Gun Control explained by Straight Forward In A Crooked World.

Don’t you feel safer already? Phew!

The article at the above link is worth reading too, and gives you a link to Obozo’s Now is the time fiesta of crappola.

Remember, “require background checks for all firearms sales or transfers” really means a) full firearms registration, and b) elimination of your right to do what you want with your own private property (ie buy it and sell it). As we used to say back in the long ago, it’s a commie plot.

On a real one, the outer black circle is just under 11.5mm across

T-shirt design by 1791 Apparel. Sweet. Speaks volumes to those already in the know, and goes right over the heads of the not-very-curious-or-conversational. Like the hoplophobic dullards I bowl with on Cheap League. Too bad 1791 doesn’t have a similar shirt for other popular models, but they do have a fair number of other designs that you might like.

And yes, if you’re looking at 1791’s new stuff, Han Solo’s blaster was nothing more than a C96 broomhandle with the flash hider from an M1 Carbine attached and some plonk scope screwed on. Funny how a 125 year old “assault pistol” design can be replicated in a galaxy far, far away.

A Flanking Attack

No, I’m not posting on that turbo-moron Feinstein’s anti-freedom bill she introduced. In anything close to a sane America she’d be laughed right out of DC. But this is no longer sane America, is the far-left neo-Marxist Obamerika. So anything goes, and if that utterly unconstitutional piece of crap known as Obamacare not only passed but survived examination by the Supreme Court - all due to the turncoat actions of ONE SINGLE MAN - then I would not hazard a guess as to whether DiFi’s insult to America will flourish or founder. At best it’s a crap shoot. But meanwhile, here’s another assault on guns, and an assault on legitimate business at the same time.

It is SO time to push that Reset Button, and push it HARD.

Guns Dealers Turned Away By Credit Card Processing Companies

First it was Bank of America. Now this.

LEIPER’S FORK, Tenn. - A Williamson County gun dealer recently learned a credit card processing company no longer wants to do business with him.

“We go through all the hoops and all the steps and at the end of the day it’s still a struggle to get the same services anybody else would,” said Nick McMillan.

He owns Leiper’s Fork Firearms. It is a small gun dealership McMillan runs out of his home.

“We’re set up like a business, just like every other small business out there,” he said.

McMillan is a has a federal firearms license and is heavily regulated by both the state and federal governments.

But McMillan received an email from Intuit Payment solutions informing him the company was no longer interested in processing his credit card sales.

“They either reviewed several accounts, or it was a company wide policy, because I wasn’t the only federal firearms license dealer that got pushed out the other day,” McMillan said.

In the email the company wrote “Intuit does not support the services you are providing” and then the reason stated was firearms, ammunition, gun parts and accessories sales not sold in a face-to-face environment with the credit card being swiped.

McMillan does not know the exact reason behind the policy change, but speculated the nationwide gun debate may be behind the move.

“I think companies like this are so afraid of any negative publicity they’d rather not participate,” McMillan said.

The small business owner said the move by Intuit will not stop him from selling guns.

“Intuit Processing isn’t my only option, I am set up with another company that’s a lot more friendly to the industry,” said McMillan.

He does feel as if the company is discriminating against federally licensed gun dealers.

“It’s up to them who they provide the service to, at the end of the day,

Golly gee, it’s almost too bad the guy was able to find another processing center. Otherwise he would have had to become a cash-only business, which would provide an even lower level of firearms purchase traceability.

For all morons, sheep, low information voters, willfully blind persons and liberals (but I repeat myself), there is no such thing as a direct online sale of firearms in the USA, nor has there been since 1968. The Gun Control Act of 1968 made guns by mail illegal, and internet sales are no different than the old paper catalog sales. Any firearm purchased MUST be shipped to a federally licensed gun dealer, almost always at the buyer’s cost (~$40) and then a NICS check is run on the buyer before the sale is completed. Period. Full stop. No Ifs, Ands, or Buts. The whole “online sales” thing is bullshit smoke and mirrors designed to upset the stupid and unaware, and to get them to react emotionally. Which is how Leftism works: if anyone ever stopped and thought anything through, they’d never get a single vote.

turds chase troops and shout yankee go home. Ermm, they’re germans though

Not too much on words last couple of days. Happened upon this.  Have to feel sorry for the Germans here. Or anyone else being chased by blood thirsty stone age muslims.

