Constitutional Showdown

I believe it is now time to throw every Democrat in Congress and the Senate in jail and let them rot. Or better yet, public hangings on the grass in front of the Capitol. This has gone just about far enough and I sincerely hope that the people out there reading this who voted for any of these treasonous, criminal ratbags are happy with the results.

Congress does not have the authority to wage war or manage the military. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that Congress shall have a hand in commanding the military, laying out strategies, assigning commanders or positioning troops in times of war. Nowhere!

By what authority do Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and their mindless minions in Congress (a) withhold funds for the military to fight a war they voted to authorize, (b) set conditions for that funding that over-rides the President’s role as Commander-In-Chief?

Now most of us have read the Constitution and we all know the assigned roles of the components of our government. Congress legislates, the President executes and the Supreme Court adjudicates. Period.

We also understand the checks and balances in that wonderful document that keep our government from getting out of control. So why are we allowing deranged politicians in one party to illegally attempt to exercise power they do not have?

This is headed for a Constitutional showdown and Reid, Pelosi, et al. are going to be disappointed in the end. Their actions are treasonous and highly illegal. If it gets to the Supreme Court the justices will have no choice but to interpret the Constitution as written.

In the meantime, the military will suffer the consequences of this dastardly act by Congress. The Army is already robbing other services to maintain troops in the field. Troops who are fighting and dieing every day to defend this great country of ours.

Who is going to explain to them why these partisan power-grabs in Washington are causing them to run out of food, ammunition, clothing, etc.? More importantly, how do we punish the politicians who are illegally attempting to violate the main provisions of our Constitution?

Congress: “We’ll give you the money for the war only if you let us manage the war.”

President: “No way.”

Congress: “Way.”

President: “FOAD.”

Military: “Help! Will fight for food!”

Air Force Might Cut Pay for Surge
(Military.com) - April 25, 2007

imageimageThe Air Force’s top officer said Wednesday that if nearly $1 billion in personnel funds taken from the service to pay for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan isn’t restored by the end of the summer, Airmen and civilian employees might not get their pay.

Due to a congressional delay in approving a wartime supplemental funding bill this year, the Pentagon pulled about $880 million from the Air Force’s personnel accounts to make up for a shortfall it warned lawmakers would come in mid-April.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Michael “Buzz” Moseley said at a breakfast meeting with reporters today that the money is coming out of the military personnel account earmarked for the last four months of the year.

“Somebody’s going to have to pay us back,” Moseley said. “You have to pay people every day when they come to work.A: it’s the right thing to do, and B: it’s kind of the law.” The shortfall could delay permanent change of station moves, temporary duty expenses and other pays that “take care of people,” he said.

On April 15, the Army announced it would have to cut training, depot repair, and maintenance of non war-related gear because funding for the surge in Iraq, combat operations in Afghanistan and other Global War on Terrorism costs was running dry. The Army also requested that about $1.6 billion be diverted from the Air Force and Navy personnel accounts to help put the wartime funding tab in the black.

With Congress locked in a political battle with the Bush administration over withdrawal deadlines and troop rotation schedules, the $100 billion wartime spending bill to pay for operations through the end of the fiscal year has yet to be signed into law.

Though both the Senate and House have submitted the supplemental bill to the floor for a vote this week, President Bush has vowed a veto over withdrawal deadlines inserted into the law. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace has said if the wartime funds aren’t in place by mid-May, even more drastic cuts will have to be made, including reductions in training for forces on their way to Iraq, which will force the Pentagon to extend the deployments of units already there.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
