Happy Labor Day Weekend

August Report: No Job Growth At All

ZERO

Can you say “impending double dip recession” boys and girls?

A dismal labor report Friday showed the economy added zero net workers in August, intensifying pressure on President Obama to unveil a major jobs initiative during his speech to Congress next week.

The Labor Department report, which showed the unemployment rate stuck at 9.1 percent, feeds into concerns that the economy could be at risk of another recession. It was the weakest jobs report since September 2010.

Republican leaders swiftly cited the report as renewed evidence that the Obama administration must change course.

“Private-sector job growth continues to be undermined by the triple threat of higher taxes, more failed ‘stimulus’ spending, and excessive federal regulations,” House Speaker John Boehner said.

At least the MSM didn’t insult us yet again by saying that this was “unexpected” news. It couldn’t have been; we’ve all seen it coming for months. Next month will probably be worse.

Let us not forget that the 9.1% is as softened a number as the government can get away with. Real unemployment is half again to double that figure.

Want to get America back to work? Cut regulations, cut business taxes, cut fuel taxes, throw out Obamacare and start figuring something else out instead, get government out of the private sector. Stop the deficit spending. Shrink government and government hand-outs across the boards. Turn America back into a producer nation, and make efforts to half the number of illegals and secure the borders. That’s the only path that works.

Noting that Obama will “finally unveil his latest jobs plan” next week, Cantor (Rhino-VA) said he believed there would be areas where Republicans and the White House could “work together to produce real results that will help job creators get people back to work.”

He said Obama’s suggestion earlier this week that states should get more control over infrastructure projects was one the GOP could agree with. Cantor also suggested the two sides could agree on changes to the unemployment system.

“The president says he wants to put job creation first and put politics aside,” Cantor said. “We agree. It is a two-way street, and if the president is willing to roll up his sleeves and join us in helping Americans back to work, we are ready to work together.”

Unemployment was at 7.8% when Obama took office. He campaigned that he was going to save the economy from the terrible Bush years when nearly everyone had a job. How’s The Won doing so far? Hmm, I think I heard that his latest poll numbers are down to 42%. I wonder where they would be if the MSM and their agitprop running dogs were on his back 24 hours a day since before he even took the oath, the same as they were for Bush? Congress doesn’t have a built in, nearly universal cheering squad with bulletproof faith like he does, and their current approval rating is an abhorrent 6%. Kind of hard to fully separate the two, since together they are the leadership end of the government.

Ratings for the current Congress remain at their worst, with the number of voters who think the lawmakers have passed any legislation to improve life in America now at a record low.

it’s official. life is only worth 14 years, if the killer is underage. outrage

Where to begin?  This is such an outrageous affront to a sense of justice.  Life is indeed cheap. How cheap? Try fourteen years for cold blooded, calculating murder.  It make the blood boil.
This miserable underage excuse for something human decided to win a bet, as you will read. And so he did but first he had to murder his innocent and trusting girlfriend, by beating her to death with a rock.  Which he happily described to a friend.

He went to court grinning and jovial but broke down only when found guilty. I guess the scum didn’t think he’d be convicted due to his boyish age.

The bastard got 14 years.  He’ll still be in the prime of his life, but by then his criminal skills will no doubt be honed.
It’s really too bad there are no vigilantes, who could take this bag of worthless dirt out in the very same way he killed his young victim.
That would be justice served.  As of now, there is zero justice for the victim or her family.  Just a lifetime of angst and tears at every missed birthday and every missed holiday.

The idea that is forced on the public by the usual hand wringers, that we must not give in to revenge or base instincts as we’re a civilized people, is bullshit.
No, the death penalty won’t halt crime.  But it might cause many to think 2wice if they were certain they’d pay for their act in the very same manner they took out their victims.

In reading the comments following the article, I haven’t noticed anyone saying, ‘Only in England,’ as many do when referring to crime or some moral outrage in the USA when folks here always say, ‘Only in America’ as tho it’s an original statement.

14 fuckin’ years for a crime like this is itself a crime!

Devastated mother calls for return of the death penalty after 16-year-old who battered her daughter to death with a rock is jailed for 14 years

Friend offered killer free breakfast if he carried out the attack

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 3:41 PM on 2nd September 2011

A mother whose daughter was battered to death by her ex-boyfriend has called for the return of capital punishment, saying the killer had ‘forfeited his human rights’.

