Nightcap

imageimageBill Clinton was walking along the beach when he stumbled upon a Genie’s lamp. He picked it up and rubbed it and lo-and-behold, a Genie appeared. Bill was amazed and asked if he got three wishes.

The Genie said, “Nope...Due to inflation, constant downswing, low wages in third world countries, and fierce global competition, I can only grant you one wish. So...What’ll it be?”

Bill didn’t hesitate. He said, “I want to be remembered for bringing peace to the Middle East, instead of that other stuff with Monica, and Jennifer, and the rest of those women. See this map? I want these countries to stop fighting with each other.”

The Genie looked at the map of the Middle East and exclaimed, “Jeez, Fella! These people have been at war for thousands of years. I’m good, but not THAT good. I don’t think it can be done. Make another wish.”

Bill thought for a minute and said, “You know, people really don’t like my wife. Even though she got elected, they call her a carpetbagger. They think she’s mean, ugly, and pushes me around. I wish for her to be the most beautiful woman in the world and I want everybody to like her. That’s what I want.”

The Genie let out a long sigh and said, “Lemme see that map again.”

Most Ridiculous Item Of The Day

Some news stories require no comment. Others require a lot of thought and insight to prepare the reader. This news story requires none of the above. All this story requires is a nice seat in an electric chair and about 20,000,000 volts run through it until the smoking ashes are all that remains ....

imageimageLaci Peterson Life Insurance Hearing Set
MODESTO, Calif. (AP)

A judge on Tuesday set an Oct. 21 court date to decide who will collect Laci Peterson’s $250,000 life insurance policy. Sharon Rocha, the mother of the slain pregnant teacher, has petitioned the court for the money. But Scott Peterson’s attorney, Mark Geragos, won’t give up his client’s claim to the money until he has exhausted appeals of his conviction in her murder.

Rocha’s attorney, Adam Stewart, said Tuesday after a brief court hearing that it could take “a quarter of a century to find out whether he’s exonerated or put to death.” A telephone call to Geragos was not immediately returned. Peterson was convicted and sentenced to death last year for killing his pregnant wife and the fetus she carried. He maintains his innocence. A $25 million wrongful death lawsuit filed against Scott Peterson by Laci Peterson’s family is set for trial April 4.

Angels With Meth

Once more, we find out that we weren’t told the entire truth at the time. It seems the hostage had a lot of help from God and even more help from a stash of meth ....

imageimageHostage Gave Meth to Atlanta Fugitive
ATLANTA (AP)

Ashley Smith, the woman who says she persuaded suspected courthouse gunman Brian Nichols to release her by talking about her faith, discloses in a new book that she gave him methamphetamine during the hostage ordeal. Smith did not share that detail with authorities at the time. But investigators said she came clean about the drugs when they interviewed her months later. They said they have no plans to charge her with drug possession.

In her book, “Unlikely Angel,” released Tuesday, Smith says Nichols had her bound on her bed with masking tape and an extension cord. She says he asked for marijuana, but she did not have any, and she dug into her illegal stash of crystal meth instead. Smith, a 27-year-old widowed mother who gained widespread praise for her level-headedness, says the seven-hour hostage ordeal in March led to the realization that she was a drug addict, and she says she has not used drugs since the night before she was taken captive.

“If I did die, I wasn’t going to heaven and say, ‘Oh, excuse me, God. Let me wipe my nose, because I just did some drugs before I got here,’” Smith told the Augusta Chronicle. Police said Nichols took Smith hostage in her apartment March 11 after a shooting rampage at the Atlanta courthouse. During the ordeal, Smith says, she pulled out Rick Warren’s book “The Purpose-Driven Life” and read to Nichols a chapter called “Using What God Gave Me” to gain his trust. Nichols later released her, and she called 911 and told authorities where to find him.

Nichols is accused of killing four people, including a judge, and could get the death penalty. Since Nichols’ arrest, Smith has received $70,000 in rewards and has been bombarded with offers for books, movies and speaking engagements. Her ordeal has been held up as an example of the redemptive power of faith. “It’s hard for people to understand the miracle of the story,” she told the newspaper. “This was totally a God thing, to me in my life. This was God getting my attention, going, ‘I’m going to give you one more chance.’”

