Words Fail Me

Not really sure what to write about today. Nothing in the news is really piquing my interest, and I haven’t run across any really interesting alternate stories.

I saw this at The Other McCain and I don’t think I agree with it. Not sure where my comments went to, but I can’t say that Coates’ article on racism is completely uncalled for, although I wish the story that he uses as his vehicle - actor Forest Whittaker frisked for shoplifting at a NY deli - had enough information so that the reader could form a better judgment. On the other hand, one commenter noted (vaguely, and my comment there seems to have evaporated) that Coates also wrote this piece on the Civil War. I found myself in agreement with most of that essay with just a couple of rough spots, though in fairness his perspective is not mine and was news to me. Easy enough for me to contrast that essay with the rougher edged ones at Stuff Black People don’t like, concerning the history and current public perception of those Tuskegee Airmen. I know the Tuskegee story has been inflated quite a bit, some outright whoppers being accepted as truth, and it’s the rare essayist who looks a bit further back in history to see that it was blatant racist President Woodrow Wilson (D) who segregated the armed forces. They weren’t segregated during the Spanish-American War as far as I know, and I’ve heard few tales of how good or bad that was. (but then, the SAW is a conflict even more forgotten than the Korean War). And if I had to, I weigh the Stuff Black People Don’t Like blog in the balance and come down a bit on the racist side. A bit, because I don’t really think the author is a neo-Klansman, just a White Guy Who Is Fed Up With The BS. His comment section is open to the public, uncensored, so I can’t hold him responsible for more extreme views some folks leave there. After all, with New Nation News being shut down, those folks have to find somewhere else to vent. And I will admit that I feel that a whole lot of Black Problems have very significant Black Causes, and that yes, it does very often seem that we are living in “BRA”. And that it has gone too far. Your opinions and mileage may vary. So that’s my deep thoughts of the day.

More of the never ending moronic lunacy in the school systems, with some kid’s cupcakes being ousted because he decorated them with plastic army guys. Because, you know, soldiers have guns and all that. :eyeroll:  If I was a parent there, I’d be more concerned about germs from the plastic toys. All that stuff comes from China, and Confucius only knows what kind of germ crusted crap they’re made of. At least the kid wasn’t arrested. This time.

With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, here’s a decent recipe for Boxty.  Every northern European culture has its own recipe for potato pancakes, and the Irish claim Boxty as theirs. It looks like a good way to deal with leftovers, though I’d want to add a touch of onion. But like so many other ‘tater cake recipes, they drain out the tasty juice and throw it away. Which is why a proper batch of Raggmunk is always better, and the best excuse ever for owning a proper kartoffelreibe.

So there you go.

Looks like Saturn, the word-ending-terror-snowstorm, has finally arrived here. It’s been snowing gently all morning, about 2”, but it looks like things are melting already.

Douche News

Ever feel like you’re being managed? Like your opinions are being formed for you by somebody else?

Got an opinion about voter fraud? Think maybe that multi-voters ought to be prosecuted? Think perhaps that a huge piece of the dirty voting is going on in the big cities, perhaps amongst the “urban poor”?

Well, here you go then. You foul opinion holder, you.

Foggy Granny Gets The Bite Put On: 86 y/o Charged With Multi-Voting

An 86-year-old Minnesota woman who suffers from dementia is facing a felony voting fraud charge after she says she accidentally voted twice.

Margaret Schneider tells MyFoxTwinCities.com she forgot she had already sent in her absentee ballot when she went to her polling place in November.

“It’s very hard to remember everything,” Schneider said.

Schneider says the matter is particularly upsetting to her because she considers herself a proud American and has voted in every election.

“I’ve always voted, ever since I’ve been old enough to,” she said.

The criminal complaint against Schneider says records show she submitted her absentee ballot in July. It claims the roster book at her polling place had the letters “AB” next to her name, signifying that Schneider had already cast an absentee ballot.

This aspect of the case is frustrating for Schneider.

“Why didn’t they tell me to go home? That’s what I’m trying to figure out,” she told MyFoxTwinCities.com.

The county attorney tells the station she had no choice but to file charges against Schneider, saying she could even lose her job if she refused to.

“If I have probable cause to believe the crime occurred, I do not have discretion to charge,” Michelle Zehnder Fischer said. “I have to charge it.”

