  1. If it actually lifted him off his feet, he didn’t just “ignite the gas fumes”, he somehow managed to blow the can itself, he had to have. I’ve been “blown up” by spray paint cans put into a garbage fire (thanks, ex sister in law!), and I can’t help feeling like that’s the only way you’d get that much of a compression wave. Let’s just say that from 4-5 feet away, a spray paint can exploding won’t really move you any, it’ll just make you want to move yourself.

The other choice is that he thinks he was blown off his feet, but in actual fact he was startled off of them.

Been there, done that. Suffered the “severe burns.” Not how I’d choose to spend a weekend, I’ll grant you.

    shock

  2. Hey Grumpy ... good to see you here.

I did wonder about that to be honest. I suppose if there was enough gas in that can it would ignite alright. But wow, what ever made him think he had to empty the can. And the room must have been very small. Don’t ya think?  As for blowing a loft door off the hinge, don’t know. Must have been one heck of a blast.

  3. I still remember a certain drum-brake changing operation when I was in my very early 20’s and still did that sort of thing regularly.

I was beset by a large cloud of blackflies intent upon making me their dinner.  Twice I waved at the cloud madly (which only seemed to encourage them that their target meal was alive and healthy), and then wisely retreated from the area of the brake job until the cloud realized dinner had vamoosed, and moved off in search of antoher meal.

The third time the cloud found me and pounced I responded with a can of WD-40 and a lit zippo, yelling “It’s Ragnarok you little bastards!!” as I toasted the entire cloud.

They made a very satisfying “Whoosh.”