Financial details of the book have not been released, but Smith pledged to donate an undisclosed portion of the book’s proceeds to a memorial fund for the victims. Calls to Nichols’ attorneys were not immediately returned Tuesday. Prosecution spokesman Erik Friedly would not comment on the case.

SCOTUS To Decide Bimbo vs. Money

Judge John Roberts goes through the agonizing nomination process to get appointed to the Supreme Court and what is one of the first cases he gets to preside over? I’m glad you asked. He (and the other justices) get to decide if a blonde bimbo gets to keep her share of her dead sugar daddy’s money. That’s right. The Supreme Court of the United States has nothing better to do than decide if Anna Nichole Smith gets paid off for humping an 89-year-old man in his final years. I’m flabbergasted ....

imageimageAnna Nicole’s Case Goes to Supreme Court
WASHINGTON (AP)

The Supreme Court shed its staid image Tuesday, giving stripper-turned Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith a new chance at a piece of the fortune of her 90-year-old late husband. The court said it would hear arguments early next year as part of Smith’s effort to collect as much as $474 million from the estate of J. Howard Marshall II. The oil tycoon married her in 1994 when he was 89 and she was 26. The case promises to be the sexiest of the nine-month term which begins next week.

“She’s very excited. She will be attending arguments, there’s no question about that,’’ Smith’s lawyer, Howard K. Stern, said in a telephone interview from Vermont where the television reality star is filming a movie. At issue for the court is a relatively mundane technical issue: when may federal courts hear claims that are also involved state probate proceedings. But the facts are eye-catching. The 1993 Playmate of the Year and self-described ``blonde bombshell’’ claims her husband promised her millions but that his scheming son cut her out of the estate.

The son, E. Pierce Marshall, said that a Texas court had found Smith’s claim frivolous and that a jury determined he did nothing wrong. ``This is one small step in a process and we intend to prevail so that my father’s wishes can be honored,’’ he said in a statement. His father, one of Texas’ wealthiest men, died in 1995, setting off a nasty legal fight. An initial $474 million award for Smith was reduced to about $89 million, then thrown out altogether by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. The appeals court said that a Texas probate court’s decision that the oilman’s son was his sole heir should stand.

The appeals court decision, that federal courts in California never had jurisdiction, erased a lower court finding that she was entitled to compensatory and punitive damages on grounds that Marshall’s son tried to keep her from receiving money from his father’s estate. Smith, whose real name is Vickie Lynn Marshall, had received more than $6 million in gifts from her late husband, but was not included in his will, justices were told by E. Pierce Marshall’s attorneys.

Smith’s attorneys told justices in a filing that Marshall’s son “devotes nearly half his brief to manipulating the record to cast (Vickie) in a bad light,’’ and that J. Howard Marshall intended to provide for his wife throughout her life. The Supreme Court agreed to hear the case without awaiting the opinion of the new chief justice. The Senate is expected to vote on John Roberts’ nomination later this week. The eight justices, including retiring Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, picked that case to hear out of about 1,900 appeals.

The case is Vickie Lynn Marshall v. E. Pierce Marshall, 04-1544.

Forget the Ten Commandments and Roe v. Wade. This is more important, right?

Bill Clinton’s War

Forget the war in Iraq. What about the one Bill Clinton carried out on Yugoslavia? I don’t remember anyone protesting Slick Willy’s little excursion into that mess and nobody sure as hell is paying attention to what is going on over there, after US and NATO troops smacked down the Christians and gave Kosovo back to the Muslims. Would you like to know what happens when a country is over-run by members of the Religion Of Peace? This was Bill Clinton’s little war and this is his legacy ....

imageimageEx-Security Chief Blows Whistle on UN’s Kosovo Mission
(CNS NEWS)

Following five years of United Nations control and billions of dollars of international aid, Kosovo is a lawless region “owned” by the Albanian mafia, characterized by continuing ethnic cleansing and subject to increasing infiltration by al Qaeda-linked Muslim jihadists. The U.N.’s repeated failure to act on received intelligence has allowed illegal paramilitary groups to flourish and engage in terrorist attacks aimed at destabilizing regional governments in the Balkans, said Thomas Gambill, a former security chief with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), self-described as the world’s largest regional security agency.