The mob thought they were Americans and gave chase.

Are we giving any foreign aid to Turkey?  Hmmm. That’s the problem. Not giving enough.

Don’t bother with the sound, unless you happen to understand the gibberish those folks speak.

Angry Turks chase NATO German Soldiers on the Streets of Iskenderun

Posted by Jim Hoft

German soldiers manning Patriot missile batteries on the Turkish-Syrian border were attacked by an angry mob of nationalist protesters.

The Turks thought the soldiers were Americans and were chanting, “Yankee, go home!”

After some 40 people surrounded the soldiers in the southern town of Iskenderun, one German reportedly had a bag containing white powder thrown over his head. Four other soldiers managed remained unscathed and all five made it back to their army quarters after Turkish security forces arrived. All of the Germans were in civilian clothing at the time of the incident.

While the authorities stepped in quickly enough to prevent things from escalating further, similar attacks have happened in the past on foreign soldiers on Turkish soil.

Thought to be from the Turkey Youth Union (TGB), a nationalist youth organisation, members have been known to throw bags over NATO soldiers in the past in reference to the treatment of Turkish soldiers captured by US forces during the 2003 Iraq war.

The German soldiers manning Patriot missiles on the border are part of a NATO mission requested at the end of 2012 by the Turkish government to help protect against attack during growing unrest in Syria.

AND IN OTHER NEWS

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Final blast of the big freeze to hit rush hour tonight with up to four inches of snowfall due across UK in 12-hour blitz before the thaw

Band of heavy snow will sit over Midlands, North, Wales and Scotland before temperatures rise overnight
Up to 7ins of snow will fall over high ground in parts of the country, with many areas getting 4ins by late tonight
But Saturday will see temperatures soar to as high as 9C when snow and ice will start to thaw
On Sunday rain warnings are in place for most of the UK and heavy rain is predicted to cause flooding
Deaths due to cold hits double figures after man found dead in freezing Suffolk woodland

By Larisa Brown and Anna Edwards

The cold-spell that has gripped Britain for more than a week will give a final ferocious bite this afternoon as a band of heavy snow will sit over much of Britain and dump up to 4ins (10cm) over many areas.

Roads are likely to be treacherous during rush hour for millions of motorists trying to get home for the weekend, while rail services and flights could also be disrupted.

The Met Office has put out amber warnings for the north of England, east of England and East and West Midlands, and much of Scotland, where there are already blizzards. Yellow warnings hang over Wales, south west England and London and the South East.

It warned that strong winds will also lead to drifting and blizzard-like conditions, particularly over higher level roads in the north. Head of special operations at the AA Darron Burness said: ‘It looks likely that the current cold spell will go out with a bang’.

This will be the final 12-hour blast of snow for most of Britain, with temperatures to reach up to 9C accompanied by gusts of wind reaching 50mph in exposed areas during a warmer spell lasting until at least Wednesday.

But forecasters now fear flooding tomorrow, as heavy rain moves in and rising temperatures spark a rapid thaw of the built-up snow and ice.

Let No Crisis Go To Waste

Marion Iowa Cops Buying Assault Weapons

Police in one Iowa city could soon be buying their own assault rifles to carry in squad cars to ensure they aren’t outgunned by criminals in the wake of several high-profile shootings involving semi-automatic AR-15s, FoxNews.com has learned.

Half of the 50-member force in Marion, Iowa, will take part in the upgrade, paying for the $2,000 guns in installments deducted from their paychecks, according to Police Chief Harry Daugherty. He said the proposal, expected to be approved by the city’s seven-member City Council late Thursday, will mean initial responders will have enough firepower to deal with heavily armed suspects. Currently, only members of Marion’s 12-member SWAT team carry AR-15s.