Fischer says she has no interest in putting Schneider in jail, and she hopes the case is resolved quickly.

Schneider says she never would have intentionally voted twice.

“It’s against the law to do that,” she said.

I’m sure there’s a more technical, more appropriate name for this kind of news delivery. Douche News. It fits. But it’s opinion management nonetheless, whether the management is from the story itself or from the reporting done on it. Addled old grannies in friggin’ backwoods Minnesota. And “I had no choice other than to have her charged, I hope she doesn’t have to go to jail”.

Total crock of crap.

Absolute BS.

Maybe this is Douche News because it points out that it’s Zehnder Fischer who’s the real DB here.

The person to arrest was the election worker.

Granny’s voter book had already been marked “AB”, meaning she had voted Absentee. So, no way in Heck anyone should have allowed her to vote AT ALL. Hey Michelle Zinder Fischer: you have probable cause, you’ve got the evidence in your hands, and I don’t see how you could have any discretion here at all. ARREST YOUR POLL WORKER(S) and open a can-o-worms investigation to see how many other “AB” voters they let slip through. And push for maximum punishment. And push for vote negation for your district. Because this was NO ACCIDENT. They’re the gatekeepers, and they are the ones who let the barbarians in. Although this particular barbarian probably showed up with some nice potato pancakes with lingonberry jam to pass around.

Douche.

Morning Stomp

Odd thought I had on waking - unless you’re Jack Black, it would be pretty tough to politely hum this little ditty in the office elevator. Pretty tough. Easy for Jack because he wouldn’t even try to contain himself. And that’s what this one is all about.
No, it’s ‘put on your big boots and go stomping around’ music. Good and loud, with extra vim and vigor.

I got the Strike Ball last night at Cheap League. Put $15 in my pocket, so that covered the cost of bowling. I didn’t feel up to playing the brackets, so I let that slide. Smart me; Arnie rolled out a 267 and Duke finished up with a 258, so I never would have stood a chance.  On the other hand, I rocked in a smaller way last night, coming in 13 over average with a very steady 579 series; I was only +/- a half dozen points between all three games. I like that. It means I may have found a new plateau.

We played a team full of beginners, so we had to give them a tremendous handicap. 175 pins, which is like an entire extra bowler on their side. My whole team was there, the Text Kids too, and she was actually fairly pleasant when I was all supportive and observational in her direction. He still barely acknowledges my existence. And I outbowled him all over the place. So, sod him. We took games 1 and 2 by a bit more than 100 pins each; my whole team was rolling pretty well. Game 3 Text Girl had to go home early so we had to use her 10 under absentee score, Text Boy threw a 25 under, and my wife was 30 or so under too. I pulled out all the stops and threw the deuce, but just barely with a 203. So with a total of 265 pins heading their way, the newbies beat us by about 68 pins that last game. So we went 5-2, which is still Ok. Had a decent time talking with their team, so it was a good night.

And we took 5 and I threw a 196 average all night and I won $15 in the strike ball. Good enough. Put on your big boots and go stomping around. It’s happy time.

I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad
But I knew life before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Heap big woman you made a fat boy out of me

I’ve been singing with my band
Across the wire across the land
I seen ev’ry blue eyed floozy on the way
But their beauty and their style
Went kind of smooth after a while
Take me to them dirty ladies every time

Oh won’t you take me home tonight?
Oh down beside your red firelight
Oh and you give it all you got
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round

Umbrella FAIL

But It Worked For Mary Poppins!

I think he needs a stronger umbrella, and some kind of rope to dangle from to slow the oscillations.

I also think this is a damned dangerous video to show any small boy with a wild imagination. Which is nearly all of them I think.

ACLU Does The Right Thing?

ACLU opens a national investigation into the militarization of the police. How much has gone on? Who is behind it? Is it necessary? And to what use is all this being put?

It’s almost certain that if the police agencies cooperate, the ACLU will find that the militarization trend has accelerated since Kraska’s studies more than a decade ago. All of the policies, incentives and funding mechanisms that were driving the trend then are still in effect now. And most of them have grown in size and scope.

The George W. Bush administration actually began scaling down the Byrne and COPS programs in the early 2000s, part of a general strategy of leaving law enforcement to states and localities. But the Obama administration has since resurrected both programs. The Byrne program got a $2 billion surge in funding as part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, by far the largest budget in the program’s 25-year history. Obama also gave the COPS program $1.55 billion that same year, a 250 percent increase over its 2008 budget, and again the largest budget in the program’s history. Vice President Joe Biden had championed both programs during his time in the Senate.

