Fox News’ O’Reilly Admits: Conservative Media Is Us, And Op Ed Pages Of Wall Street Journal

I was watching the bloviating buffalo, Bill O’Reilly, yakking it up with my favorite TV guy, Charles Krauthammer, on how their channel Fox News, and the 2 or 3 pages of the Editorial section of the Wall Street Journal, were pretty much it when it comes to center of the road/Conservative journalism.

I guess all those thousands of right wing web sites count for nothing. The blogs, the forums, the social media pages. The entire “VRWC”; the so-called tongue in cheek Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

I suppose we’re all just preaching to the choir, talking to each other in a great digital circle jerk. No outsiders welcome or allowed. And maybe that’s the truth. And a shame. From Michelle Malkin to American Thinker to Instapundit to Bill Whittle to Atlas Shrugs, and Jihad Watch, and all the countless medium and small opinion outlets in between. Shooting the breeze to each other while the rest of the world ignores us.




Speaking of shooting the breeze ... now that the VRWC is pretty much done with the latest anti-gun story, that of the ATF banning the green tip, steel core, M855 5.56 NATO military surplus cartridge because it MIGHT penetrate body armor when fired from an “AR style” pistol ... this one has been kicking around for several weeks now, right? ... anyway, NOW that the internet - the invisible unfathomable unknown impotent and inconsequential internet - NOW that the right wingnut gun happy internet has chewed this story to death (rmeinder: get those ATF letters in by March 16!!), now it’s breaking news at Fox News. And Townhall.com is running an EXCLUSIVE.

UPDATE: ATF calls stripping ban exemption for AR-15 “green tip” ammunition a “publishing mistake.”

On Friday February 13 at 4:00 pm, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms released a proposal to ban commonly used M855 “green tip” AR-15 ammunition under the guise of law enforcement safety. The same day the proposal was released, on a Friday of a three day holiday weekend, ATF opened up a shortened 30-day period for the public to submit comments about the new regulation.

But it turns out, ATF has been working on a ban of AR-15 “green-tip” ammunition for quite some time and has already issued the ban in its new, 2014 Regulation Guide. For reference, ATF Regulation Guides come out approximately every ten years.

This is the ATF fucking with you. Like the IRS and the EPA, they are another overpowered out of control branch of the government, operating without oversight and with impunity, with a high likelihood of being used as a revenge tool by the current regime. Pretty much any rifle bullet is going to penetrate all but the heaviest human wearable body armor, “steel penetrator core” (ie a bit of needle 3/16” long).  They do this kind of crap for no other reason than to give apoplexy to all the gun people, ha ha ha ha. But back to my post; now that us “little fish” have worried this story to closure, the “big fish” are claiming original ownership, and even the TV news guys are discovering the story. So it seems to me, still smarting after last night’s diss. Hey O’Reilly - who the heck do you think watches your show in the first place? It sure ain’t HuffPo readers!

It looked like the fix was in. But the ATF says it was just a misfire.

As the ATF faces a firestorm of controversy for seeking public comment on a proposal to ban a popular type of bullet, critics last week claimed the agency may have decided in advance how it would rule.

They pointed to the ATF’s latest “Firearms Regulation Reference Guide,” released in January 2015. The guide, curiously, did not contain an exemption for popular “.223 M855 ‘green tip’ ammunition” that was included in earlier guides. Without that exemption, the ammunition is illegal to sell. (The change in language was first noticed by Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich at Townhall.com.)

So did the ATF already make up its mind? 

No, the agency claims. The ATF has responded that the reference guide is not legally binding, so the bullets have not actually been banned yet, and has apologized for leaving the exemptions out of the guide. They say it was an innocent mistake. And the proposed ban is apparently still under consideration.

Right. Whatever. It’s just kind of a kick in the nadgers for so many of us citizen journalists and pundits in the Samizdat Networks to be so quickly and easily dismissed by Big Media, even when that Big is really Little “faux snooze”, and we know damn well that they farm Drudge, Insty, and several others for headline fodder all the time.

Oh, and one thing I really do hate about Fox News is that they force a “fair and balanced debate” even when one shouldn’t exist. Some things are right, some things are wrong, and if you can’t see the difference then your eyes should be donated to the Cornea Fund for others who really do want clear vision.
And this is one of those situations. If it shoots out of a gun and doesn’t explode, then it’s fair game and hands off. End of story.

Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot.
