True Lies

Democrats make up numbers and stories as they go along. They blame Republicans for everything that goes wrong. How do they sleep at night?

“In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died—an entire town destroyed. Turns out that the National Guard in Kansas only had 40 percent of its equipment and they are having to slow down the recovery process in Kansas.”

-- Barak Obama, May 8, 2007

“We have personnel on the group but about half our trucks are gone. We don’t have front loaders or dump trucks. We don’t have flatbeds that move heavy equipment. Those are supplies that the state’s army and air national guard troops should have, but don’t. Instead, those supplies are in Iraq for the war effort, and that’s leaving national guard troops in Kansas and throughout the country seriously unprepared to handle natural disasters and other state emergencies.”

-- Kansas Democratic Governor Kathleen Sebelius, May 8, 2007

“Currently, the Kansas National Guard has 88 percent of its forces available, 60 percent of its Army Guard dual-use equipment on hand, and more than 85 percent of its Air Guard equipment on hand. Under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, which is a national partnership agreement that allows state-to-state assistance during governor or federally declared emergencies, Kansas has more than 400,000 Guardsmen available to it, he pointed out. However, Kansas has not yet requested assistance from other states.”

-- Randal Noller, public affairs officer for the National Guard Bureau, May 8, 2007

“Let me give you a sense of what’s available in the state, because I think—resources available: I already told you 83,000 National Guard units in the region, 99 bulldozers, 61 loaders, 246 dump trucks, 59 graders, 228 heavy expandable mobility tactical trucks, 2,243 2.5 and 5-ton trucks, 70 palletalized load systems. There’s a lot of stuff available. So, again, I think this is one where the equipment was available and everybody was moving as rapidly as possible.”

-- White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, May 8, 2007

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