The Pentagon’s 1033 program has also exploded under Obama. In the program’s monthly newsletter (Motto: “From Warfighter to Crimefighter"), its director announced in October 2011 that his office had given away a record $500 million in military gear in fiscal year 2011, which he noted, “passes the previous mark by several hundred million dollars.” He added, “I believe we can exceed that in FY 12.”

Then there are the Department of Homeland Security’s anti-terrorism grants. The Center for Investigative Reporting found in a 2011 investigation that since 2001, DHS has given out more than $34 billion in grants to police departments across the country, many of which have been used to purchase military-grade guns, tanks, armor, and armored personnel carriers. The grants have gone to such unlikely terrorism targets as Fargo, N.D.; Canyon County, Idaho; and Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Since the 1990s, the Pentagon has made military equipment available to local police departments for free or at steep discounts. This, along with drug war-related policies, has spurred a trend toward a more militarized domestic police force in America. Law enforcement and elected officials have argued for years that better-armed, high-powered police departments are needed to fight the war on drugs.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks, the war on terror has accelerated the trend toward militarization.

Just a few days ago there was the story about DHS buying and refurbishing several THOUSAND MRAP armored ‘mini-tank’ vehicles. To go along with their billions of bullets they’ve ordered.

And now we’ve got Holder and Obama with the drones thing, believing that they can target and execute any American at any time without any kind of due process. And the drones are already up there, flying about. And we only have their word that they aren’t armed in some way.

I’m no flower carrying hippie, but all this makes me want to beat my bongos in protest. We’re living in a police state man. The Man is out of control, man. Like, for real.  And the President seems to be complaining that he’s not the Emperor. Excuse me, what??

I’m pretty sure that the cops in my sleepy little no-crime town of about 5,000 folks do not have a tank. But we have a police force of about two dozen officers, some with possible ‘roid rage, which seems rather a lot. And every patrol car has every kind of computer gee-whiz gizmo made inside, right next to the M16, and all the cars have those crash bar things on the front for offense driving. And of course the bullet-proof vests and the hi-cap pistols with the double magazine belt buckle and 2 more on the utility belt with the tazers and the tear gas. The local paper runs the Crime Blotter, and about the worst thing that ever happens here is a couple of inebriated drivers or some punk kids getting caught with a little bag of weed. I know the county does have a highly militarized SWAT team, and those guys have a large and very heavy duty vehicle. But that’s all I know about it.

image

If you think it’s somnolent here, we’re the happening Bright Lights Big City compared to Doylestown PA, a little crossroads village across the Delaware nearby. And they have, or have access to, a genuine APC. An Armored Personnel Carrier. Once in a while they need it, when one of NJ’s heavily armed cops goes wild. It’s all out of control and ungroovy, man. Posse Comitatus or not, I don’t want the local plod to be armed and armored like soldiers. It’s too damn much power and they will abuse it. They’re already far too big for their britches as it is, and long ago gave up any semblance of Community Policing With Your Friendly Town Officers. No. Now they are Teh Authority. And you’d better obey.

Peaceful, Loving England

Minutes After Boarding Bus To School

16 yo Girl Stabbed To Death By Stranger

image

Christina Edkins, murdered this morning

Public Cries Out For “Knife Control”

“End Knife Violence Now”

image

her killer, 22, in custody

Nation Aghast, But Not One Call Of “Race Crime” or “Hate Crime” or Similar

Tributes were paid today to a 16-year-old girl stabbed to death as she travelled to school on a busy bus in Birmingham city centre.

Christina Edkins was attacked on the top deck of the number 9 First West Midlands service as it pulled into a stop on the Hagley Road at 7.37am.

She had only been on the bus for a matter of minutes as she made her way to Leasowes High School in Halesowen.

Officers and paramedics rushed to the scene after the bus driver reported that a passenger had been wounded.

But despite frantic efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 22-year-old man was arrested a short distance away on suspicion of her murder at 12.20pm - around five hours after the attack.

He was held near Morrisons in Harborne Road during a foot chase after officers spotted someone acting ‘furtively’ who fitted the description of the suspect.