“We can’t wait for SWAT to get there,” Daugherty told FoxNews.com. “We have to do something and, at this point, the chances of the assailant having more firepower [than responding officers] is greater than vice versa. I want them to at least be on the same playing field when we’re going into these types of situations.”

Marion, a city in eastern Iowa with roughly 38,000 residents, had zero recorded homicides in 2012, Daugherty said. The proposal to equip half of the department’s officers with high-powered assault rifles is not in response to any threat, he said, though he noted semi-automatic weapons were used in several recent shootings, including last summer’s massacre at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater, the December shootings at an elementary school in Connecticut and an ambush of two firefighters in upstate New York.

“They’re not going to be pulling out this weapon unless they absolutely need it,” Daugherty said. “But if something comes up, it’s nice to know that you’re on the same plane as what you’re dealing with.”

So, let’s militarize the local po-po because we can. Not that there’s the slightest need, or even the smallest threat. Hey, why not get them grenade launchers and armored mini-tanks while you’re at it? You know, just in case!

On the other hand, where have these guys been since 9/11? I didn’t think there was a cop car left in America without a Bushmaster in the front seat. Every other police department between here and Anchorage Alaska went “up armor” more than a decade ago. So this Johnny Come Lately bunch makes the same decision, finally, and now it’s news? Huh???

Marion officers are currently equipped with shotguns and either a 9-mm. handgun or a 40-caliber Glock. City officials provide everything but the officer’s sidearm, Daugherty said, and are now considering changing that policy as well to include the roughly $500 cost.

Gak. Have none of these people ever even seen the word “logistics”? You do NOT outfit your troops with two different weapons systems. Just in case they should ever have to share ammunition. It’s a minor point given a police force of 50 or 62 cops, but still. Use your brains, m’kay?

Not everyone welcomed the news, however, of potentially seeing much more firepower on the streets of Marion.

Jennifer Rockwell told KWWL.com the proposal was a bit too much.

“The protection that we have now is significant, bringing in more guns is just asking for more trouble,” Rockwell told the website.

Daugherty disagreed with that sentiment, saying he “needs to sleep at night,” too.

“What we’re proposing here, this makes sense,” he told FoxNews.com. “The situations that are out there nowadays, this is what they’re dealing with. I hope they never have to pull it, but they will be trained and qualified to do so if they do. If something happens at one of our schools, I just don’t want to send my officers into a situation where they’re set up to fail.”

“It’s for the children!” Double gak, dragging out that old trope. It’s an excuse for a power grab, that’s all. Just like post-9/11 was, and now our cities are filled with Robo-Cop officers in head to foot armor carrying machine guns. That’s the new normal we “needed” then. And like TSA and all the BS travelers have to go through at the airports, it hasn’t done a damn bit of good.

So now the corn belt cops need assault weapons so they can sleep at night, but you should have no right to them yourself, and probably be forced to turn yours in. Let no crisis go to waste, and seize power wherever you can. The little people can’t and won’t do anything to stop it.

Dealing With Liberals

Well, we lost all 7 at Cheap League last night. We played a team of two couples where both the husbands are superb bowlers who can throw whatever scores they want at any time, and use this league to practice their sandbagging. So no matter how we bowled, they managed to beat us by the smallest handful of points each game. 2. 7. 19. On the other hand, we didn’t always bowl our best, and two of our members bowled well below average 5 games out of 6. Rats. That’s how it goes sometimes.

But here’s the odd thing. The other couple on our team, a young couple recently married and nearly half our age, was giving us the silent treatment. Seriously. They completely ignored us the entire night, and wouldn’t even make eye contact. WTH??

