  1. Hmm, a lesson to be learned, perhaps?

I had some business with my 401(k) and couldn’t believe it when I got transferred to one of those outfits. I didn’t understand what he was telling me, I just had to repeat what I wanted until I got what seemed to be an affirmative reply.

  2. This is troubling. Why was the cable broken? How was the cable broken?

  3. One thinks of 1914, when upon the outbreak of World War I, the British immediately dredged up and cut the German transatlantic cables.

Methinks Steel is on to something here.  And how shallow is the seabed 21 miles south of Karachi?  Within reach of deep-sea divers, perhaps?

    wink

  4. I’ll stick with Occam’s Razor. Probably some trawler snagged the cable.

  5. Take that you Indian programmers!

  6. Man, just think of all the pissed-off people around the world today who need help with their computers.  I had to get help about a month ago and was hooked up to Jared in India.  Nice guy.  Every word we spoke had to be spelled out using other words.  For instance, if I said ‘message’, Jared would ask that I use an ‘m’ word, an ‘e’ word, an ‘s’ word...etc., to make sure he had it right.  They are VERY thorough in making sure everything is correct.  I always have this sick, perverted urge to use dirty words when I have to ‘word’ spell like that.  I do not have a clue why that is, but it strikes me as very funny.

Anyway, “Press 4 if you are wishing to leave a message.” ha ha ha....  TOO funny.

    MESSAGE:
    Muthref*cker
    Eat me
    Shit
    Suck
    Ass
    Gonad
    Ejaculate

  11. ROFLMAO.  LOL  LOL  LOL

I contracted for Reliance back in 2002. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch. Snagged on a dragging anchor, I’d say. There’s a lot of flag-of-convenience shipping round there in that part of the sea.

  12. DWMF ...

I understand the incident took place 21 miles offshore.

There’s not a ship in the world that carries more than 500’ of anchor chain.

There ARE however many subs that can tap into undersea cables.

We do that better than any right now, but the Chinese have built quite a few new subs
    lately.

    Maybe they were testing.

The Indians and the Pakistanis both have subs as well.

The other possibilty is a seismic rift. The event that caused the Asian tsunami
resulted in a rift of 4-8 feet and is estimated to be between 30 and 70 miles long.

The sheer weight of a cable on the ocean floor with that stress and the fact that
those cables are not built for tensile strength beyond that neccessary to lay them,
might also give credence to this choice.

The only other choice would be an undersea landslide. A common occurence.
