Russia and Ukraine have been at odds regarding natural gas coming through Ukrainian territory from Siberia. Russia was giving Ukraine a break on purchasing natural gas on the way to Europe, as the pipeline, operated by the state monopoly, Gazprom, went through Ukrainian territory. Well, the Russians wanted to jack up the price the Ukrainians were paying per 1,000 cubic meters: from $50 to $230!
