ho-hum for you …. buried in paper for me

If I told you guys what some of the bother I’d been up to lately, you would not feel too sorry for me cos some of it has been caused by ...
meself.

Inattention to little details like .... taxes and file of same and late and oh boy I fear this is gonna cost.  No fines because we aren’t talking about anything like evasion or criminal activity.  It’s a tedious story so I won’t bore with details, and there really are factors involved but, I have to consult via pc and loooong phone calls to USA accountant. 
I said I wouldn’t bore and I won’t but there is one little detail you might find stupidly amusing.

See .... we were under the impression (because I do not check often enuff) that we had not made any money. After all, we’re old and collect SS.
But ....  (clears throat) ummmmm.

Seems the folks at our bank who handle our meager investments have.  And they aren’t too meager to escape the notice of our home state.
Oh ,,, and I forgot.  I bought and sold MSFT a few yrs ago.  Did you know they pay dividends?  Yeah well, we got that too. I forgot.
Anyway ... strategy worked. You buy before dividends declared and hold for some short period and then sell. Of course the stock went up too so bingo.
Now I am not talking millions or even hundreds of thousands so don’t get that idea.

Ummmm ... I also sold out of our position in the Q’s, which is the Tech Index, QQQ.  Made a little there.

The bad news?

Both Qs and MSFT hit the hundred mark.  I’m too embarrassed to tell you where I got worried and sold.

So anyway .... color me embarrassed and cowardly.  Cowardly because I knew from years of past experience, that both the Q’s and MSFT are sure fire speculations.  Well, maybe not at today’s prices for us.  But they are solid and I know that personally, and so in addition to being a bit of a financial coward cause we don’t have a money tree anymore, pretty damn stupid along with all the rest.

But hey .....  There’s good news too as Drew is witness to.

Finally after weeks of searching .....

We bought a brand new washer/dryer combo, top of the range too.
Because they don’t have tilt drums in washers here anymore, and since there isn’t any room for side by side top loaders, which are not easy to find anyway, I had a 14 inch platform specially built that with our bad backs, we would not have to bend down to floor level to load and unload.

Now .... about those tax filings .....

We have to show the last 6 years activity of our use of ..... our local bank here in the UK.  ???? 
And that’s for the USA tax folks.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot.