Police had earlier described the suspect as ‘extremely dangerous’ and feared he may still be carrying weapons.

Detective Superintendent Richard Baker, of West Midlands Police, said they had been looking for a black man in his late teens or early 20s who was wearing a black hoodie with a tiger or leopard motif on the back.

Det Supt Baker said he also had either a white bandage around his right hand or was carrying a small white bag.

Another day, another tragic death. Murder most foul, for no reason whatsoever. But let’s blame the knife. That’s the real culprit.

Read the article, which has lots of (non-gory) pictures, and read the hundreds of comments.

Just last month, on the morning of 8 February, ChristinaEdkins tweeted about a man who was “worrying” her on a bus journey.

She said: “This man is worrying me on the bus keeps getting up and walking up and down stairs, and sitting in different place:|”

Neil Shaw, the headteacher of the school, said: “Christina was a bright and popular student much loved by staff and students alike.

“We are deeply saddened to hear this tragic news and our thoughts and hearts go out to her family and everyone who knew her.

“There will be a high police presence across the city this afternoon following this morning’s tragedy, particularly on buses and in schools in the area to provide reassurance to local people.”

Police launched a hunt for a black man in his late teens or early 20s, warning the public to be “vigilant”.

A second man was detained by police in connection with the stabbing but later released without arrest.

Mr Baker said police were investigating the possibility that the murder was a random attack, adding: “We’re looking at a number of motives at the moment.”

If Obama had a daughter she wouldn’t look anything like Christina

This is a terrible, senseless thing. The deranged and violent walk among us, armed. You don’t have to do a thing to become a victim, not even make eye contact. Obviously telling them “no” or telling them not to kill doesn’t work. At all. And even with massive nationwide gun control, horrifying violent crime still goes on every day in the UK. Even if race isn’t a factor at all.

The Perils of On-Demand Cable TV

What the UK has felt since Christmas

What the rest of the US has felt for a month now

I just experienced tonight

You Suck, Dan Stevens

UK Telegraph link from just after Christmas.  (if you haven’t watched the series yet, don’t click this link)

Why yes, my middle name really is “Late to the party again, eh?”. How did you know?

But seriously ... we watched the whole 3 seasons of Downton Abbey in the past 2 weeks. After this, I’m afraid future plot lines will be just as worn out as those for this entire season of Spartacus, which is pretty bad. It’s over, just let it go.

What, is Al Gore back in DC?

Happy Headline of the Day:

D.C. snowstorm scrubs global-warming hearing

The snowquester has claimed yet another casualty: Wednesday’s House hearing on global warming.

The House Science, Space and Technology Committee announced early Wednesday that it’s postponing its environmental subcommittee’s scheduled 10 a.m. hearing on the state of the science behind climate change. As a reason, it cited “weather.”

Now Joining Me On My Perpetual Soapbox, Mr. Bill Whittle

Oooh, I just love it when one of the Big Boys agrees with me. Here’s our favorite Virtual President speaking out on the elections process and voter ID.

I’ll take it a step further. Not only voter ID with a photograph on it, but Voter ID with a full NICS check and an SSN check as part of the process. And you have to get a new ID every 4 years. To make certain that no illegal aliens vote. To make certain no convicted felons vote. To make certain that Snowbirds only have one vote. And what the hell ... if you act now, you get a free CCW or FOID with your registration if your state requires them, although you may have to submit a digital fingerprint to activate those.

No more absentee ballots, period. Lock down the candidates 60 days prior to any election; if your party’s candidate drops out, dies, or gets incarcerated, then the alternate - who was also part of the primary! - then steps in. Ex-pats and overseas military vote 2-3 weeks ahead of everyone, to give their ballots plenty of time to get back here and into the system. Open the voting a month before “Vote Counting Day”. County workers go out to the hospitals and nursing homes with a digital gizmo to allow the fully incapacitated to cast their ballots. All the data goes into the system, and when the clock strikes midnight in Hawaii the entire country’s ballots are counted and the figures released. Which should take about 7 seconds, but give it overnight just to make sure, and then the results hit the airwaves with the 6am news.

Freedom is not free. The very smallest cost of freedom is responsibility. If you won’t step up, then step out.