16-year-old Josh Davies was today sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Rebecca Aylward, 15, and told he will serve at least 14 years in prison.

Davies had lured Rebecca, of Maesteg, near Bridgend in south Wales, into a wood and smashed her skull in with a rock the size of a rugby ball, after a friend promised him a free breakfast if he killed the girl.

He then left his former girlfriend face-down in the rain wearing new clothes she had bought for their meeting.

The brutal murder was carried out in an isolated area of woodland at Aberkenfig, near Bridgend, last October.

Davies was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court today and told he will not be eligible for release until he has served 14 years in prison.

A few weeks before the murder, a friend told Davies he would ‘buy him breakfast’ if he killed Rebecca.

Two days before he killed her, he texted the friend with the message: ‘Don’t say anything but you may just owe me a breakfast.’

Sonia Aylward, the victim’s mother, hit out after the sentencing hearing, and called for the death penalty for Davies.

‘The evil-doer Joshua Davies robbed us of watching our precious and perfect little girl flourish into a successful young woman.

‘We will never forgive him for tearing our world apart so brutally and I would welcome the return of capital punishment for the likes of Joshua Davies, who forfeited his human rights when he chose to take my daughter’s life.’

She said her daughter was ‘a promising student, a wonderful friend but, most importantly, a loved and loving daughter and sister.

‘There is no doubt in my mind that Rebecca was destined for great things.’

Thanking members of the public and the prosecution team for their support, she said: ‘Rebecca believed in the justice system and today justice has been served.’

Speaking outside the court, she added: ‘I would have like it to be longer but it’s only a starting point. He has to show remorse obviously but whether he will in the long-run I don’t know.

‘I wish he would tell us exactly what he did in the woods but I don’t think he will.

‘I want to know why he did it. I want to know everything that happened there.’

Earlier trial judge Justice Lloyd Jones called Davies ‘devious, calculating and controlling’ as he passed sentence. He told him that he had shown no remorse.

Peter Rouch QC, his barrister, began today by saying that Davies still did not acknowledge his guilt.

He told the court that he maintained the same version of events he had told the jury, that his best friend was the real killer.

‘My instructions remain the same, in that Joshua Davies stands by the version that he gave during the course of the trial.’

archaeology in china again

Ran across this only minutes ago.

Worth sharing for any who have an interest but haven’t seen this yet.

Remains of horses and chariots unearthed from tomb dating back to 3,000-year-old Chinese dynasty
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

It could have been as early as 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ that these horses were moved on to greener pastures - and no one has laid eyes on them until now.

Archaeologists have painstakingly uncovered the almost 3,000-year-old remains of horses and wooden chariots in a Zhou Dynasty tomb in Luoyang, Henan Province, China.

The completed excavation unearthed four horse-and-chariot pits, dating back as far as 770BC.

image

The pits have well-preserved evidence of bronzeware and ceramics from the Early Western Zhou dynasty.

Though a far smaller tomb than the famous ‘terracotta army’ found in 1974 in the Lintong District, this find has been undisturbed while buried and has not suffered the ravages of grave robbers.

Archaeologists believe that the tomb belongs to an official of some renown during the dynasty - pottery, metal weaponry and inscriptions are consistent with a man of mid-level importance.

Apart from the artifacts themselves, the tomb is an exciting discovery for historians, as it provides unquestionable insights into funeral customs in the early Western Zhou dynasty.

The unearthed tomb is a vertical earthen pit tomb, which is very common in that period.

Because of the age of the site, the traditionally wooden coffin and body within have long-since carbonised.

But the most valuable discovery by far is the complete set of chariots and horses, of all shapes and sizes.

Animal lovers can breathe a small sigh of relief - archaeologists say the position of the horses, lying on their sides, show that the animals were slaughtered before burial, and not entombed alive.

At the time of this official’’s death, large-scale irrigation projects were being instituted across China, and the nation’s writing system was being further developed.

image

It was also the time of the great Chinese philosophers of antiquity, including Confucius, Mencius, and Zhuangzi.

Many nearby tombs have fragments similar to the Luoyang find, but most have been emptied of their funeral relics by thieves.

Surviving Irene - Local Vermont Hero

Git ‘er done!

