Manufactured Hysteria

It never ceases to amaze me how the media will take a relatively non-consequential event and blow it WAY out of proportion.  For example, the flu vaccine fiasco.

To listen to them you’d think half our elderly will drop over dead this winter.  The old folks have worked themselves into the frenzy because for decades now all they’ve heard is that if you are over 60 you need the vaccine or dire things will happen to you.

I’m even hearing Kerry ads saying this is all Bush’s fault.  How that fuckface can look himself in the mirror in the morning is beyond me.  He tells such whoppers that it only deepens my belief the Democratic Party no longer has any credibility and all they are interested in is lying, lying, lying, cheating or doing whatever it takes to get power.  Kerry KNOWS it was lawyer scumbags like his running mate, The Breck Girl, that created this mess.  Think he’ll admit it?  Think the press will badger him into admitting he made a mistake about this?  No!  Of course not.

All people have to do is act like they have half a brain in their heads and almost all of these fears would evaporate.  They can start by keeping their hands clean; by washing their faces and hands frequently; by not putting their hands up to their mouths; by staying at home if they are ill and NOT go to work or send their kids to school; by avoiding closed in areas with poor circulation and by airing out their homes daily.

But NOOOOOOooooooo!!!!  They want instant gratification and the ability to do what they want when they want because they want since modern medicine will cure all their ills.  It’s just like the asshole who complains about the high cost of health care but turns right around, knowing full well he suffers from heartburn, eats pizza, beer, chips, etc. and then pops a pill to offset the effects.  If the stupid son of a bitch would just control his diet he would not need the pills, his health insurance wouldn’t have to pay for it, the drug companies wouldn’t need to make it!  Costs then go down.  Same thing with diabetes, hypertension, heart disease.  If people would eat MODERATELY and not gorge on junk foods, get some exercise and decrease their drinking the need for drugs to cure the aforementioned diseases would decrease dramatically.

Anyway, enough of me venting.  Read this.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