Gambill was responsible for overseeing the eastern region of Gjilane in Kosovo from 1999 until 2004 under the authority of the U.N. His criticism comes as the United Nations prepares to launch final status talks on the troubled province ofKosovo , which has been a U.N. protectorate since North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces bombed Yugoslavia between March and May of 1999 to compel the Serb-dominated government of Slobodan Milosovic to withdraw its forces fromKosovo. The U.S. mission in Kosovo alone cost $5.2 billion between June 1999 and the end of 2001, according to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The NATO bombings were also launched in response to reports of large-scale ethnic cleansing of Kosovar Albanians by the Serbs. But as soon as the bombing campaign ended, ferocious, retaliatory ethnic cleansing allegedly took place with Albanians, who are predominantly Muslim, targeting Christian Serbs. The violence was witnessed and documented by the U.N. and OSCE. Following the NATO bombing of Kosovo, American troops under NATO command were stationed in neighboring Macedonia and Albania while then-President Bill Clinton decided on the size of the U.S. contingent to be deployed inKosovo. When U.S. troops entered the province in June 1999, the alleged retaliatory ethnic cleansing was already underway.

Incidents of sexual violence, torture, arson, murder, kidnapping, and verbal threats were allegedly widespread as part of an organized and successful campaign conducted “right under the U.N.’s nose,” said Gambill. Minorities targeted by ethnic Albanian extremists for expulsion or death included Serbs, Roma, Muslim Slavs, Turks and Croats. Reports filed by the OSCE indicate that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), which had been trained and supported by the Clinton administration, was predominantly responsible for the ethnic cleansing. In April 1999, congressional Republicans also promoted legislation seeking U.S. military aid for the KLA, causing Michael Radu of the Foreign Policy Institute to warn of the consequences of such a move.

Other armed extremist groups also participated in the ethnic cleansing, said Gambill. The overall goal of the groups was the creation of an ethnically pure state that included Albania, Kosovo and parts of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia “They will push for more. That is the plan. It’s called Greater Albania,” said Gambill. OSCE documents reveal that elderly Serbs who were unable to flee were threatened and women were thrown down staircases. Others were tortured, beaten and murdered. Some elderly Serbs fled to monasteries for protection, but the monasteries were later attacked as well, including as recently as March of 2004, according to the OSCE documents.

Vandals, Visigoths & Ostrogoths: Part II

This is how it always begins ....

THEN:
406 AD: Large-scale Barbarian invasion along Rhine - Rhadagaesius leads great Barbarian army dominated by Vandals, and including Alans, Suevis, and Burgundians, across the frozen Rhine at Mainz. The Barbarians attack cities and agricultural areas in Gaul, forcing the indigenous population into the hills.

408 AD: Visigoths return to Italy - Alaric, seeing Stilicho occupied, returns to Italy, wanting food and status within the Roman military hierarchy. Honorius flees to Ravenna.

410 AD: Rome Sacked - Given desperate material circumstances and no concessions from Imperial authorities, Alaric permits small sack of Rome.

493 AD: Theodoric the Ostrogoth unseats Odovacar - Zeno the Eastern Emperor sends Ostrogoths west to end their pressure on Constantinople. Theodoric’s ‘mission’ is to unseat Odovacar. He does so, and establishes the Ostrogothic kingdom of Italy. The Western Roman Empire ceases to exist.

NOW:
1990-2005 AD: Large-scale Barbarian invasion along Rio Grande ....

Report: Illegal Immigration Has Increased
WASHINGTON (AP)

The pace of illegal immigration to the United States has increased despite tighter security measures and it generally parallels the pace of economic growth and the availability of jobs, a report said Tuesday. The report by the Pew Hispanic Center also found that the stronger security steps since the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 have had the effect of reducing legal immigration. Overall, immigration to the United States declined along with the economy after 2000, but the report says the number of people trying to get into the country is on the upswing again.

Immigration _ both legal and illegal _ topped 1.5 million people in 1999 and 2000, according to the report. The number of people entering the United States then plummeted to 1.1 million people by 2003, the same level it was at in 1992. Immigration levels bounced back to 1.2 million in 2004, but the report cautioned that it is difficult to predict whether the recent upswing is part of a new trend.