Six Months Too Slow Buttheads

(R) Lawmakers demand access to survivors injured in Benghazi attack

Six months after the Sept. 11 terror attack in Benghazi, Republican lawmakers are fuming that they haven’t been granted access to the survivors – several of whom, Fox News has learned, are still recovering at Walter Reed.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told Fox News on Wednesday that he spoke to a “handful of people” when he visited Libya shortly after the attack but has struggled to gain access to the survivors ever since.

“We want talk to the survivors—they won’t do that. And then the president has the gall to go on television and say ‘oh, we’re providing all the access’? Baloney. Bull-crap. That is not happening.”

Estimates of how many Americans were injured in the Libya assault vary.

Reps. Frank Wolf, R-Va., and Jim Gerlach, R-Pa., claim sources have told them up to 30 were injured, and up to seven may still be at Walter Reed. “Several may have required amputations,” they wrote in a letter to colleagues last week.

A source close to the survivors, though, told Fox News that seven were injured – not 30 – and that at least three are still at Walter Reed. Another may be recovering in California. The source said one of the injured underwent a partial leg amputation. Another is suffering from smoke inhalation and possible brain injury.

Fox News has been told that some of the survivors work in clandestine services and do not want their names made public, though they do wonder why nobody from key committees has called them in for closed hearings to testify on what transpired that night.

You sominabatching morunes. You fargin iceholes. There ought to have been a full blown committee there to meet these guys the day after they came out of surgery. This whole situation is a disgusting catastrophe. And I blame the worthless, comingled* backstabbing Republicans for this entirely. They should have been wailing like air raid sirens, every damn one of them, 24-7, from the moment this fiasco went down. And the truth should have been DRAGGED out of the administration and all the Secret Squirrel alphabet SpyBoy agencies no later than late September. And impeachment hearings begun immediately for the total bullshit story sphinctered out all over the American public. It may have turned the tide of the election.  It ought to have caused a massive pogrom at State. Instead, Boner and his band of knee-pad wearing corksnockers just rolled over on their backs and let the country be lied to and the media allowed to bury the story. And let that lying muslime jizzstain get re-elected.

Worthless bastiges.

* yes, comingled. Like you do with your recycling: several different kinds of worthless garbage mixed together in a dirty dumpster.

Hugo Takes The Bit Dirt Nap

One Down, One To Go

image

U.S. officials quickly cast Hugo Chavez’s death as an opportunity for America to rebuild a relationship with Venezuela and for the country itself to pursue “meaningful democratic reforms,” with President Obama heralding a “new chapter” in the Latin American country’s history.

Chavez, who had been battling cancer since 2011, died Tuesday after 14 years in power. An election is expected to be held in 30 days – the transition marks one of the first major challenges for newly appointed Secretary of State John Kerry.

Obama kept a measured tone in a statement released Tuesday evening.

“At this challenging time of President Hugo Chavez’s passing, the United States reaffirms its support for the Venezuelan people and its interest in developing a constructive relationship with the Venezuelan government,” Obama said. “As Venezuela begins a new chapter in its history, the United States remains committed to policies that promote democratic principles, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill were less reserved.

“Hugo Chavez was a tyrant who forced the people of Venezuela to live in fear,” Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a written statement. “His death dents the alliance of anti-U.S. leftist leaders in South America. Good riddance to this dictator.”

It’s just a damn shame that his people didn’t rise up and Ghaddafi him. Too bad. And I’m sure most of Hollywood is in deep mourning today, the filthy commies.

Onto more important matters ... I think my chicken is done cooking on the grill.

rough morning

Hard to get any bandwidth this morning. I think they closed school because the big old End Times snowstorm is headed this way. Snowpocalypse!! Snowmageddon!!! We’re All Gonna Diiiiiiiee!!!!
So all the school kiddies are online or something. Internet is slow slow slow.

Bah, humbug. But I went shopping anyway, and now I’ve got chicken going on the grill. In case we lose power again. Whatever.

We got skunked at Greed League again last night. We “managed” to lose all 3 games by just a hair. Even though we “managed” to stay even or ahead until the 8th frame. The team we bowled is way better than we are, and they “managed” to beat us handily while at the same time not bowling one bit better than they needed to.

Damn, I hate being “managed”. It’s like cheating. Sand bagging. hate it.

Maybe Small Pistols Will Be Next

Pack Up Your Weapons In Your Old Kit Bag

And Fly, Fly, Fly

TSA changes rules: knives with 2.36” blades, small baseball bats, and lacrosse sticks now OK as part of carry-on luggage.