Killington VT excavation company rebuilds road,
opens town to outside world

or at least really helping lots of people all at once
without taking much personal risk

A little less trapped

KILLINGTON — Craig Mosher looked up the road and saw his next job. It wasn’t one he asked for.

The owner of Mosher Excavating, Inc. on Route 4 in Killington has been lauded by Killington townspeople for his rapid response to historic flooding that washed out a huge section of road just north of his home and business.

Since Monday, Mosher and four of his employees, who rode into work on ATVs, have used the company’s own excavating equipment to completely rebuild the road and redirect a brook into its normal path at the key intersection of Route 4 and River Road.

They’ve worked sunup to sundown.

Because of Mosher, more than 300 out-of-towners got out of Killington Wednesday morning and headed toward Woodstock and the interstate, and food and supplies can be delivered into town from the east.

Because of him, water isn’t flowing into the Kokopelli Inn, Goodro Lumber or into the rooms of houses anymore.

Because of him, the town feels less trapped.

“I’m not a hero, I just own an excavating company,” Mosher said, eating a salad for lunch as he leaned on his bulldozer Wednesday.

Mosher was given the go-ahead by the state to rebuild the road for access and redirect the brook as best as he could.

[Prior to the repair work] there was no way into town and no way out, the result of raging water that grew in otherwise calm brooks after the area received upwards of 6 inches of rain in a 24-hour period.

Smart move getting the Ok from the state ahead of time, but I kinda doubt that would have stopped them from doing what was necessary. Real Vermonters fix the problems then get back to work.

Mosher excavating owns about a dozen pieces of heavy equipment from diggers to graders to rollers and dumptrucks. They’ve been building roads and ponds, terracing hillsides, digging foundations and putting in septic tanks across Vermont and New Hampshire for years.

A dusty one-lane road out of Killington was open for three hours today. At least 400 cars packed with stranded tourists from Manhattan to Moscow slipped out, according to town Selectman Jim Haff.

“Craig is definitely a local hero,” said Roger Rivera, 33, an emergency worker with the state. “This is what Vermonters do. We don’t wait for help. We get it done ourselves.”

Residents had yet to be visited by FEMA workers, Haff said this morning. They are using public and private equipment to jury-rig as much infrastructure as possible, he said. Route 4 beyond Killington, while passable, is dangerous and few warning signs have been posted.

“FEMA is trying its hardest,” said Rivera. “But the whole state is a mess, and they can’t be everywhere.”

Refugee tourists were grateful for the escape route.

Killington? Yeah, the place that has had the big ski resorts. Had. Oh they’re still there, but it’s doubtful that they will have a season this winter. When Irene hit the area she dropped a foot of rain on the mountains in short order. In winter that all comes down as snow and is a blessing for the ski industry. In summer that’s rain, and what makes it to the bottom of the hill is mud. The Killington base lodge is in a sea of mud, and reports are that at two of the main buildings has foundation damage. Nearby Pico ski resort is also saying “closed for the season” before the season even gets close to beginning. Here’s a reverse color satellite image of the Killington resort. Red is trees, gray is mud:

Monkeying Around

A police officer came upon a terrible wreck where the driver and passenger had been killed. As he looked upon the wreckage a little monkey came out of the brush and hopped around the crashed car.

The officer looked down at the monkey and said “I wish you could talk.”

The monkey looked up at the officer and shook his head up and down.

“You can understand what I’m saying?” asked the officer. Again, the monkey shook his head up and down.

“Well, did you see this?”

“Yes,” motioned the monkey.

“What happened?”

The monkey pretended to have a can in his hand and turned it up by his mouth.

“They were drinking?” asked the officer.

“Yes,” nodded the Monkey.

“What else?” asked the officer.

The monkey pinched his fingers together and held them to his mouth, sucking inward quickly.

“They were smoking marijuana too?” said the officer.

“Yes,” nodded the Monkey.

“What else?” queried the officer.

The monkey motioned with his fingers…

“Having sex!. They were having sex, too!?” asked the astounded officer.

“Yes,” nodded the monkey.

“Now wait, you’re saying your owners were drinking, smoking and having sex before they wrecked?”

“Yes,” the Monkey nodded.

“What were you doing during all this?” asked the Officer.

“Driving,” motioned the monkey.