“The extremely high (immigration) flows at the end of the past decade were not the norm, nor part of a long-term trend, but rather the peak of a momentary increase that lasted for only a few years,” said the report, authored by demographer Jeffrey Passal and Roberto Suro, a former journalist who heads the Pew Hispanic Center. “Thus, even as the United States consistently experiences historically high rates of migration, flows are subject to considerable variation.”

The report documents immigration levels from 1992 to 2004, generating estimates from a variety of Census data. The report acknowledges weaknesses in the data, especially when it comes to estimating annual changes in the number of illegal immigrants trying to enter the country. The Pew Hispanic Center is a nonpartisan research organization supported by the Pew Charitable Trusts.

Immigration levels closely mirror economic conditions in the United States _ as the economy improves, immigration increases _ suggesting that the lure of jobs is a strong factor in attracting people to this country, the report says. The U.S. economy appears to be a stronger factor than economic conditions in the countries sending immigrants here, the report says.

Among the reports findings:

Man Killed With Fork

A Green Bay, Wis., man is charged with killing his neighbor with a fork, according to police.

Investigators said Gordon Senecal was taking care of Todd Charles’ 15-year-old pit bull over the weekend when an argument broke out between the two men.

The men began fighting at Charles’ home and Senecal was stabbed with a large serving fork, police said.

Senecal was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Charles is expected in court Monday for his first appearance.

Crack Shot

Today’s most ridiculous news item is courtesy of Boston, Mass. where a party at the YMCA degenerated into a shootout. One “victim” had surgery to remove a bullet from his groin and police made an amazing discovery during the surgery ....

Five People Injured as Bullets Fly in Hub
(BOSTON HERALD)

Three teens who claimed to have ``just left’’ a YMCA party were among five people shot in several apparently unconnected rounds of late-night gunplay on city streets. None of the injuries was fatal. The bloodshed spanned less than three hours between late Saturday night and early yesterday morning. At 1 a.m. yesterday at DeGauthier Way and Shabbaz Way, just outside Dudley Square, police found a 16-year-old Dorchester male face down with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Two 18-year-olds he’d been walking with after allegedly attending a bash at the YMCA on Huntington Avenue were also shot by an unknown gunman – one, from Dorchester, in the wrist and the other, from Roxbury, in the head. Police had no reports of trouble at the YMCA. Y officials refused to comment.

A 27-year-old Roxbury man shot multiple times outside 10 Castlegate Road, Dorchester, shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday was also expected to survive. It wasn’t just bullets doctors were extracting: A 22-year-old man shot in the groin during an argument at M&M’s Jazz Club in Grove Hall at 2:12 a.m. yesterday had 17 bags of crack cocaine concealed in his buttocks, said police, who added insult to injury by slapping him with drug charges.

And a bullet, but no victim, was recovered from 17 Bickford St., Jamaica Plain, where police went yesterday at 12:30 a.m. on a report of shots fired. Three people were arrested, including one who tore a side mirror off a cop’s cruiser.

Only In America

This story will not help stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country one bit. Come to America, buy a lottery ticket, get rich! At least this fellow came in the right way. Congratulations, Moses. Spend it wisely ....

Man Takes Citizenship Oath, Wins Lottery
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP)

A man who immigrated from Kenya to the United States found prosperity beyond his expectations on the day he became a U.S. citizen. Shortly after Moses Bittok, of West Des Moines, took the oath of citizenship on Friday, he discovered he had a $1.89 million winning ticket from the Iowa Lottery’s Hot Lotto game.

“It’s almost like you adopted a country and then they netted you $1.8 million,” Bittok said Monday as he cashed in his ticket. “It doesn’t happen anywhere—I guess only in America.” Bittok said he took the citizenship oath at the federal building in Des Moines Friday then went shopping with his family. They stopped at a gas station to check his lottery ticket from the Sept. 21 drawing.

“For some reason, I’m calm,” he said. His wife, Leonida, screamed. Bittok, 40, an officer at the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women in Mitchellville, said he doesn’t know exactly what he will do with his winnings, but a college fund for the couples 4-year-old daughter, Mindy, is top priority. Bittok chose to receive his winnings in 25 annual payments of about $52,920 after taxes.