Why? Because it’s too much effort for baggage screeners to search and seize them. Seriously. Going through your luggage searching for weapons is too hard for government agents who are employed to go through your luggage searching for weapons.

The Transportation Security Administration announced Tuesday that U.S. airline passengers will soon be allowed to carry small knives in their carry-on bags, a move that prompted swift condemnation from a flight attendants union.

The union for Southwest Airlines flight attendants called the decision “dangerous” and “designed to make the lives of TSA staff easier, but not make flights safer.”

The changes were made public by TSA Administrator John Pistole during an aviation conference in New York.

Starting April 25, passengers going through U.S. airports can bring on board Swiss Army-type knives—specifically, ones with blades no longer than 2.36 inches.

Pistole told the audience that TSA screeners at the Los Angeles International Airport alone seized roughly 47 such knives a day over the last three months of 2012, according to Air Transportation World.

“Frankly, I don’t want TSA agents to be delayed by these,” he said.

The agency said the changes were made as part of its “overall risk-based security approach” and to align with the international standards and those of European countries.

Among the other items also allowed on board are lacrosse sticks, ski poles and small, souvenir baseball bats.

Under the TSA decision, however, box-cutter type knives used by the 9/11 hijackers are still prohibited. Razors as well as knives with molded grips also are still banned.

Now there’s government brains at work. Box cutters rarely have more than an inch of exposed blade, but they’re still bad. But pocket knives - I’m assuming “molded grips” means a fixed blade knife but I’d want clarification - are still Ok.

Now, is that 2.36” worth of cutting edge, or 2.36” from the tip to the choil or the front of the ricasso, or is that 2.36” from the tip to the hinge pin? And what makes a knife a “Swiss Army” knife? Does it have to be made by Wagner or Victorinox, or does it have to have red plastic sides with a white cross on them, or does it mean that the knife needs a plethora of blades? And how many is a plethora? And what about handle size? And blade locking arrangements?  Because I’m now invisioning a beefy handled knife with a thick wide double edged blade, 2.36” long, that locks into open position on each end of the handle, with a locking spike or two or three that can be opened in the middle, brass knuckle style.

And those souvenir baseball bats - can they have carrying straps or lead inserts for added balance? Do they have to be made of wood, or can metal souvenir bats be Ok? How about solid metal? Because damn ... after years of this TSA crap, make it legal and I WILL go armed on an airplane. And everyone else ought to as well. To the very limit of the letter of the law. Can we have souvenir shields or bucklers too? You know, only one strap, under 2lbs, and 12” diameter or less, with only 1 pointy bit in the middle?

Frankly, I don’t think TSA agents should be delayed by pocket pistols under .499 caliber, 18 ounces unloaded weight, 4.75” barrels, or with 8 or fewer rounds capacity. As long as they’re loaded with frangible bullets, of course.

How about it, Pistole? Gimme my little pistoles?

Sooner or later, it had to happenF

For once, the guns did it

Shotgun and Rifle work together to stop truck thief. Stopped him dead.

West Salem OR man accidentally killed by AR-15 he had just stolen

A man was killed when an AR-15 rifle he had just stolen from a Polk County farm discharged Sunday morning, police said.

Deputies responding to the report of a gunshot victim in the 5600 block of Halls Ferry Road found the suspect, 19-year-old Genaro Hernandez Mendoza of West Salem, dead inside a farm truck, said Polk County Sheriff’s Office Detective John Williams.

Investigators learned that the truck had been stolen from a home on Independence Highway earlier that morning, along with a rifle, a shotgun and several other items.

“The evidence showed that while Hernandez Mendoza was driving away from the scene he was the victim of an accidental, self-inflicted gun shot wound from the rifle he had just taken,” Williams said.

Williams added that the AR-15 rifle and the shotgun were both angled with their butts on the floorboard and their barrels pointed upward, toward the driver’s seat. On the bumpy farm road, the bolt head of the shotgun apparently bumped against the rifle’s trigger, firing one shot that hit the suspect and exited through the roof.

The suspect seemed to have acted alone in the burglary, Sheriff Bob Wolfe said.

That would be the bolt handle, the “sticky outy bit that goes back”, not the bolt head. Not to be confused with “the shoulder thing that goes up”.

Scratch one felon. Neither weapon has been arrested.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
