greetings
Hello old blog. It’s me again, stopping by to say hello. I miss you. I wish that I had more energy to push myself harder so that I could wangle some extra time to play here. But so far, I can’t.
I spent the morning at the doctor’s office having a routine physical, so I’ve been poked and prodded, and had the full assortment of needles stuck in me to put things in and take things out. Bloodwork. Flu shot. Pneumonia shot? A few expensive prescriptions. The ever wonderful greased up latex glove. Oh boy. Now I have to run across town for a chest X-ray, and by golly, we really want you to have a colonoscopy. It’s that time.
Grrr.
So, what’s happening?
- Boehner resigned. Finally. Friday. You knew this already. A little too little, a little too late is my bet. It’s a shame that all the news stories I read on it only talk about how this will impact the GOP candidates. Hey, how about how it will impact the functioning of the damn Legislature?
- NASA says there’s salt water on Mars. Kowabunga dudes, will they find little fossilized surf boards next?
NASA has confirmed the existence of flowing liquid salty water on Mars, fueling the possibility of life on the Red Planet.
“Today, we’re revolutionizing our understanding of the planet,” said Jim Green, director of planetary science at NASA Headquarters in Washington, during a press conference Monday. “Mars is not the dry, arid planet that we thought of in the past - under certain circumstances, liquid water has been found on Mars.”

Man ripped teeth from autistic toddler’s mouth with pliers
A Pennsylvania man was charged with assault this month after his girlfriend’s 4-year-old autistic son was found with three of his teeth ripped out.Following a three-month investigation, Nicholas Kernechel, 27, was arrested on Sept. 17 on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child, FOX29 reported.
“The teeth were recovered, they were intact from the root to the edge of the tooth,” Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman told CBS Philly. “They were bloodied. And they have striations on them that would indicate that a tool of some sort was used to remove them from the child’s mouth.”
- Afghan City Falls To Taliban, UN Troops and Defenders Flee
KABUL — Taliban insurgents seized control of key facilities across a major city in northern Afghanistan on Monday, driving back stunned security forces in a multi-pronged attack that also sent Afghan officials and U.N. personnel fleeing for safety.
The fall of Kunduz would be a huge blow to the Western-backed government in Kabul and give Taliban insurgents a critical base of operations beyond their traditional strongholds in Afghanistan’s south.
For the moment, Afghan officials acknowledged, much of the city was in Taliban hands, and Afghan authorities were left struggling over how to turn the tide.
Kunduz has “collapsed” into Taliban control, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi told the Associated Press.
Afghan security officials said government forces have withdrawn in attempts to avoid civilian casualties and that they are planning a counteroffensive to regain Kunduz — a city that has already been the target of Taliban attacks twice this year.
I guess teh Mooch isn’t the only one pissed off when Barry pulls out early. Worst military leader ever.

Pentagon: U.S.-Backed Syrian Rebels Surrender American Arms to Al Qaeda
U.S. defense officials have confirmed that military equipment issued by the United States to Syrian rebel fighters has been funneled to an al Qaeda offshoot, raising new questions about the ways in which the Obama administration is safeguarding U.S. arms in the war-torn Middle Eastern country.A commander in the New Syrian Forces (NSF), a group being trained and equipped by the United States, was found to have distributed at least 25 percent of the force’s U.S.-provided hardware to the Nusra Front, a terrorist organization affiliated with al Qaeda.
The equipment, which included U.S.-issued ammunition and pick-up trucks, was “surrendered” to a Nusra Front affiliate in order to ensure that the rebel fighters could pass freely through territories controlled by the terrorist group, the Pentagon said.
A Syrian opposition commander who was leading a group of NSF recruits “self-reported to coalition forces that under threat from al Nusra, they surrendered six trucks and ammunition to a suspected al Nusra Front intermediary to secure safe passage after being told that unless he surrendered some of his NSF equipment, his unit would be ambushed en route to their new location,” according to Col. Patrick Ryder, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command, who provided the Washington Free Beacon on Monday with a timeline of what took place.
“We will look at what we can do to prevent such a situation in the future, but given the complexity of the battlefield it is not possible to eliminate all risk,” Ryder added. “We are using all means at our disposal to look into what exactly happened and determine the appropriate response.”
The arms exchange occurred after a group of around 70 NSF graduates crossed into Syria on the morning of Sept. 20, according to the Pentagon.
So, they had to give up their guns and vehicles as a toll? As some kind of jizya? Tribute? Oh fuck this, I give up. This is just Fast & Furious on a different playing field. Get out, bomb the ever loving shit out of the place, and go home.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
- Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
- Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