He came to the U.S. to attend college in Minnesota, then moved to Iowa to take the job at the women’s prison. He had purchased the winning ticket at a West Des Moines grocery store, where he once worked part time. Hot Lotto tickets are sold in Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, South Dakota and West Virginia.

Fifteen Minutes

I’m sorry but Cindy Sheehan has become a self-parody. A ridiculous joke that started out as an anti-war protest and has degenerated into self-aggrandizement, public relations, propaganda and sophomoric antics. Smiling for the cameras as she was taken away, the lady clearly is having way too much fun with all this publicity. Why is she doing this? What makes her think that turning tail and running out of Iraq will somehow glorify her son’s memory? What does she hope to accomplish with all this? Will any of it bring her son back to life? Will her protests actually remove President Bush from office? The answer to all of this is ... no, none and nothing. She can hope to achieve absolutely nothing from making an ass out of herself except to make clear to the American people what a useless media sock-puppet she has become for the radical Left in this country. She is being used .. plain and simple. Yet she is having the time of her life, as evidenced by the ear-to-ear grin below.

Whether they realize it or not, Sheehan and her “friends” in the crowd in DC are part of an overall manipulation of the American media by two groups of people: (1) the radical Left in this country who hate George Bush with a vitriolic passion, and (2) the radical Islamofascists who would kill us and who stand to profit handsomely in their ongoing Jihad against Western civilization by facing a divided enemy, namely us. The enemy within and the enemy without. Both are dependent on publicity from the media and both are bent on destroying thousands of years of civilization. Ms. Sheehan and her friends give aid and comfort to Osama bin Laden and his murderous thugs. I’m sure they appreciate the help and will spare Ms. Sheehan when they make their next attack on us. Then again, I could be wrong ....

imageimageSheehan Arrested During Anti-War Protest
WASHINGTON (AP)

Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who became a leader of the anti- war movement following her son’s death in Iraq, was arrested Monday along with dozens of others protesting outside the White House. Sheehan, carrying a photo of her son in his Army uniform, was among hundreds of protesters who marched around the White House and then down the two-block pedestrian walkway on Pennsylvania Avenue. When they reached the front of the White House, dozens sat down _ knowing they would be arrested _ and began singing and chanting “Stop the war now!”

Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along, then began making arrests. One man climbed over the White House fence and was quickly subdued by Secret Service agents. Sheehan, 48, was the first taken into custody. She smiled as she was carried to the curb, then stood up and walked to a police vehicle while protesters chanted, “The whole world is watching.” About 50 people were arrested in the first hour, with dozens of others waiting to be taken away. All cooperated with police.

Sgt. Scott Fear, spokesman for the U.S. Park Police, said they would be charged with demonstrating without a permit, which is a misdemeanor. Park Police Sgt. L.J. McNally said Sheehan and the others would be taken to a processing center where they would be fingerprinted and photographed, then given a ticket and released. The process would take several hours, he said. Sheehan’s 24-year-old son, Casey, was killed in an ambush in Sadr City, Iraq, last year. She attracted worldwide attention last month with her 26-day vigil outside President Bush’s Texas ranch.

The demonstration is part of a broader anti-war effort on Capitol Hill organized by United for Peace and Justice, an umbrella group. Representatives from anti-war groups were meeting Monday with members of Congress to urge them to work to end the war and bring home the troops. White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Bush is “very much aware” of the protesters and “recognizes that there are differences of opinion” on Iraq. “It’s the right of the American people to peacefully express their views. And that’s what you’re seeing here in Washington, D.C.,” McClellan said. “They’re well-intentioned, but the president strongly believes that withdrawing ... would make us less safe and make the world more dangerous.”

Agent 86 has left the building

ABC News

Don Adams of ‘Get Smart’ Dies at 82

LOS ANGELES Sep 26, 2005 — Don Adams, the wry-voiced comedian who starred as the fumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart in the 1960s television spoof of James Bond movies, “Get Smart,” has died. He was 82.

Adams died of a lung infection late Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, his friend and former agent Bruce Tufeld said Monday, adding the actor broke his hip a year ago and had been in ill health since.

As the inept Agent 86 of the super-secret federal agency Control, Adams captured TV viewers with his antics in combatting the evil agents of Kaos. When his explanations failed to convince the villains or his boss, he tried another tack: “Would you believe … ?” It became a national catchphrase.

