I agree with you Skipper, this clown deserves to play hide the salami with Mr Big in the Federal Pen. I also agree that some (most?) of the Micro$oft programs are a big rip off so I am slowly and somewhat painfully migrating to Linux. If MS offered their software at more reasonable prices I think less people would buy pirate versions. As for living in the US and carrying on this business, well pretty stupid I agree but given the choice would you want to live in Russia?
I have read an article that Vista will be the last of it’s type and in future MS will sell licenses via the chip. I currently use VMware server running from Linux with a guest install of windows 2000. Works really well and VMware give t away free.....there must be a catch somewhere but so far I haven’t discovered it!
lyndon you just sumed it up, so you never downloaded something dodgy? over priced ms are a rip off?, bollocks , just play the game.
Hey, I recently changed a CD-ROM to a DVD R/W and usoft’s software decides that warrented enough of a change in the hardware to force me to deal with their BS to get my software ‘authorized’ again. I use FireFox and OpenOffice at home. Both are great for what I do. My wife runs a legitimate copy of Office 2000. You ask what OS I will go with during the next round of hardware updates? It will most likely be Linux. I run AMD cpus because I dislike Intel. The last Intel chip I ever used was a 486. Once the 486 clones hit the streets, out went Intel and in went either AMD or Cyrix. Hell, I dropped MSDOS and went with DRDOS because it was a better OS with many features better than those offered by usoft. As to downloading software-forget about the warez and hacks unless you like cleaning crap off of your PC. Go to dailyrotation.com and see what links they have if you’re interested in good freeware/shareware.
I agree that software is often overpriced. MS makes its living off off corporations that buy in bulk I think. I like Office, but the price-tag will probably prevent my buying future versions. If you buy one version and then upgrad twice or three times, you’ve spent near $1000. Bogus.
However, like music, pirated software is not smart, no guarantees it will be clean or work properly. I don’t even use pirated music. I find paying 99 cents is fair (using iTunes).
Choose between pirates or thieves (Micro$oft)? Not much of a choice. I am curious about switching to Linux, but am concerned about compatibility/performance issues for high-end apps. Any pointers/useful tidbits you guys can share?
