One or Two for McGoo
While Steamboat McGoo takes a much needed rest, either to get his disgust level back under control, or his blood sugar level ... all 7 of his blog readers are doing what we can to fill in the voids.
I’ve been out to Science Daily, looking for some kind of story I can run with. And blame on Obama or Nancy Pelosi, somehow. Maybe this one. You saw the BS on TV last night, how His Oneness was claiming how the new healthcare plan wasn’t going to cost a cent? Yeah. Right. But maybe Science Is On Board. After all, where do they think their grant money is coming from?
Children Can Greatly Reduce Abdominal Pain By Using Their Imagination
Crivens, do I have to wait until I paste text highlights before fisking this?
“Come on Jimmy, it’s not really appendicitis. Use your imagination! Think of it as a giant cookie that you ate too fast! Think how great that cookie tasted! Focus on the flavor, and the pain will go away!
Children with functional abdominal pain ...
“Does it hurt?”
Oh God, yes!!
“Yup, that pain is functioning alright.”
… who used audio recordings of guided imagery at home in addition to standard medical treatment were almost three times as likely to improve their pain problem, compared to children who received standard treatment alone.
nd those benefits were maintained six months after treatment ended, a new study by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University Medical Center researchers has found.
The study is published in the November 2009 issue of the journal Pediatrics. The lead author is Miranda van Tilburg, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the UNC School of Medicine and a member of the UNC Center for Functional GI & Motility Disorders.
“What is especially exciting about our study is that children can clearly reduce their abdominal pain a lot on their own with guidance from audio recordings, and they get much better results that way than from medical care alone,” said van Tilburg. “Such self-administered treatment is, of course, very inexpensive and can be used in addition to other treatments, which potentially opens the door for easily enhancing treatment outcomes for a lot of children suffering from frequent stomach aches.”
The study focused on functional abdominal pain, defined as persistent pain with no identifiable underlying disease that interferes with activities. It is very common, affecting up to 20 percent of children.
But look at that - the kids can imagine the pain away, three times better than just taking drugs. I think we’ve cut right to the heart of Obama’s premise. Cut medical expenses by pretending you’re not actually sick imagining away your pain and symptoms! Heck, if little kids can do it, what’s your excuse?
This could save us BILLIONS!!!
Ain’t science grand?
No, this doesn’t quite feel right. It’s not McGoo enough. McGooey ‘nuff? Eww! So here’s a selection of Cosplay Babes below the fold. Don’t worry if you don’t have the slightest idea what this all about. It’s actually an exotic Eastern mating ritual that is slowly creeping into the West. You see, if all the boys are such dweebs that they live for playing video games, and their idea of “normal” girls is the animated females they “interact” with on those video games ... then the actual girls have to take things up a big notch to get their attention. Either that, or it’s just another extreme way of playing dress up. Maybe both. Perhaps Obama can fund some Science to study the effect.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
- Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
- Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
