News You Can Lose
I haven’t paid hardly any attention at all to the news the past several weeks. I doubt if I missed much of anything.
Politics? What for? I made up my mind who I was going to vote for in the 2012 presidential election back in the Spring of 2008: anybody but Obama. It was obvious then that McCain was throwing the election just like Bob Dole and Daddy Bush did before him, so that the other party could have it’s turn. So whatever Romney is up to ... it doesn’t matter one jot. If the guy can get elected, and I hope he does, and IF he can get Obamacare thrown out, then he will have been a successful President and the economy will surge. If not, then he’s another lying cork-snocker, the nation is doomed, and there is no significant difference between the elected officials on either side of the aisle. Crooks and statists, all of them. But if he can ... then we can have America again. Mostly. Sort of.
So, what’s in the news?
- Rep Peter King (R-NY) - “FBI not consistent when it comes to labeling what is or isn’t domestic terrorism.” Oh shut the fuck up King. They are so. If it’s a white guy doing the shooting, it’s terrorism. If it’s a muslime, it isn’t. Black, brown, white, or yellow, as long as they’re face & down ass up 5 times a day for a-lah, they’re off the hook. Even if that shooter is a card carrying member of AQ. Why? Because the FBI surrendered to Allah ages ago, and they are in fact dhimmis and apologists. No connection to any terrorist group, the shooter acted alone, musta been crazy, sexually frustrated, or just constipated. Nothing to see here, move along.
- Weird fish suddenly popular on Facebook. Weird stuff is always popular on Facebook. Who cares? But these giant flat fish are pretty funny looking, and seeing them off the coast is kind of rare, so I guess it’s news. Must be caused by global warming or something.

- EPA Pressured To Drop Ethanol Corn Mandate; Drought Makes Corn Prices Soar
Golly, that pretty much says it all right there, doesn’t it? Look, we’re not ready for ethanol yet. And it isn’t cost effective yet. And if we ever do get in this groove, it has to be made from WASTE PLANT MATERIAL in an area not otherwise growing food. At a price just slightly better than compost. And that’s all. Anything more costly than that is just stupid, and even Al Gore agrees with that. So cut the crap, and cut the damn program. It was wrong, it didn’t work. And if Obama and the DC Bandits can’t kill this one, they can’t kill anything: fire them all, right the hell now. With record drought destroying crops across the country, corn prices are skyrocketing, and that is causing a world-wide ripple effect, including on the cost of the corn-derived gasoline additive ethanol.
Corn prices are up 60 percent this summer, Christopher Hurt, a Purdue University economic professor, estimates. And now Democratic governors from Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina and Arkansas have joined ranchers, poultry farmers and the United Nations director-general for food and agriculture in asking the Environmental Protection Agency to waive the federal requirement that gasoline contain 10 percent ethanol.
“It’s universally acknowledged that ethanol is raising the price of food,” Kenneth Green of the American Enterprise Institute said. “It’s not lowering the price of gas. In fact, it may be raising the price of gas, and it’s having a devastating environmental effect in terms of coastal pollution.”
What, rein in the EPA? You’ve got to be kidding me. Ain’t never ever gonna happen. Not with this asshat nor the next one.
- Nonprofit raises eyebrows with mailings seeking to increase voter registration
Oh STFU. The registration forms are improper, unofficial, and being sent out to dead people, dogs, cats, and Wardmama’s collection of drowned groundhogs? Too effing bad. If your state had responsible voter registration - IE, get your damn ass down to county, show ID, and fill out the form in front of some government employee - this wouldn’t happen. Your state screwed the system, so now they have to deal with the problems. Let us know when they grow up and put the adults back in charge.
“This all looks like a total fraud to me,” says another viewer, who contacted Fox News to investigate why the group was pitching a voter registration form that, he said, appeared to be an official government mailing to, in his case, someone who cannot even legally vote.
The Voter Participation Center blames faulty mailing lists, not fraud, and says that it is trying to correct any problems.
“The Voter Participation Center, of course, regrets any instance at all where there is some sort of mis-mailing to some address or some person who shouldn’t receive the mailing,” said Center lawyer Scott Thomas.
Like hell. Bite me.
- Crude oil down to $114 per barrel??? US playing the “should we release the strategic reserve” game again, trying to cut the price a whole $1/bbl in the short term.
Horry Clap. Such a good deal. Hey, I know, how about “drop the price to $29 right now or we nuke you” combined with “The USA is embarked on the largest oil drilling program in history in an effort to become 100% energy independent in 2 years or less”. Together those might work. Anything else is bullshit and just kicks the can down the road while draining our national wealth into our enemy’s hands.
- GOLD stagnant at $1612/ounce, demand lowest in 2 years
Why should I even link this story? I personally have NO demand for gold, nor any spare money to play in the fixed precious metals game, and it’s a sucker bet at this point anyway. Gold is at it’s highest rate ever ever ever in all human history, and the only way it will go any higher is if the whole effin’ planet goes belly up bankrupt. In which case the gold becomes worthless, and a can of Spam™ becomes the new worldwide currency, with change made in handfuls of rice.
- “Sharpie Parties” latest social media destructive event to get even with evil banks for forcing you to buy more house than you could afford
Moving on to the next load of crap ...
LOS ANGELES – In the age of Facebook and Twitter, a new crime has hit America: “Sharpie parties,” gatherings of party revelers armed with “Sharpie” magic markers and lured by social media invitations to wreak havoc on foreclosed homes.
Five years into the U.S. foreclosure crisis, Sharpie parties are a new form of blight on the landscape of boarded-up homes, brown lawns and abandoned streets. They are also the latest iteration of collective home-trashing spurred by social media.
I say give the cops facebook accounts and invite them to “leadie” parties, where the guests are given free boxes of bullets and allowed to shoot the fuck out of the home wreckers with their Sharpies. For each wrecker killed by at least 8 bullets, the bank that currently holds the mortgage on the cop responsible agrees to knock of 1/100th of a percent from the interest rate. And make it a crime in California for any minor to be in possession of, or to make an attempt to purchase, a Magic Marker™ , Sharpie™, or other cellulose tipped marking pen. Just like they did with spray paint.
Nope, doesn’t seem like I’ve missed much of anything after all.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