I’m sure it’s all my fault. Yeah right. I am a competitive person. I like to win, and I like the challenge of going all out, doing my very best, to get there. I cheer on my teammates when they do well, and commiserate with them when they don’t. I know that this is just “fun league”, so I try to keep my emotional involvement as limited as possible, but it is still a competitive situation. I pay attention to the flow of the score, I watch the lanes to see how the oil conditions change, I watch my teammates bowl and I have ideas about how they can adapt (league bowling is a matter of constant adaptation), but I keep those ideas to myself almost all the time unless asked, because it can be really annoying having someone telling what to do all the time. Sure, all the time, I’ll grant you that. But if you throw 5 frames in a row and leave the 6 and 10 pins every time, I’ll probably tell you at that point that you might want to move a couple boards right on your setup, or maybe half a foot further back. They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results; I’m an attentive member of my team watching everyone bowl, and discussing the lane conditions and how to adapt to them is part of the normal league interaction. Duh. Go to bowling league, talk about bowling. See how things are, and talk about how to overcome them. It’s part of being on a team. One comment gently offered once in five frames isn’t meddling or being bossy or having unrealistic expectations or putting undue pressure on others demanding that they perform.

We lost 5 out of 7 last week. What made it really bad is that we only played half a team; one of theirs was absent, so we used his absentee score (average minus ten pins). Another one had prebowled, and had done poorly, and progressively worse every game. And the two that were there were rolling on average or barely above. So we should have had a 60 pin advantage, and my wife and I were bowling really well. Pretty sure I was throwing 25-40 pins over average each game. And we lost anyway.

The couple we were paired up with to form this team aren’t very social. They spend most of the night texting on their phones. Every week the wife whines how she’s so tired, how she doesn’t want to be there, how she wishes it was over so she could go home - and this by the halfway point of the first game. Then they go through their own peculiar mating ritual it seems ... she’ll get all uppity over some perceived slight, and pretend to be mad at him. He’ll make some wise remark to get her steamed even further, but after she pouts around for ten or fifteen minutes he’ll get back in her good graces by buying her a candy bar or ice cream or other junk to eat. Then they’ll be all cuddly for a bit, and playfully smack each other on their ample bottoms in passing (I’m overweight at 52, but the two of them are just as large or larger than I am, and in their early mid 20s. When I was 24 I was a young god. Well, I like to think so.).  Whatever. People are strange, and every couple has it’s own unique ways.

But - bad Drew!! When we lost the 2nd game last week by a mile, one that ought to have been an easy win, and we lost it when I’d bowled 40 over and my wife had bowled 30 over, I made a face. A face!! And I was annoyed and downcast for about ... 7 seconds. Then I got over it and tried to get everyone amped up for the 3rd game. “ok, they got this one. Let’s rally and get game 3” kind of thing. That must have been insane crazy talk that frightened everyone. Or made them “uncomfortable”. Or I was putting far too much pressure on people. Beats me, but I’ve gone over it a bunch of times in my head, and analyzed how these two have been increasingly less social week after week - when the wife was out sick a few weeks ago, the husband just sat there like a lump. He never initiated a single sentence our way, and when we asked after her health or said other things to him his responses were barely more than grunts, just one or two words. So now we’re getting the silent treatment. With extra snotty. Like they’re 3 years old.

I want to fight. I want to confront them in public and call them pussy titty babies, and tell them to put on their triple XL big girl panties and come to us if they have a problem with us. I’ll chew them up and spit them out and grind them to bloody dust under my heels and laugh the whole damn time at their bathos. They want to throw around passive aggressive behavior in my direction, I’ll throw straight up aggressive behavior back. And I’ll take it as far as it goes. On the other hand, if they can discuss what their issue is, and listen to ours that we find their asocial texting, argumentative flirtation, and her constant bad attitude annoying, them maybe we can resolve our differences.

My wife says it’s not worth it. She thinks we’d be better off just breaking the team in two and trying to find another couple, or just going it alone for the rest of the season. She’s spotted the disdain coming our way, and figures there’s no way to overcome that.

An Airline With Six Fingers

Qantas Freaks Out Over Passenger’s Princess Bride Shirt

Ok, stupid is as stupid does; the guy was a dingbat for wearing it, but still. And he does look a bit psycho. But. Get a grip people. You’d think these guys worked for the Zero Tolerance school system.

‘My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die.’

The infamous line from ‘The Princess Bride’ has been repeated the world over by fans of the cult classic but some Aussies on a Qantas flight on Sunday didn’t appreciate the humor.