Real Atmosphere Of Fear

Dan Rather recently gave a speech to broadcasters wherein he described a ”climate of fear” in newsrooms across the country. The Blathering Boob said reporters are being pressured by politicians and the news is suffering ....

Dan Rather Complains of ‘Climate of Fear’
(NEWSMAX)

Former CBS anchor Dan Rather said there is a “climate of fear” in newsrooms that is worse than he’s ever seen in his four-decade career. Rather declared that in the years since the then-White House correspondent tangled with President Nixon during the Watergate affair, politicians “of every persuasion” have gotten better at applying pressure on the corporations that own the broadcast networks.

Addressing the Fordham University School of Law on Monday, he called the current atmosphere a “new journalism order.” He said this pressure – along with “dumbed-down, tarted-up” news coverage, 24-hour cable news competition and the chase for ratings – “creates a bigger atmosphere of fear in newsrooms.”

Actor (and global political expert) Tim Robbins also says there is a climate of fear in the media and a ”chill wind is blowing” from the White House to suppress dissent. With his boundless political wisdom, Robbins explains that the US is becoming a fascist state ....

‘A Chill Wind is Blowing in This Nation...’
(COMMON DREAMS)

In the 19 months since 9-11, we have seen our democracy compromised by fear and hatred. Basic inalienable rights, due process, the sanctity of the home have been quickly compromised in a climate of fear. A unified American public has grown bitterly divided, and a world population that had profound sympathy and support for us has grown contemptuous and distrustful, viewing us as we once viewed the Soviet Union, as a rogue state.

This past weekend, Susan and I and the three kids went to Florida for a family reunion of sorts. Amidst the alcohol and the dancing, sugar-rushing children, there was, of course, talk of the war. And the most frightening thing about the weekend was the amount of times we were thanked for speaking out against the war because that individual speaking thought it unsafe to do so in their own community, in their own life. Keep talking, they said; I haven’t been able to open my mouth.

A relative tells me that a history teacher tells his 11-year-old son, my nephew, that Susan Sarandon is endangering the troops by her opposition to the war. Another teacher in a different school asks our niece if we are coming to the school play. They’re not welcome here, said the molder of young minds.

For the record, I want to make it clear to these two brain-damaged specimens what a fascist, government-controlled “climate of fear” really is. It is the majority of the Muslim nations in the Middle East where disagreeing with the powers that be will get you instantly killed. It is North Korea where disagreement with “Dear Leader” will get you years in a miserable concentration camp, worked to death and left to starve. It is Communist China where the government would never allow Blathering Dan even a second in their broadcast booths nor would Professor Robbins be allowed to dissent in the tone he takes above. Both would be summarily shot. That is a real “climate of fear” ....

China Sets New Rules On Internet News
BEIJING (Reuters)

China set new regulations on Internet news content on Sunday, widening a campaign of controls it has imposed on other Web sites, such as discussion groups. “The state bans the spreading of any news with content that is against national security and public interest,” the official Xinhua news agency said in announcing the new rules, which took effect immediately.

The news agency did not detail the rules, but said Internet news sites must “be directed toward serving the people and socialism and insist on correct guidance of public opinion for maintaining national and public interests.” Established news media needed permission to run a news Web site, it said. New operators had to register themselves with government information offices.

China has a dedicated band of cyber police who patrol the Internet with the aim of regulating content. Postings that criticize the government or address sensitive topics are quickly removed. Registration was a feature of rules imposed earlier this year aimed at not-for-profit Internet activities, such as personal Web sites and blogs.

Since March, university on-line discussion groups have been restricted to students, removing a once popular outlet for Chinese keen to publicize their views on sensitive issues. Student users and site managers must register using their real names. The biggest Chinese Web portals include those operated by Sina Corp. (http://www.sina.com.cn) and Sohu.com Inc. (sohu.com). Both carry news. Access to many foreign news Web sites is routinely blocked.

Now that is a “chill wind” and a “climate of fear”. What we have in the United States is an open society that allows any ignorant pissant to babble his/her head off anytime, anywhere. Like Blather and Robbins are doing. It’s too bad we don’t have a STFU Amendment in the Constitution to protect us from these idiots.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
