were warned to stay inside and open their doors only to clearly identified police officers.

Witnesses reported a wild night of gunfire and explosions in and around Watertown as helicopters beamed searchlights overhead. Hundreds, if not thousands, of police officers were said to be going door to door.

The events in Watertown followed the shooting death of a campus police officer at M.I.T., the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Thursday night. A second police officer, a transit cop, was “badly injured,” police said. Details were not available as of 4:44 a.m.
...
Mass transit in the Boston area—all buses and trains—are shut down “as a safety measure,” as police search for the second Boston Marathon bomber. They have directed people living in the Boston area to stay indoors. Businesses should stay closed, they said.

“To the residents of Watertown, Newton, Waltham, Belmont, Cambridge and the Allston-Brighton neighborhoods of Boston, we are asking you to stay home, stay indoors. We are asking businesses not to open; we are asking people not to congregate outside. We are asking people not to go to mass transit. And we are hopeful that as the day proceeds, we can provide further guidance that will be able to open portions of the (transit) system, and be able to ease these restrictions,” a police official said.

No vehicle traffic will be allowed into Watertown, the focus of the search, and the place where one suspect (black hat) was shot and killed early this morning.

It looks like the suspects had not fled more than half a mile from where the bombs went off the other day. Suspects are brothers? TV talking heads saying FBI feel there is a sleeper network in place and they will ferret it out.

The suspects — introduced to the world via photos and video footage Thursday night — were identified as brothers, law enforcement officials said Friday morning. The one still at large was identified by law enforcement authorities as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge. The one who was killed was identified as Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Dzokhar. Joe-Car. Joker? Oy vey.

One of these guys is/was a wrestler, the other older one a boxer of near-Olympic caliber. The one’s Facebook page seems to be a hate filled rant against Russia, for Islam? “We really haven’t talked about the radical Islam that’s flourished in Chechnya.” TV’s talking heads are just dumbfounded; how can young men like this come here, get so deeply ingrained in our society and culture, and still carry so much hatred inside that they’d do such a thing.  Gee, mo, I wonder. Not.

Breaking 8:35am - police and FBI rushing a building in Watertown. Geez, this is fluid. Shots fired, or small explosions? Turn on the TV!

Ricin Guy Arrested

Mississippi man arrested in connection with ricin letters

A Mississippi man has been arrested as a suspect in connection with the mailing of three letters sent to President Obama, Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and a Mississippi official that initially tested positive for ricin, Fox News confirms.

The Department of Justice said Paul Kevin Curtis, 45, was arrested at his Corinth, Miss., home Wednesday afternoon following an investigation conducted by an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and several other agencies.

The FBI confirmed earlier Wednesday that a letter addressed to Obama had “preliminarily tested positive” for ricin, a day after lawmakers said another letter sent to the Capitol Hill office of Wicker tested positive for the same substance.

Curtis believed he had uncovered a conspiracy to sell human body parts on the black market and sometimes performed as an Elvis Presley impersonator, the Associated Press reported.

The Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, Mississippi, posted photographs of a man it identified as Paul Kevin Curtis. In one photograph, he is shown under an “Elvis” sign holding a microphone as he appears to be singing. He is wearing a white suit and sporting long sideburns and swept-back hair.

A Kevin Curtis Live Facebook page describes him a “Master of Impressions performing ‘Tribute to the Stars’ for audiences of all ages!”

The FBI arrested Curtis on Wednesday in connection with the case at his home in Corinth, Mississippi, the Justice Department said in a statement. Test results were expected later Thursday on the contents of envelopes, which may have been contaminated with the deadly poison.

At this point the powdered substance has been confirmed as ricin.

Now, how on earth did an Elvis impersonator get his hands on powdered ricin?

And did they get the right guy this time around? By which I mean that the men accused of sending those anthrax letters after 9/11 were later found innocent. But not after the government destroyed their lives. And then there was that horror show surrounding Richard Jewell, falsely accused of being the Atlanta Olympics bomber because he found the bomb and saved people’s lives. Or the Duke Lacross “rapists” ... or any of the many people “tried and convicted” by the media.

Oh Boo Hoo

Extended Background Checks Dies In DC

Obama, our petulant pouter in chief: You must want children to die!

The Senate on Wednesday defeated a vital background check amendment seen as the linchpin to Democrats’ gun control bill, dealing a major setback to President Obama—who lashed out at opponents in unusually blunt terms during remarks from the Rose Garden.

“All in all, this was a pretty shameful day for Washington,” Obama said, accusing the gun lobby of lying about the bill.

The vote was 54-46, with supporters falling six votes short of the required 60-vote threshold.

The failure of the background check proposal authored by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa., now imperils the entire legislation.

...

“The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Obama said. He said the claims “upset” some gun owners who in turn “intimidated” senators.

“There were no coherent arguments as to why we couldn’t do this. It came down to politics,” he said.

True, aside from that awful one word argument: FREEDOM. Egads this guy is a lemon sucking douchebag, isn’t he?

“The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Obama said. He said the claims “upset” some gun owners who in turn “intimidated” senators.

“There were no coherent arguments as to why we couldn’t do this. It came down to politics,” he said.

Then there’s that other coherent argument: making such a law wouldn’t do a damned thing to lower crime or reduce mass shootings. So why bother?

Unfortunately, the freaky rules the legislature labors under in DC allow this bill to be voted on again. Put me in charge, and I’d change that too. Vote, and if a bill fails, it can’t come up again for 3 years, nor can any other bill that contains half or more of the points the failed bill contained. None of this endless Mulligan BS. You lose, bye bye.