Wynand Mullins boarded his Sydney flight wearing a T-shirt with the movie quote and was asked to change his attire after his fellow passengers complained that they felt threatened.

bouncing off the bottom

I haven’t done much bowling blogging this season. Nobody cares, and my leagues are pretty weird. In Greed League we bowl superbly, but get outbowled nearly every week so we’re at the bottom of the pyramid. On Cheap League, my team really sucks, couldn’t care less about the game or about being competitive, yet somehow we manage to hover around first or second place. Go figure.

On Greed League we have a sub nearly every week because Bob is never there. He runs a pet food import business, so he’s always down in Texas bringing dead critters and spoiled seafood across in bulk from Mexico.  So we get a substitute. Sometimes the sub is a hero. This week he wasn’t. Our guy Jason has been getting better and better, and this week rolled his 3rd 300 game in his whole life. He’s been a bowler since he was 7. His kids are in junior high now. 3 perfect games. Me? I had a decent week too, rolling a 660 series. That’s about 120 over my average series; not award winning, but still pretty good. No spectacular game either, just solid bowling, each game well over 200 for a 220 series average. 42 over my paper average. Maybe I can do it again on Cheap League, maybe do it better, and finally get myself a 700. Never had one, not ever. Sure would be nice.

On the other hand, my bowling is suddenly quite better, 13-15 weeks into the season. This has let me win the brackets in Cheap League 2 weeks in a row now, so I’m actually up $6 now, for the season, based on the weekly $2 ante. If I can win 1 more week I’ll be in the black for the entire season.

Whatever.

Don’t want everyone to think the UK is alone in the asylum.  Oh no.  We have company okay.

This thing reads like the script for some fiction flick.  Or it could be a good if unbelievable book.  But no. Look here.

This is, it is reported by Front Page Magazine, for very real.

This seems to be the way the world has decided to move. Must be the water or else everyone is stoned outta their minds.

State TV in Norway: Paying to Be Propagandized

January 23, 2013 By Bruce Bawer

Well, it’s done. I just made the first of my two compulsory yearly payments to NRK – short for Norsk rikskringkasting. In English it calls itself the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, but believe me, there’s nothing remotely corporation-like about it. It’s a fully government-owned and government-operated outfit, and its fealty to the Labor Party worldview is reflected in the nickname by which some of its disgruntled viewers refer to it: ARK, or Arbeiderpartiets rikskringkasting – Labor Party Broadcasting.

As of 2013, the semiannual NRK license fee – which, I should perhaps underscore, is something you pay in addition to whatever you might happen to shell out for your cable and/or satellite service – went up to $240.33, for a total of $480.66 per year. (Out of the kindness of their hearts, they divide the amount in two, apparently realizing that for a lot of people this is no small expense.) It’s a tax, of course, but it’s not treated as a tax – which is reflected in the fact that the fee actually includes an eight percent value-added tax. In other words, not only do they charge you a tax on top of your regular income tax to pay for a product that you may never even use – they also tax the tax.

With NRK, as with the BBC, it’s the license fees that pay the bills and keep the enterprise going. And as I’ve complained before (and will complain again), what you’re doing when you cough up this sum is paying to be propagandized. Essentially, that’s what NRK is: a propaganda operation, designed to ensure that when the Norwegian people get their news about the world, it’ll be served up to them with just the right spin, in hopes that it’ll keep them from straying too far from the socialist line they were fed in school. To be sure, ever since 1992, when NRK was finally forced to surrender its TV and radio monopoly, there have been other broadcast news sources in Norway; but old habits are hard to break, and besides, Norwegians have been told all their lives that NRK is the only really serious and truly reliable news source, since, unlike commercial TV channels, which always must look over their shoulders at their advertisers, NRK is undefiled by poisonous capitalistic influences, and is thus able to present them with the pure and unadulterated truth. An amazing number of people actually buy this bull. Dagsrevyen, the national news program that is broadcast every evening at seven, regularly draws around a million viewers in this country of five million.

