Hasta La Vista, Baby!

Well, that didn’t take long. One down, two dozen to go. Kerry damaged his political career in 2004 with constant flip-flops and by repeatedly exposing how vapidly transparent he truly is. I would go so far as to state for the record that he is completely unqualified to even be in the Senate. Boston dog catcher would probably be a stretch.

His recent foot-shooting incident with his “botched joke” about stoopid troops just days before the 2006 election probably put the kiss of death on him from other Democratic Party power brokers. You can probably safely color Kerry with the “has-been” crayon. Stick a fork in him. He’s done.

We’ll keep the “Kerry” category open here just in case this jerk’s political career has a few death rattles in it. Perhaps euthanasia is called for ...

Kerry Bows Out of 2008 Race

Senator John Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat who narrowly lost the presidency to George Bush in 2004, stepped away today from what he had described as an almost all-but-certain second bid for the White House, bowing to a Democratic Party that was clearly unreceptive to his return to the stage and that had turned its attention to new candidates.

Mr. Kerry, who is 63, will instead seek a fifth term as senator from Massachusetts, and will focus on organizing opposition to the war in Iraq, said a Democrat familiar with Mr. Kerry’s thinking who asked not to be identified until Mr. Kerry made the decision public himself.

Mr. Kerry had turned his attention to the 2008 presidential race almost from the moment he conceded defeat to Mr. Bush in November 2004, the end of what he described as a heartbreaking day in which exit polls had projected his victory was assured.

After being daunted in the 2004 race as being equivocal on the war in Iraq, he had emerged as one of his party’s leading opponents to the war, and had renounced his original support for the war resolution that caused him so many problems in the last election.

But Mr. Kerry faced severe obstacles in trying to capture his party’s nomination for a second time. For one thing, many of his supporters had made clear that they would not join him again should he try to run, with many blaming him for making mistakes in 2004 that cleared the way for Mr. Bush to win even as he was saddled with an unpopular war and a public that had turned largely against him.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