PS - read the darn bill. As much as they - the left - LIE about it not making a national firearms registration database, that is exactly what it sets things up to do.

This is how it looks from the other side. I’m sure my smart readers can spot the bias and the misdirections ...

Public opinion gets trumped in gun control defeat

A bipartisan yet controversial proposal that would have extended current background checks for gun buyers to include gun shows and internet sales Wednesday fell six votes shy of the 60 needed in the Senate to advance through the chamber. The amendment by Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania went down in defeat even though just about every national poll conducted the past couple of months indicated that the vast majority of Americans supported tougher background checks.

The most recent surveys included a CNN/ORC International poll released last week that indicated 86% of the public supported some form of background checks that are not currently required by law for gun sales, and an ABC News/Washington Post survey released Tuesday which indicated that 86% of Americans said they favored background checks for gun sales on the internet and at gun shows.

The two new polls were also in-line with past surveys by indicating no partisan divide on the question, with the vast majority of Democrats, independents, and even Republicans supporting increased background checks. The ABC/Washington Post survey also indicated that 86% of gun owning households supported the proposal.

...

“The American people are trying to figure out: How can something have 90% support and yet not happen?” said the president in comments made at the Rose Garden in the White House, an hour after the vote in the Senate.

“All in all this was a pretty shameful day in Washington,” added Obama, who was flanked by victims of gun violence.

Don’t you just hate it when presidents use people as props? Kind of like Saddam Hussein and his human shields. Pretty low IMHO.

I’d like to see a “high information voter” poll selectively taken on this issue:
1) Do you vote regularly?
If YES, go on
2) Have you read the Constitution?
If YES, go on
3) Are you at least somewhat familiar with the Bill of Rights and the concept of limited government?
If YES, go on
4) Do you know what NICS is?
If YES, go on
5) Do you favor enhancements to NICS or extending NICS for
5.a) better Mental Health screening?
5.a.1 - 5.a.x ... questions regarding specific mental health screening and history proposed measures
5.b) person to person sales?
5.c) Internet or newspaper gun sale advertisements that don’t involve a gun store or registered FFL dealer?
5.d) Should person to person sales at gun shows be approved by NICS?

And then find 100,000 to 500,000 respondents who can make it past question #4. That would give you a real statistical base of people who actually understand the issue, instead of the pile of cow pats who just react emotionally to things they have no understanding of.

6) Are you a gun owner?
7) Are you a registered Republican, or do you consider yourself to be at least somewhat Conservative?

I’d bet another tube of caulk that those last two questions would hit at least 75%.

Oh, and PS Barry: a very strong majority of Americans were extremely vocal about not wanting your damned Obamacare. And we got it anyway. Was that another pretty shameful day in Washington??

PPS - Somebody please tell me how a bipartisan bill with 86% or more public approval can be controversial? “Thoroughly debated” I can see. “The will of the people” I can see. But controversial? When 9 out of 10 citizens want it, according to our ever-honest and transparent President??

but crime is going down we are told. no, the reports are but the crimes are not.

ok, we’ve had axes and clubs and feet and fists and of course, knives. Even razors.
Maybe this will start a new trend here.
The meat cleaver.
Take a look.

image

Police are searching for car-jackers who threatened a motorist with a meat cleaver before stealing his vehicle.

Officers said the thuggish duo threw a bottle at a moving car in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

The VW Polo stopped and the 19-year-old driver and his passenger were approached by two men.

Officers said the driver was then dragged out of the car and his passenger was assaulted before the men got in the Polo and drove off.
The cleaver-wielding men abandoned a short time later and fled

The vehicle was abandoned soon after and both men ran off along Tonge Moor Road.

One man is described as being dark skinned, 6ft tall, well built, in his late teens or early 20s and had short light brown hair.

He wore a grey hooded top and dark-coloured jeans.

The other was slim and was wearing a white shirt and dark-coloured jumper.

Police have issued CCTV images of two men following the incident.

Detective Constable Dave Harris said: ‘The offenders showed extreme aggression towards their victims and they are lucky they did not suffer more serious injuries.

‘Understandably, both have been left shaken after this attack.

‘We believe this was a random attack and I would ask members of the community to be vigilant.

‘We are unsure why the Polo was abandoned a short time later and we are asking for witnesses to come forward.

‘The two images we have are very clear and I believe that someone within the local community will recognise them.

So if they catch the miserable punks, what’s the worst?  A year on remand? Community service? A year in jail? Whatever.

Thug carried out attack after his mother’s £2.80 cider was knocked over

A thug who left a mother paralysed after a petty row over a spilt drink has been out enjoying his freedom just 15 months after he was jailed for three and a half years.

Claire Hilton, 30, broke her neck in three places and was left with a severely damaged spinal cord after being attacked by Christopher Towers, 25, outside a pub in Boldon, Tyne and Wear.

When he was finally locked up in January last year, Claire thought she had seen the last of Towers for a long time.

But he has recently been enjoying weekend release from prison and is set to be let out of jail altogether imminently - just over a third of the way through his sentence.

Claire, who is forced to rely on a team of carers to help her get through the day, was shocked when she spotted a picture of Towers outside prison on Facebook.

After learning he was out, she asked: ‘Is just over a year (in prison) all my life is worth?’

The attacker was pictured half-naked with a comment underneath which read: ‘Finally with my boy’.

Claire believes the picture was posted by Towers’ girlfriend Kelly McKone who was also involved in the attack which left her paralysed.

Distraught, she contacted the police who told her that Towers had been out on weekend licence from jail when the picture appeared on Friday April 5.

The officer explained that he was due to be released shortly and that as part of his preparation he would be spending a weekend on the outside every 28 days.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