Still, every once in a while NRK tries to pull something so flagrant in its dishonesty that it actually erupts into something of a scandal. Case in point: the January 12 edition of Dagsrevyen featured an eight-minute story about Mirela Mustata, a Romanian gypsy, or Romani, woman who was in a Norwegian prison after having been convicted of “aggravated human trafficking” in a case involving four children. The clear objective of NRK’s report was to paint Mustata as a victim of cultural prejudice, punished simply for trying to keep her children from starving. To this end, NRK implied that Mustata had done nothing more than put her kids to work selling costume jewelry on the street – which, viewers were instructed, is a harmless, generations-old gypsy tradition. “I did everything I could to take care of my children,” a weeping Mustata said on camera.

What NRK tidily omitted from its report was the actual nature of the offense for which Mustata was convicted: namely, she had taken ten thousand euros in exchange for allowing her eleven-year-old daughter to be pinned down by several men and raped. Mustata exploited the same daughter again in the same fashion when the girl was twelve, and again when she was thirteen. The girl in question, and another daughter whose similar victimization Mustata also arranged for, are now living in foster homes at secret addresses, while two other siblings have been shipped back to Romania to be cared for by the child-protection authorities. None of this was mentioned in the Dagsrevyen report. NRK, in its determination to spin any and every event involving members of certain minorities in such a way as to make them look like virtuous victims, left out everything that mattered.

And there is more at the link.

A Borrowed Link

Saw this today at Vilmar’s. It’s worth stealing repeating because the linked essay is worth reading.

The majority of murders in the cities with the worst homicide rates are gang-related. And while it isn’t always possible to be certain whether a killing was gang-related, the majority of homicide victims in city after city have been found to have criminal records.

In 2010, there were 11,078 firearm homicides in the United States and over 2,000 known gang-related killings, over 90% of which are carried out with firearms. Since 1981, Los Angeles alone has had 16,000 gang related homicides. That’s more than twice the number of Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is what Obamerica looks like. It’s a place where life is cheap and illegal guns are as available as illegal drugs. It’s the war that we aren’t talking about

Read it if you want but notice how the author dances around the race issue. AS ALWAYS. Until that truth is faced head on in bright noonlight by everyone there will be no real solution.

CHRISTINA

I know I’ve posted photos of this Goddess before. Am posting again because every so often I find a new set of pix.

Now then, it not simply because of her beautiful flaming red hair that I’m dopey for this lady. And NO. I am not hooter horny either.  There’s just something about her that is ..... I can’t describe it.  And hey, she would still be a Goddess with dark hair, altho admittedly of a lesser rank.

And by golly I am still over the moon and devoted to a young ANN MARGARET who will always be a Goddess.

And the only blonde Goddess of the 1940’s, Angela Lansbury, and ginger haired Lucille Ball.

Now that I have that out of the way, and to avoid a gripe from Rich for ignoring his tastes, and to welcome back our NJYank, for art lovers and for scientific research only ....

SAD END TO NICE GUNS?

Seems to be a day for guns.

What a find here. I’m surprised the builder didn’t take them. Or maybe he did take some. Or, there could have been a witness to the find?

Don’t you love the line about “trained officers” to haul away those empty guns.

Private ownership of handguns is banned. Oh yeah? Then who are the guys who’ve been using them lately?  How did that off duty cop get shot dead last week?
And by who?
Oh right.  The bad guys.  They do not recognize gun bans.

Builder discovers deadly haul of more than 30 shotguns and pistols which were hidden behind false wall days after Dunblane massacre

Simon Berni made the discovery while renovating a house in south Wales

More than 30 shotguns and pistols as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition were hidden behind a false wall in the Dinas Powys property

Believed previous owner hid the weapons after the Dunblane massacre.  The 1996 atrocity caused private ownership of handguns to be banned

By Suzannah Hills

A secret arsenal of guns and ammunition hidden in the wake of the Dunblane massacre have been found stashed behind a false wall by a builder renovating a house.

Builder Simon Berni, 41, was shocked to discover a secret haul of more than 30 shotguns and pistols as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition when he began working on a south Wales property.

