the eu courts and brit sovereignty

Many months ago, or was it late last year, I was getting ready to either update my old Dell desk top or replace it with new. Kept trying to weight pros and cons and dithered a lot, in the end did nothing as things here overwhelmed me. Wife’s health, which ain’t good hate to say, my own which is nothing to brag about, but overriding all of that are home improvements. Things moved room to room, clean ups after workers leave. Not that they were sloppy.  But you know, you always find debris of one sort or another nobody else can see.  Then more ppl coming in to measure for other things.

We’re trying to do a couple of rooms but can not do all at once.  Some things involve slipcovers for some old furniture, which doesn’t look like that should be some kind of ordeal. And it wasn’t. Exactly. It’s that every little thing takes so damn much time.

And oh yeah, carpets, too which we haven’t even picked out yet and lights that need changing. I don’t mean bulbs. Fixtures.  One project will be done and finished on June 17.  We want to get one room completed before Xmas.  You’d think we had plenty of time.  It’s just a hassle getting the right folks together and also the money. We can only get so much into our account here before we run into legal problems and so things will move slower but we think (hope) better.

I think we will be replacing our front door also but that’s for next year’s project. I think. Hmmmm. Not certain.  Well back to computer thing, I think I’d prefer a laptop at the end of the day.  I don’t need this space using desktop and all it’s wires.
I’m not a gamer and no time for that anyway with all the other things I have to attend to on a daily basis.
Do they make business laptops as well as desktops?

OK so anyway I sit here and read all about it and hear all about how …. this country harbours people who are chipping away from the inside and one day there just won’t be an England anymore.

There has been an election here, and some things I understand cos LyndonB kindly and quickly answered my questions.

The conservative ( I spell it with a small ‘c’) party won, so we can kiss that lousy
coalition between them and the Lib/Dems (liberal democrats) bye, bye, and hope and pray for those who really think that will do any good, that with the cons in charge maybe just maybe things will get better.  Most especially the war with Europe. OK, I mean the EU.

The Prime Minster and others have insisted that Britain must ditch the Human Rights act in favor of a British Bill of Rights.  The human rights I refer to are set in stone laws issued by the court in Strasbourg, France.  This will get confusing .

Strasbourg
is the capital city of the Alsace region in northeastern France. It’s the seat of the European Parliament.  But wait …. there’s this other place and it’s called,

Brussels
Brussels is Belgium’s capital and home to the headquarters of the European Union.

And every year all the high and mighty go at huge expense along with all the followers and all aids and personal assistants, they all travel from Brussels to Strasbourg and then back again.  I don’t know why they do it that way, I have heard complaints but never thought to ask Lyndon why they do it that way.

So then … The human rights issue overrides (as I understand it) the rules and current laws here in the UK.  I am not certain to what extent but it is a big issue and it is a very serious one indeed.

Prior to this past election and all during the campaign, Cameron said he was going to introduce a bill to do away with the human rights act as written by the left wing lovvies and replace it with British Bill of Rights.

For too many years now, foreign criminals and home grown ones as well, and illegal immigrants included, have used the EU’s rights law as a shield and have been very successful.

Well folks, NOT this year and maybe not next and most likely not in my lifetime either.  Today’s papers report that while the PM has gotten one of his promises thru, we’ll just have to wait on a Brit bill of rights to replace EU court version of what “rights” mean.

The human rights charter as seen through the eyes and manoeuvres of Strasbourg, are still in place and live on. Not the best thing for England of course but hey … why would anyone care about that?

This is just a short bit I took from one paper to give you some idea.

From the Daily Mail:

Cameron buys off the Tory rebels on Human Rights but says public should be ‘in no doubt’ of commitment to ripping up the Act

From iNews

The difficulty is not so much drawing up a new Bill of Rights but working out how this interacts with Britain’s obligations under the Convention of Human Rights and through it the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
The previous Tory policy had suggested that the new law would “break the formal link” between the UK and the ECHR. But that is almost certainly impossible without withdrawing from the Convention completely – something a large number of Tories don’t want and would badly damage Britain’s standing in the world.
And btw …. the libs want to give 16 and 17 year olds the right to vote on any possible future referendum on Britain staying in or getting out of the European Union.
The long promised referendum is now promised for 2017, although there are voices crying out for it to be held sooner.  Libtards want to remain in the EU and they have lots of cons on their side with this issue.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