He said: ‘It was an incredible arsenal - full, absolutely choc-a-bloc with eight shelves of fire arms and ammunition.

The guns were wrapped in newspaper dated March 1996 - just days after the Dunblane massacre in which 16 children were shot dead.

Police believe the guns were unregistered and their owner hid them out of fear of losing them when strict new firearms laws were brought in following the Dunblane shootings.

Public outcry at the killings in March 1996 and an official enquiry entitled the Cullen Report forced new gun laws to be brought in.

Subsequently, the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997 and the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997 were enacted, effectively making private ownership of handguns illegal in the United Kingdom.

The Dunblane massacre remains one of the deadliest criminal acts involving firearms in the history of the United Kingdom.

Mr Berni was renovating his uncle’s house in the quiet village of Dinas Powys, near Cardiff, when he made the gun haul discovery.

He found one set hidden in the space behind a wall heater and another when he took down a plasterboard wall to uncover the secret arsenal.

The firearms ranged from a pistol from the 1930s to a pump-action shotgun. Around 250 live bullets were also found.

He added: ‘I was shocked because there weren’t any bricks in the wall but a lot of shotgun barrels and hand guns.

‘They obviously belonged to somebody who knew what they were doing as they were all greased and beautifully wrapped up in newspaper.’

Police are working on the theory that the owner of the guns died after concealing them in the house.

The weapons have been removed safely by trained police officers.

Norway Gets Really Cheesed

Trouble In Tysfjord

the wrong kind of toasted cheese

Norway goat cheese fire closes tunnel

A road tunnel in Norway has been closed - by a lorry-load of burning cheese.

About 27 tonnes of caramelised brown goat cheese - a delicacy known as Brunost - caught light as it was being driven through the Brattli Tunnel at Tysfjord, northern Norway, last week.

The fire raged for five days and smouldering toxic gases were slowing the recovery operation, officials said.

The tunnel - which is said to be badly damaged - is likely to remain closed for several weeks, they added.

“We can’t go in until it’s safe,” geologist Viggo Aronsen told Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Police officer Viggo Berg said the high concentration of fat and sugar in the cheese made it burn “almost like petrol if it gets hot enough”.

The lorry driver had noticed the fire in his trailer and abandoned it about 300m (1,000ft) from the southern entrance. No-one was hurt.

Kjell Bjoern Vinje, of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, said it was the first time he could remember cheese catching fire on Norwegian roads.

“I didn’t know that brown cheese burns so well,” he said.

UPDATE: This is worse than I first thought. Instead of Norway cutting the cheese, the cheese has cut Norway. In two!

Tysfjord is the only location in Norway where the European route E06 highway depends on a car ferry. There are ferry connections from Bognes to Skarberget (route E6) and from Bognes to Lødingen (connecting to route European route E10 and Lofoten). There is also a ferry connecting Drag south of the fjord with Kjøpsvik on the northern shore.

Kjøpsvik is connected to the E6 highway and Narvik by Norwegian National Road 827, with no ferry crossings. This might be an alternative to route E6, and is also the route of choice to get close to Stetind.

If Tysfjord experiences bad weather and the ferry connections are shut down, Norway is cut in two road-wise. A road connection is still maintained, albeit through Sweden, which makes it a very long drive.

So the little town of Drad is on one side of the fjord, Kjøpsvik on the other side, with Hulløya Island in between ... get off the ferry heading north, drive a very short distance up the E06 past Kjøpsvik, and you’re in the Brattli tunnel. And there is no other road around the mountain. So I guess the Norway Express driver is going to have to take the long way through Sweden, and it’s a darn long way: there isn’t much of any kind of road across the border either. This is the Big Empty Zone folks.

Oh, and being a rather coastal nation to begin with, and all fjordy and stuff, the land mass of Norway is actually less than 3 miles wide at the head of Tysfjord, by the commune of Hellemobotn, population 3 dozen. Then it’s the Swedish border. And there’s nothing there. Empty.

So this is some very naughty cheese.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
